TRUE STORY I recently bought a bicycle to get some more excercise during Caching. After a find one day I turned off the GPSr and went out scouting the local areas trails looking for a place to hide my first cache. I went up and down some pretty rough hills but fianally found some possibe hiding places. After making a mental note I headed back down. About half way down I noticed the sun reflecting from the ground about 35 feet in front of me. As I got closer I kept thinking, "Man, that sure looks like a MeriGold." I was right. I picked it up and then instantly realized, IT WAS MINE. I had it attached to my bike with a generic cell phone mount and it had been jostled out. While climbing up the hills, in my out of shape hyperventilations, I didn't notice it fall out. Thank goodness I went back the way I came. Suffice it to say, I have ordered a proper GPSr Ram mount and will pay closer attention to my GPSr, even after a find. Embarassing, but true.

I'm in SoCal but I have been watching this game develop and have been waiting w/ baited breath to see how it went and what it was all about. It's 11:30 pacific time and only one logged visit and one message...I guess everyone is still out having fun...I can't wait to hear about this. The promos and hype were so intense...maybe I should plan my next vacation around The Game II.

I would definitely like to get together at an OC meeting. I was too new to the RASH when the Root Beer Social happened but I am eager to meet other local Cachers.

Jeremy..Where did the bucket hats go? My wife was going to buy me one for my birthday next week, but when she went on there were only baseball caps. Can I still get one? Thanks.

Kind of mysterious, kind of to the point. -

Use a Laptop or A PDA along with a GPSr.

I would like to start using my PDA as a tool on cache hunts. I have read mentions of cut/paste info into palm. What is the best/fastest way to get info from the web page, or even the web page itself into my PDA? Thanks in advance. -

I recently bought a power inverter and my family and I went from Southern Cal. to just past Bakersfield for the 4th of July weekend using Mapsend Topo and MS streets and Trips (only for driving directions ). I planned a few "treasure hunts" in the area and in the Sequoia Natl. Forest. This was my wife's first experience at sharing a seat with the Laptop . It fits between our seats but it won't open enough for me to really see it well enough . She was having fun (sort of) as Navigator. I'll probably let her drive tomorrow . The kids enjoyed watching us "move" up the computer screen. I also have a PDA and plan to begin using it to save the cache info. (I need a couple more hands - I've got to get the family more into this) -

Thanks for the advice. After reading ther posts I have decided to return the sporttrak and get the mer. gold. I could only affort the 64 mb card but I think that oughta do me (for now anyway). Thanks for you input. Jeff

Thanks Wyatt. I went ahead and returned my SportTrak and ordered the Meridian Gold. For only about 50.00 diff. I might as well have the option of more memory space. Heck, I could always just buy several disks, and upload various maps to each and keep them handy. Thanks again. Jeff

I was thinking of downloadin the Sequoia Natl. Forest. I doubt there are many streets, but probably a lot of other info. Just curious as to what 4 mb gets me. A question, using Topo, is it possible to cut secctions from a larger map, i.e. maybe cut out the freeway section only from LA to San Francisco, thereby eliminating unused memory eating data? Just wonderin'. Thanks for any info in advance.

What is the typical memory usage size for uploading maps. My SportTrak map comes w/ 4mb internal and no card slots available. How much map can actually go into 4mb space. Should I have gotten a meridian with card available? TIA GeoBoltz

I hope it helps you. After all I have been reading around the web, I am glad that Topo will only end up costing me 20.oo (I don't mind paying full price for the SportTrak Map - it's been dead on the money). Good hunting. GeoBoltz

It was a link on Amazon.com. If you bought a GPSr and Mapsend software together there was a 50.00 rebate link. Go here to print it. http://www.magellangps.com/assets/promotions/50rebatecoupon.pdf

Unfortunately I only make it down to the San Diego area once or twice during football season. I live in Orange County but I appreciate the offer. I went ahead and ordered the Topo version since I found out there is a $50.00 rebate good until July 7th I figured that 20.00 for it wouldn't be bad if I don't like it. Do you use Topo alot, or is it more of a pain than it's worth. I am having a hard time deciding if I want to hook the laptop up to the truck or just do it at home and pluck in a few maps and go. I can't wait to get my first cache. I am going hunting tomorrow for it. Wish me luck.
