  1. Just out of curiousity, I checked one of the Virtual Poker Cards against Garmin's Topo Canada v2. It was card # 4, and it is shown just off a trail. And the trail, you could have traced back to a road for parking.
  2. GPS Central sells for $194.95 CAD .
  3. First I've heard of it.....
  4. To the Organizers & Sponsors of the Canadian Travel Bug race - a big thank you! Our poor little travel bug (by my reckoning) was in 2nd last place but we had fun following the other racers . The Canadian Torch will hopefully go on to have lots of other adventures. And we look forward to participating next year (and getting a little further in the race. 5. To The Wet Coast Explorers, Thank you for your assistance. Our travel bug spent 2 months of the race on ice with one geocacher -- not sure why but one other racer suffered similar fate with this geocacher. We had about given up on the Torch and are happy to see it back in circulation. St. Albert4 "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." 6. Sorry the URL should have read.... Rocky Mountain Barking Spider "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  7. I would recommend the http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=5016. It's a good hike (if you follow the complete circle) with spectacular viewpoints. I enjoyed sitting sitting on the ridge after finding the cache, taking in the sight of Jasper townsite & Jasper Park Lodge. I hope the weather holds and you have an enjoyable trip. 8. Unfortunately, our race travel bug is suffering the same dire consequences as pprefont (and in the same hands). Hopefully, he is monitoring the discussion group and will release both of them back into the wilds. "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  9. Rocky Mountain Barking Spider is just outside the Jasper Townsite on the Old Fort Point trail. The cache is hidden on a ridge that overlooks the townsite and Jasper Park Lodge. It is a wonderful place to just sit for a few minutes and watch the world go by. Chances are that you will see wildlife on the hike as well. Big horn sheep and a bald eagle is what I saw when I went early this spring. "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  10. The Canadian Torch is lifting off out of St Albert today, landing point Surrey in the next few days. "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  11. Screenshots would be great! Maybe 2 or 3 would be all that I would need: - Northwest corner of St Albert - Northwest Edmonton (far enough out to see hwy 16 and 16a) - Downtown Edmonton Area I'll send you my email address via the profile page. Have a good trip, StAlbert4 "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  12. PDOP's, Once you have your 2003 S&T, it will be interesting to get some feedback from you. I use the 2002 version for geocaching & other things. I have hesitated in upgrading based upon comments made about it being a step backwards for detail - it's bad enough as it is - wrong highway numbers in the Edmonton area. "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  13. Actually, it is a mixed bag. The railway may retain ownership - particularily in downtown urban areas to use for commercial development. It may also be sold/transferred to local municiple government for trail/park use. In rural areas, the right-of-way may be sold to property owners on either side (particularily farmers). Good chunks of the Trans Canada trail comprise of old railway roadbed. There is no rule of thumb as you can see. 14. Good luck with this one - it's a pretty rare Geocacher that far north.... "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  15. I'll put it to the team this weekend but I think we will put in an entry. Sounds like fun!!! Peter "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  16. Yes, thanks for pointing it out. I've ordered the West coast Trail & Baniff. At that price, how can you go wrong.... "Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again." (Franklin P. Jones)
  17. In the US, You are in violation of federal regulation by placing a cache in any area administered by the U.S. National Park Service. The reason cited is the National Park regulations are intended to protect the fragile environment, and historical and cultural areas found in the parks. What is happening in Ontario is trying to find the middle ground that works rather than prohibition. Thank you DonnaG and GM100GUY for taking the time to persue this. In the rest of the country we hope that a success will be transferable to other provincial park systems. Question??

For the record - I pressed submit the first time. The computer seemed to be hung up, I went 'back' and resubmitted one of the times. The other two times, I tried to repost. It's enough to make one blush. :I "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." (Niels Bohr)

    Question??

Major hiccup when trying to post a reply "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." (Niels Bohr)

    Question??

If they are starting back at the beginning point, what harm is it.... If they are picking up where the bug disappear, I agree that isn't fair... "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." (Niels Bohr)

  23. Hey, I heard that! "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." (Niels Bohr)
  24. $295 @ 7% PST = $20.65 so with $7 shipping still makes them one of the best deals around. I bought my GPS (Legend) via the internet and bought some Geocaching merchandising in person (visiting Calgary). It's a Mom & Pop shop that is very professional and customer focused. 25. From our family to yours, may you have a fun and safe Christmas holiday. We'll be celebrating a brown and very dry Christmas in Central Alberta. The StAlbert4 Team "An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field." (Niels Bohr)
