  1. Hello everyone. When on a cache hunt, how long will you look before giving up? I ask because I have taken up to an hour and a half and feel this might be too long. I also seem to stumble into it right after I give up the search. anybody else? Joe
  2. if you are doing little road navigation, the topo will work great. It still has alot of the roads even if they don't show the names. It has every road in my little town. Joe
  3. If this was when you first started walking, it is normal. It takes a few seconds for the unit to realize what way you are moving. When you powered it up it thought you were pointing at the cache but when it realized the truth it quickly changed. If it was under very heavy tree cover, this can happen too. If it was none of the above there may be somthing wrong. I'd say give it some time. It could be nothing. GOOD LUCK Joe
  4. I was on the AT&T site a bit ago, have you seen the new phones? All GSM and they have one with a color screen. One had GSM and TDMA. That does not seem like they are two years behind. Looks alot like the sprint ones out now. I don't know about you but they do look tempting.
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. I think i'll pick some up next chance I get. Joe
  6. Hi everyone. I was looking REALLY close at my Legend's screen and I can see some tiny scratches. I know that is normal and I am too anal. But what would you quys thing about those screen sticky things for pda's? I know I could get a case but I don't feel like it. It's all yours! Brian
  7. I did download the new software. I don't use the calculator but the battery option is good to have. Beside that it's the same to me. Or does the compass pointer look smaller?

  9. Listen. I've been yelled at because of this before but here it is again. I like AT&T. It has very good coverage around here. The nokia I have works great, and the customer service has been more than I could want. I have used sprint, and yes the calls are clear, and cdma means no "hard handoffs". However I never had a good signal, and it was useless indoors. and no I don't work for AT&T. It's up to you as it is a very personal thing, but I like mine. (also as a footnote, I was nabbing some caches in the mills, and had four bars of stregnth down in a valley, a big valley. If I had gotten hurt I could still have a line to help. That makes me feel good about caching in remote places) Joe
  10. I use a nokia 8260 with AT&T service and I have to say I love it. I hear people. say bad things about the coverage or customer service but personally I think they are the best out there. I've had sprint, verizon, cingular, and voice stream. and AT&T has taken care of me with everything i've needed. I also have never lost a signal out caching. Right now I have a Nokia 8260. It is very small and light, but I do want to replace it with the new 8265 (really cool looking). Hope that helps Good Luck with your quest!
  11. Hi everyone. In about a month I will be heading to Alaska!! it's a two week trip and I am very excited. However I will be on a week long hiking trip in Denali and I would feel alot better about the trip if I had the Topo software for my legend (Never been out of the lower 48). So far the lowest I've seen it eas $90, a good price but still a little high with all the bills I have now (tickets, rental car, permits, food, lodging ext...) and just wondering if anyone out there could part with it for a little less. A reply soon would be helpful as I will be packing shortly. THANKS EVERYONE!!!! Brian Abate121@hotmail.com
  12. Would you seek out a cache in an area with elevation changes too severe for kids, but not hard enough to warrant climbing gear? (steep, and you may get hurt if you are not careful) Also, to get to the cache you must walk past some unsightly trash, too large to move (washer, fridge)? I am asking if this would take away from the natural experience too much? thanks for any help! Brian
