After you attach your Tag to the Bug, I would suggest you go here and print out the Bug Sheet and put it all in a zip bag. http://www.xsnrg.com/geocachingwa/asp/travelbugsheet1a.asp The information from this page will give your bug a better chance of surviving it's trip. Have fun....
  2. quote:Originally posted by Sabaharr:I only wish I had found this before I put out my last bug yesterday. My wife still has 3 to let out and you can bet one of these sheets will be on each of them. If we find your TB we will print the sheet for you. That is what we have done in the past for the two bugs we found. This is a great idea for TBs and all of ours have the sheet with it.
  3. quote:Originally posted by TeamGauntlet:Everything is fine now. The problem was that the previous holder of the TB had only placed it in the cache the same morning that I found it, and I was attempting to enter my find before it had been logged as having been placed in the cache where I found it. That happens from time to time. Normally it works out.
  4. quote:Originally posted by ScurvyDog:I wanted to know "How others felt" Have you ever revisited a cache to pick up a TB, and do you feel it's Ok or Not? I feel it ok, but wouldn't want to upset other Cachers. Would it?? Not a problem in my opinion.
  5. quote: Does any else face problems like these? North Central Nebraska is not a cache paradise and we intend to hide additional caches after the first of the year. What is the fun in caching if you can just drive a few miles to find one. We are now into the 100 plus miles before we get started. Yeah, road trip....
  6. quote:Originally posted by hoovman: I certainly could be wrong - maybe this person flys there often to check on it - but it seems unlikely. Thoughts? Are you Carnac the Magnificent? How would you know the circumstances? And why would you worry about it? Just go cache and have fun playing the game, let Admin be the cops. Some time back, a person declared a cache to be unsafe. Come to find out this person had never visited the cache. This rush to judgement and declaration was bogus. Probably best to stay out of the policing business, huh?
  7. quote:Originally posted by DirtRunner:You know, it’s one thing if some kids are strolling past and accidentally stumble upon your cache and never knowing anything about the hobby plunder it. But for someone to be shown how the hobby works and what to do and then have him or her steal the cache the next day is absolutely disgraceful. I don’t care how stand up the kid was, sounds like an idiot to me. Geez Dirtrunner, tell us what your really think Seriously, I agree with everything you said. Their Teacher hot about this. He and his family found geocaching and really enjoy it. His enthusiasm for the sport was the reason he was teaching his class about the technology.
  8. quote:Originally posted by umc:But if you know who did it and what happened why archive it? The cache is compromised, every kid in middle school would know the location. No big deal, we will put others out.
  9. quote:Originally posted by umc:Well, glad to hear that the mystery has been solved. Too often (most of the time) it is not solved. So whats the plan of action now? Just archive the cache and go on.
  10. quote:Originally posted by umc:I bet 'Badgers' feel pretty bad about that. Have you contacted them to see if they knew anything? Spoke with the teacher and he found out it was one of his group with two others that weren't in the class. Kid was stand up, when the teacher brought it up he admitted it and apologized. Plus he returned the contents. This is too bad, we don't have enough caches in the area as it is. Oh well, that is the way this game works sometimes.
  11. We have got to have the record for the shortest time from the First Find to being plundered. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=42841 More often than not, this is the result when non cachers are shown a location. Just our opinion....

    Form letter

An email to the person is probably just as good as a form letter. I think after a month an inquiry about the bug is not out of line. We have three in the wild now, two moving and one probably stopped until spring. Our theory is to wait at least 6 weeks before asking about a bug, especially since we are going into the winter.
  18. How about asking before placing? In one of the posts, it indicated they did. Do you know this Ski3pin person?
  19. Jesus H. Christ. Did NOBODY else see the post by Disquoi in which ski3pin indicated that she was asked to remove the caches by her superiors? Aren't THEY the local authorities? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! Maybe most feel her comments are suspect. I get the impression that she might enjoy the power trip, otherwise why not pre notify the cache owner BEFORE she grabs it? What ever happened to manners? Just a thought....

Go to Hide & Seek a cache and scroll to the bottom of that page, enter the user name there.

    Coordinates

When I first noticed it was taking us to the wrong location, I did notice that the coords were different from the printout from the geosite. But I did enter the numbers twice that should have been correct and did not go to the correct location. When I loaded the LOC file into the GPS today, the number were the same as I manually entered and today it was the correct location. Guess the Garmin didn't like riding around South Dakota for a half a day. thanks for the post. quote:Dit you by any chance write down the coordinates that you got the first time and compare them with the ones you downloaded the last time? That might give us a clue as to what happened.

    Coordinates

quote:Perhaps you didn't set the GPS to hddd mm.mmm, but some other format, not used by the geocaching page? Thought of that, BUT the downloads worked on the other two caches all with the same datum. Go figure? Thanks for the reply
  23. We hit three caches on Saturday. I had downloaded the info into our Garmin Map76s and all was well for the first two. On the third cache, we were off by three miles. This was not a difficult find and I had a topo of the area, so we knew about where it was and found it without the GPS. I manually reentered the info from our printout of the cache and could not get it to reset to the correct location. Today I downloaded the .loc file into the GPS and did a goto on the location. This time it was correct. Any idea as to what went on here? Thanks….. Dick
