  1. I enjoy working towards challenges and I enjoy creating challenges for others to work towards. These challenges are brilliant. I have found that working towards challenges have diversified my caching experiences. It has encouraged me to target a range of caches that I may never have really explored and in turn I have had the benefit of exposure to many places and opportunities that I may have missed. Surely this is what geocaching is all about? I applaud you BFMC on your quest to give us greater caching opportunities and experiences. And, for those that are not interested in challenges and the like, they can continue to cache in the way that suits them...something for everyone!
  2. Our local caching community make an effort to hold CITO events. We usually aim to have a local CITO in the two CITO souvenir weeks each year. In addition we also team up with local Landcare Groups for tree planting and weeding. We have held graffiti cleans. We have found that cachers will come from far and wide if there is a souvenir attached. They are less inclined for non souvenir opportunities, it is usually the hard core CITOers that attend these. As a suggestion, perhaps there could be a CITO week each month with a souvenir attached. This would give 12 CITO souvenirs per year. It could mean that there was a designated 7 day period each month to hold a CITO and while there would be a reward of a souvenir for attendance, the real winner is the environment that we will have improved with great collaboration. It will hold CITO events in high regard for the positive influence they are.
  3. That was another point I forgot to mention in my previous post. If I wanted to do a search for events near me, I'd just go to the website and do that search. Like niraD said, the advantage of the previous version of the newsletter was having that list provided to you without any further action required. I expect attendance may drop a bit for some upcoming events due to the loss of this notification method. I agree 100%. The new format does not give a quick snapshot at all.
  4. I agree 100% with your comments. I hope GS will reconsider the format and just 'pretty up' the old format if necessary. The old format gave me a snapshot of what was new and relevant that I could quickly scroll through. I hardly bother with the new format and as a result, I am missing events, newer listings etc.
  5. Is there a way that a pop up can be included on geocaching apps when logging to ask 'did you see a trackable' or 'did you drop a trackable'? Far too many trackables are lost with the main reason (in my opinion) is lack of education especially with newbies. If there was a pop up, awareness would be greater and it is much more likely that this component of the game could be enhanced in a positive way.
  6. Yes, I agree, that would be fantastic. It would enable ducks to travel more widely and hopefully help to explain TB's to newbies who seem to have a bit of trouble getting used to them.
  7. Is there a live map anywhere to show where the Deadly Ducks are at any point in time? This would help enormously in assisting them to travel as we could identify where they are and specifically target their retrieval to move them on.
  8. I understand the exact starting time of the race, however what will happen if a race participant TB is dropped in a cache (or event) earlier the same day? For example, in Australia, a participating TB is dropped into a cache at 12 noon (GMT+10) on 20 July 2016, this is officially approximately 5 hours before the designated start time.
  9. If I put a search area in to search (for instance the State of Victoria in Australia), there are about 15,000 caches and they are listed. If I want to filter that search to show only caches of a particular D/t or only caches with corrected co-ordinates, when I click the filter button, it goes green and nothing happens. This has been happening for quite some time. It still happens if I reduce the search area to a smaller area. HELP.
  10. Actually, any device that's connecting to the Groundspeak infrastructure to do anything, whether that's viewing the website, accessing caches through an app, or sending messages, will have an IP address that Groundspeak can record. You can't be on the internet without one. I fully realise you can't be on the internet without an IP address however for example you are using the wifi at the local McDonalds or the local library, then the IP address reflects this. You are not able to be identified. In the same way that if you are accessing premium caches using the app, your user name will not appear in the audit log for the CO. Here poses another problem.
  11. Hi again The A-Team, YES, this has been reported to the authorities but it gets back to the same old thing, no valid e-mail means no IP address and means very difficult to trace. In our opinion, if the perpetrators have another hoop to jump through (eg validating an e-mail address) BEFORE they can continue to crank up another inappropriate user name to log a few more (up to 20 at a time) disgusting filthy logs without visiting caches OR access the app to find some more caches to trash and steal, then they might get sick of it real quick. YES, this particular issue is a local one that does not affect you BUT the remedy we are requesting and lobbying for will assist geocachers globally in many more ways than just resolving our problem. This is our point and why we are asking for global assistance. We would not want this type of thing to happen ANYWHERE around the world as it has been extremely unpleasant.
  12. Hi The A-Team, I will respond here to your question but I would also welcome your direct contact to clarify anything you are questioning. YES, the description is accurate, otherwise I would not have published it. Yes, this is a problem with possibly a small group of people within the local community (who, as far as we can identify are not well known within the local geocaching community) who obviously think this type of vandalism is a fun past time. And, no this isn't a problem with a spammer creating logs all over the world BUT it raises a specific issue that will affect ALL legitimate cachers around the world. This is why we are highlighting it to enable more traction with GS. Within any group I belong to, I try really hard to consider ALL implications of any action suggested for the good of the wider group, not just what affects me directly. There was no pattern with the vandalism or inappropriate logs so the targets were not CO specific, we feel it was unlikely a personal vendetta.
  13. Likely a small group of young adults who consistently vandalised and stole more than 80 caches (one fifth of the available caches in the area) over a 2 month period in conjunction with over 300 very, very inappropriate logs received by many, many (more than 20) inappropriate user names being created as quickly as they were being locked by GS. If they are being created in the app using a public wifi, the IP address is next to useless.
  14. Is not particularly helpful when you receive dozens and dozens of these logs. A report user button would make it alot more efficient than micro managing each log one by one. Its a big data world and a big data solution is needed. Well said Fergzter.
  15. I agree with this 100% gmj3191. Validation is imperative and while it won't necessarily stop all of the issues, it should stop 95% of them by giving just one more hoop to jump through.
  16. Thank you but we have purchased a GPS.
  17. Hi,thanks, what price is it? What condition is it in?
  18. Hi, is it the Magellan that is still available? How much is it? Thanks.
  19. We would happily release in either Ballarat, Victoria, Australia or Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
