  4. I went to look for an adjusted BM a few days ago and it had a house, probably the living room, sitting right where it used to be and a new subdivision built where the reference marks were supposed to be. And, here, by the description, I was wondering how I was going to talk the farmer into letting me nose around his barnyard. Also, I have run into at least a dozen lately where the railroad bridge has been repaired right over the marks.
  5. I have a TB that was put into a TB hotel at the Orlando Airport and the next day it was listed as missing. I didn't realize just anyone could list a TB as missing. How does that work and why is it possible?
  6. OK, here's my first attempted hand. I'm hoping this straight flush, sadly with no bonuses, qualifies for at least 40 points. None of these are considered old by contest standards but none have been logged into the GC.com database as found either. LC0256 V 200 LC0257 W 200 LC0258 X 200 LC0264 Y 200 RESET 1961 LC0266 Z 200
  7. My question is how did he change the elevation by 20 feet by moving the GPSR a few inches horizontally.
  8. I still feel like I'm just a beginner myself, but it seems to me you did very well on that log, Lane Vines. Keep it up.
  9. I know you don't want to have too much more time tied up in this. But, is there a way those of us who are still a little fuzzy on the exact rules could see if posted hands are accepted without you having to go to to much trouble? I sure understand if it's too time consuming but it'd be helpful if you could. Thanks again for the contest.
  10. I have a TB in Florida that has been all over the country including Alaska and the person in Florida has had it for over 6 weeks. I've emailed them, I thought nicely, and reminded them that the goal of the TB was to get to southern Georgia and he said he'd get it out, about 3 weeks ago. Have another out in the west that has been held for weeks. Any 'printable" suggestions will be appreciated.
  11. Don't know if I made it clear that I'm in. Maybe I'll win the prize for the lowest scrore....
  12. I've run across a several just like that. Of course, one in West Virginia, I never did find a listing for in either of the two databases we use... The've been doing even better than that lately. I recovered a mark yesterday (haven't posted a log yet) but a tri station, 2 reference marks and the az mark were all between a state highway and a rail line. The marks were identified prior to a passing lane being added to the highway. They put three wooden stakes in a triangle around the marks and zig-zagged pink tape all over them. Some of the easiest finds I've made recently. Also saw a couple more like this for other highway projects.
  13. Thanks. You know, I knew that's where they were because when I was a "kid", about college age anyway, I walked by that place many times. It had just slipped through my feeble mind. Thanks. again. I'll email him and see what he can tell me.
  14. That's the one and since there were conflicting logs on GC.com and even though the Survey database said it has been removed I looked anyway since I was in the area and because I've found a few that were listed as DNF or Destroyed. The officers looked pretty legit. Packing major, cars, laptop pc, radio and gear just like "real" ones. Probably just a slow - or a high alert - day. OH, and the guy I asked about it was standing not 50 feet from where the adjusted cords put the stack. And, I agree with you after seeing the area that the logger on the GC.com database was probably logging the new power plant and stack which was down the street.
  15. Think that police force at the Illinois capital were pretty legit. Of course there is obviously some activity going on out there that is dangerous to the public and the police have the job of not overlooking a dangerous situation. (If I remember correctly there was a guy shot there a while back who entered the capital building with a handgun and didn't stop when told.) They weren't harassing at all and I don't see any sense refusing to show a license if they request it since I was doing nothing wrong. Another reason I figured they were legit was that they "ran" my license on their computer and apparently I had no APBs or warrants (always nice to know.) The disappointing thing of it was neither of the two officers nor the parking lot attendant were from in town and neither of the three could tell me where the smokestack attached to the capital power plant was. The cords given in the database were way off as it turns out and the GPSr was showing it to next to the parking lot where I inquired.
  16. I was looking for a intersection benchmark at the Illinois State Capital, a smokestack, last winter and asked a parking lot attendant where the stack might be. Five minutes later as I got in my car two police cruisers from the Illinois Secretary of State Police Force, didn't even know he had a police force, stopped me, looked over my GPS, checked my driver's license, and after I showed them the GC.com printout on the benchmark I think they looked up the geocaching web page and chatted among themselves a couple minutes before giving my stuff back to me and saying I had scared the parking lot attendant and he'd reported me.
  17. Yes, a Happy Birthday and another thanks for the contests. And, as you say,Happy Hunting, when it cools off anyways.
  18. Does anyone know of Army Corp of Engineers BMs in West Virginia. This one I'm trying to find is within a few miles of Cass, WV, and at or near zip 24927. It's kind of hard to tell where zips end in the country. It's along a former railroad now called the Greenbrier River Trail in Pocahontas County, WV. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the pic was out of focus until I returned from the trip. I can't find anything in GC.com database or the Geodesic one either about Corp marks in that area. Will appreciate any suggestions. I also don't know how to include a link to it on here if it isn't already on the web.
  19. It's pretty complicated for this slow, old, brain. And, I'll have to travel close to 100 miles to have lines I haven't already gotten some of for straights, etc. I doubt I'll get many for this one. But, maybe I can find a hand or two and enough to get in the pot for the book.
  20. That book is fantastic. No way will I win the first place but I MAY win the drawing.
  21. OK, thanks. Now, I'm going to go to bed and sleep on it and decide if I want to drive myself crazy for another two months. That drive is getting shorter and shorter...... Thanks again for helping me along on that drive....
  22. Good, that's more liberal than the last contest. Will you not accept those new style ones that are tubes buried in the ground with the rod sticking up the middle and the number on the rim?
  23. Guess you're probably right on the ERR bonus. Another question. IF I logged a DNF in the last contest (less than a year, of course) and find it now, I can still use it as a "regular" find, is that correct?
  24. After reading a couple times it seems way too complicated for my simple mind. But, a couple of questions to begin with. 1. Did I miss it or do you do the hands only in order? 2. Have you considered a bonus for ERR, as in last time, or is that just too complicated? I'm really horrible at poker and not all that good at benchmarking. Anyone have a "Benchmark Poker for Dummies" manual?
