  1. Nope, I do those things Jeremy. And I have taught 2 generations of boys how to do those things. I object to the highly politicized rhetoric that many associated with earth day use to push there leftist agendas
  2. <FLAME ON> Yep, that’s right I hate “Earth Day”. I “cache in – trash out” all the time and my Boy Scouts and I have picked up a lot more garbage than most so called environmentalists, but I still hate “Earth Day” This is one of those events that makes me angry. It was invented in the 60s while I was in college by a bunch of leftist-socialist (dare I say communist) kooks who used it as just one more way of assaulting a capitalist free society. If you read the drivel that is published you would assume that humanity was a scourge from outer space and that we should all just go out and kill ourselves to “preserve the planet”. They will be pleased to tell you that an owl or a fish should have greater rights than you do. Follow the money here. What’s really at work here is a bunch of liberal leftist elite who believe that they are smarter, better educated, and know much better than you do how you should live your life AND they should control ALL the resources so they are properly used. (If you think this sounds Marxist, go to the head of the class) Take a good close look at how they have already limited personal rights and are constantly attacking personal property rights via unconstitutional environmental laws. I will work with anybody who really has the best interest of PEOPLE at heart. These earth day kooks don’t qualify and I will do whatever I can to expose their real game plan and hypocrisy. My birthday is April 22nd. I will be 55 and I am going to proudly proclaim that I had 3 kids (not two, Oh My GOD how selfish!) and that I am here using and modify my environment. <FLAME OFF>
  3. I have been using the ultimate GPS case as well. It works fine with the way I attach it to a pack and I frequently use the belt loop when I am hiking without a pack. The d rings allow for a lot of different attachment possibilities.
  4. I believe that when Magellan fixed a memory problem going from version 3.08 to 3.12 they opned up th ememory address space that the unit could handle. I remember reading somewher that any size SD card would now work.
  5. I'm sure that this has been written before but there are large numbers of USGS markers that were set for map purposes (primarily elevation) that are not in the NGS database. They only exist ON PAPER in the files at USGS.
  6. I use both and I would recommend MapTech over NG. I think the mapTech software is more open with fewer hidden "gotcha's" that you have to pay for like their Sync package. I also got five states in a package for $129.00. There is nothing out there except MapSend that will download MAPS into your GPS. All the good map programs will transfer waypoints routes and tracks.
  7. Mr. Snazz, where did you hear that GPSr also transmits? If they did they would need FCC registration. I think the interference you pick up when you get to close to another GPS is generated by the CPU and the Osc in the receiver section. The whole scenario sounds a little too black helicopter to be true.
  8. It looks like something caused a structural failure that broke the shuttle up like a large meteor. The contrail patterns don't support an internal explosion. This is really too bad. However, like any worthy effort that pushed the bounds of what we know RISK is always the silent passenger.
  9. I knew this woman had to be in California or Connecticut before I ever read the location. What a load of POO POO!
  10. I am sure I saw in other posts that the upgrade to 3.12 from 3.08 resolved any issues with large SD cards. Folks are running 256 MB cards and the 512 MB cards should also run.
  11. I'm suprised the local environmental wackos haven't been all over this yet. SUV's and geoCaching? OMIGOD! The end of the universe as we know it!!!
  12. Someon ejust found my Fire Tower cache in SW Ny in 3 feet of snow. It can be done.
  13. If there was no indication of private property (posted signs) and there was reasoanbale expectation of public land in the area then the landowner would have found his claim unenforcable against these folks. IT IS NOT CORRECT TO ASSUME ALL LAND IS PRIVATE. That is the purpose of posting in NY and other states. I think that this whole landowner thing in thw west has gotten totally out of hand and needs to be resolved. Proper posting is one of the ways to resolve that.
  14. I have upgraded my Green with no problem. I would take out theSD card i think the green shuts down more reliably during the upgrade with the card out. After you get the software in, put the card back in, go outside, clear memory and reinitialize and let the unit read for at least 15 minutes in a good open sky spot. I did this and my unit is flying.
  15. As far as I know any SD card will work. I am using a SanDisk card i got a great deal on.
  16. I havebeen using terrain Navigator from Maptech. I am VERY happy with the results of the mapping project we did for an abandoned settlement.
  17. I did not notice any additional abilities that Maptech Terrain Navigator doesn't have and I got five states in a package from maptech for $129.00
  18. The most frequent mistake made with this upgrade is not doing the initialization after the installation. Some folks have had to do it again after a brief test.
  19. Many state agencies are ading to the NGS database. New York State has added several GPS set points that became part of HARN. I have found several of them and the coordinates were usesful in testing my GPS
  20. If you are looking for a horizontal control. The coordinates on these are very accurate and can be used to test your GPS. Vertical controls are a different story. The GPS may or may not be any use. The type of control is listed in the write-up and on the NGS page you can search by type.
  21. I have not been abl to get the windows executables to run under XP-Home
  22. I also did the upgrade to 4.02 and I am not seeing the problems you are. What compass problem are you having? The compass on the Merigreen is only good if you are moving. I would try the following. Clear the Merigreen and remove the SD card. Make sure you have new batteries and reinstall vers 4.02 software. After the installation completes and you turnthe unit back on reinitialize it again. Replace your Sd card and go out side and let it see satellites for at least 15 minutes to rebuild its tables.
  23. It sounds like you did a very good job and are confident of your location. That means that the disk was vandalized and the hole in the center of the concrete post was where the post on the back of the disk was cemented in. People do vandalize these things. If you go to the NGS web site there are ways to report destroyed marks to the government. I think this would classify as a destroyed.
  24. Go to the position Screen. Press menu. you wil see projection listed as an option. Follow the prompts. You will be able to enter coordinates or distance and bearing
