  1. We now have 20-25 new caches in Thomson, including a night cache. Some are being published now, others will be held until Friday and Saturday.....we have several temporary locations as well and will be using those for a poker run on Saturday late afternoon... Join us if you can! We'll miss you, JAMRASC, but will see you soon!
  2. We are doing GA and SC..... Georgia is already hidden, but is a little too close to another cache recently hidden (that hasn't been published pending our big event next weekend)..... Look for the GA County Challenge to be published Monday or so..... And SC in the very near future!!!!
  3. The CSRA Geocachers and the McDuffie County Tourism Board are having a weekend of events April 18th-20th. There will be a kickoff party on Friday night, with a CITO, informational sessions, a geocoin swap and geocoin poker tournament on Saturday, and a "morning-after" breakfast on Sunday! Lots of great doorprizes are being assembled and as many as 20 new caches will pop up around the county between now and then!! Come join us if you can!! GC18Y00
  4. I have to agree with Geoholic. If it is a state organization, events should be held statewide. We lived in SC, but have helped form the CSRA Geocachers group and folks in our group want to be included in GGA happenings. If it is truly the statewide group, why not accomodate every region's request? In SC, there are 7 regions and each region has a SC member. Once or twice a year, each region is responsible for holding the state meeting. Not everyone has to come to every single meeting, no one is asking for that or for someone from Atlanta to host a meeting in Augusta. We have very capable people who could host it. All we are asking for is some recognition from our state group and to be able to hold meetings under the GGA umbrella, so that our members can also become state members without having to drive 3 hours to a meeting. Of course, we will drive 3 hours for some meetings, don't get me wrong. However, we shouldn't ALWAYS have to drive 3 hours to attend a GGA meeting. I live in Aiken, work in Augusta, and am originally from Thomson, so Georgia is very important to me. We are planning an event in conjunction with McDuffie County in the spring and hope to have a lot of folks from other regions of the state. It's too bad we can't also hold a GGA meeting so the membership can grow.
  5. Rhonda and I saw an interesting news report tonight about a Tybee Island geocache that was blown up Saturday when it was suspected to be a bomb. This news report was out of Savannah. Here's the link: http://wtoctv.com/Global/story.asp?s=6649001 It seems to fit that the geocache was (GCNEE9) Under the Sea II by Team Teuton and it has just been archived. Just wanted to share... Salutations- Amy
  6. Thanks so much for taking care of it. I really appreciate it. It will keep the powers-that-be happy.
  7. T of TandS is absolutely correct. As the person in charge of permissions for the above publication, I would formally request that you remove the text from the posting. We allow links to our stories, but we do not allow copying and pasting of text in its entirety. I understand most folks don't understand the ramifications of posting copyrighted material, or even what the big deal is, so here it is in a nutshell: Reporters write stories for newspapers. Newspapers own the story. We rarely make money directly from the story but we have to pay the reporters, photographers, editors, buy newsprint, pay carriers to deliver the newspaper, etc. We make money by gettting folks to our web site and newspaper stands to read our material. If someone is posting our information, there is no need to come to our site or buy our paper. Thus, we cannot charge our advertisers a fair rate because we are not getting our fair share of hits on the site or purchases. Revenues suffer, the staff suffers, and on down the line. In addition, there is now a comments section appended to each story on our site, and we love for folks to comment about the stories. Bottom line: I spend a bunch of time every day asking folks to remove our content from sites such as this. Most readily comply because they are just usually confused by the copyright law. Some drag their feet, and some get taken to court. I love the newspaper and I love geocaching, and I want them to co-exist peacefully in my world. So, please remove the text and just leave the link. It only takes a moment to register and the story is worth it.
