Really this is a software type question?
I suspect there is a wee object in the GPS that says the next default waypoint is X. From a computing point of view there is no easy way of saying " Hey my WP 001 has been deleted/renamed lets go and use that again".

"very soon children", the whole country was going to switch over to metric.
I was there to and still waiting...
My late Father was an engineer in a company who produced goods metric width and imperial lenght! Now work that one out? I'm told you buy curtains in the same way.

but what units do you dream in?........
nanoseconds and yoctoseconds

What is wrong with the good old... Rod/Perch/Chain method of measuring
I can't find the page on my GPS for them

Sorry Paul my daughters birthday so we will be up to our eyes in ice cream and jelly (she is 4)

For travel in the car Miles but once on foot it has to be metric! An OS grid square is a km!

I'm on the South Coast of England and #39 has popped up today does anybody know where this bird is flying?
Good to see #33 back up and running I was missing the old bird.

How accurate is your navigation without a GPS? I've been a map and compass mountaineer for about 30 years and would say that I was as good as it gets but could never say I was as good as + or - 3m or 10 foot all the time I was on the mountain. At waypoint yes, between waypoints I was at waypoint X on a bearing of Z for Y mins - and often working from rock to rock or clump of grass to clump of grass - hitting the next waypoint was always good news.
All high tech products have there problems! Think of it! You are getting a VERY faint signal from a transmitter 32,000 miles above the planet surface (I hope that is the correct height) hitting an unit smaller than your hand. Have you looked at the mathematics involved?
-
Yeah, I'm definitely trying to roll my own maps. Just need to find some really good topo data. I also was looking for a good site with maps people made, haven't found one yet.
Take a look at the Scottish Mountaineering Club Website there is some pretty cool info there about "rolling your own".

I better get my bug out there - It's first challange is the 3 Peaks!

Though I'm not crazy about the "by October" software update, I do realize that in the world of electronics, computers and sofware, problems sometime take a little more time to fix. Garmin will get it right, I am certain. That's why I keep coming back to Garmin.
Working in IT I'd say that "by October" is a very good fix time. This is what they need to do
a) Understand the problem
Design a fix
c) Write the fix
d) Test the fix
e) Return to point a until they have it right
f) Beta test the fix
g) Release the fix

Thanks for that....
I'll now have a fun time posting stuff up to me web space

Thanks GPSlug - I wondered why my D's were missing and the accuracy was going up and down like a YoYo
-
So do I upload them to another server add a link and it displays the pic?
-
Hi
On the first screen take the radio button marked "Get Image from the GPS" click next
Then select the "Screen shot" option from the menu and Bingo.
The help button is on the bottom right of the application. (If I could work out how to upload screen shots here I would have done so)

For the 60CSx, CLICK HERE.
So I just splat the old version back on over the beta software I am currently running?
-
Now I've had my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx and the TOPO mapping software for two weeks and been able to give both the device and the software a good testing.
I'll split out this review to navigation by car, walking/mountaineering use and other notes.
By car
You need to load up the maps for the area that you wish to drive in from the PC. The base map is OK for motorways and major trunk roads, A class, but has no knowledge of minor, B & C class roads.
Once the detailed maps are loaded it works well. From the area that I have used it all of the roads are included and the navigation aids beeps and pop up prompts. It has suggested some "interesting routes" from a to b, ones that I would have never thought of but looking at the map quite correct in its route selection.
Walking/mountaineering
The mapping software holds all the roads, rivers, lakes/lochs, contour lines and some paths. It is NOT an Ordnance Survey map on screen and as such I would consider it as a backup to a paper map as it does miss important navigational features like field boundaries, churches, springs and changes in vegitation. I am often working my way around bogs and for some reason my local pub is missing!
The mapping software on the PC is pretty good, but not as good as the "Ordnance Survey" look and feel that MemoryMap provide but perfectly adequate for working out routes etc from the comfort of the kitchen table and downloading them into the unit.
I've found that when using it in on the hill I've not been timing or pacing the distance between "Waypoints" as the GPS was doing that for me it does reduce the workload a little, although I've yet to use it at night with the visibility at 3 meters.
Other Notes
The UK postcode has not been correctly set up. PH33 1 is about as close as it will get to a full postcode! I suspect that the data fields have not been "ported" correctly from the US version of the software. A full postcode search facility would be great - still you can get pretty close.
I would love the facility to edit the Point of Interest file as some of the entries are way out of date. Our local petrol (gas) station closed years ago but it is still marked, oh yes and they have not marked the pub!
All in all for the enthusiastic walker/mountaineer TOPO is a much needed add on to the GPS as it really brings it to life. But will add the caveat that you really do need to be a good navigator to fully understand how to use this amazing bit of kit.

I stepped back to 2.60
How did you do that?

Hi All
I've been playing with the POI download application and if you download ANY new POI files then all the old Waypoints that became a POI then dissapear. The good news is that the problem is fixed but I do think it is a tiny bug!
-
Working in the world of IT I would not consider a month long enough for a beta version. Three months would be the min I would consider.
-
I'm using a Nuvi 350 which also supports custom POIs and the only way (previous to the lastest software version at least) to delete user-loaded custom POIs was to load in an empty POI list (or with one POI set to somewhere that you'd never encounter it, like in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean). You may want to give it a try on your 60CSx.
Hi SergZak
I agree that this works for POI that have been loaded but when I list the POI that were waypoints there is no "Database" to remove them by so I can not load an empty POI file, or so it would appear

Hi All
I am currently running the GPSmap 60CSx on their Beta 2.62 which is working well. I decided to do a hard reset, switching the unit on with ENTR and PAGE pressed, and was surprised to find that all my waypoints had been moved to the Custom POI listing. Now working as I do as an IT systems engineer when I do a "hard reset" on a bit of kit, e.g. a router, it deletes all of the user data and goes back to that "just out of the factory" look.
Anybody had the same thing happen? Are there any other key sequences I could use as I would really like to clear down my Custom POI?

No - just solid navigation skills with a map, compass and watch
