  1. I would try another approach, just archive the cache for maybe 2 or 3 days and inform him of this fact. This will give him time to catch his breath and prepare him for another onslaught of your cache. I am sure that other cachers would appreciate this small delay to help a fellow cacher.
  2. Yep its ok as all our cigarettes are 12v................Except of course the king size which are 13 volt.
  3. I thought the same thing, the postage is too costly. So I make my own on my PC. They look exactly like the original, and I can put whatever text I want on the label. The only difference, is that I have to put my own adhesive on them. Good Luck
  4. I havent got AOl and I still get no emails from GC. I am using a Virgin account. So its not just an AOL problem
  5. I just want to say that whoever it is in that particular Forestry Commission that made this ruling doesnt really understand what this Geocaching is all about. If they did then they would know that it is a family pursuit and involves the usage of their walks, the enjoyment of their parks, etc. If they dont want the public to enjoy their forests etc then why dont they put barbed wire around their designated areas. Possibly even dog patrols to keep out unwanted commoners like myself. I suppose in extreme cases where the public insist on going (like mountains, Ben Nevis, etc) they could even have machine gun posts. RANT OVER.......but i havent finished.........Small rant to follow Take this scenario just as an example. POSITIVES.............. Human with tupperware box, puts the box into a hollow tree, under a bush etc. This action would then initiate other humans to pursue a healthy hobby, to gain Family Values by involving their children or friends, and also it would in some circumstances generate revenue for the FC (This i am not sure about so dont quote me ) NEGATIVES.................. 1. Fox, digs away at the ground to make a lair. Purely an act for themselves and no others. (We dont bury items) 2. Badger does the same. 3. Woodpecker drills a hole into a tree. (We dont harm trees) 4. FC drives all over the land. (We leave our vehicles in designated parking spots) 5. I am sure there are lots more, maybe you can think of some. So, as you can see there are more negatives that they allow than positives that they dont allow. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with nature, we could not live without it, but what i am saying is that the FC has not looked at both sides before making a judgement. Lets not forget that the FC cultivate trees for the market place. We are the buyers of their product whether it be wood for telegraph poles (being phased out) or wood for the paper making industry, the furniture industry. So it is in their interest to work alongside us, the public, to ensure their ongoing business. It seems to me that they are alienating themselves away from the public in this instance. Okay folks this is my opinion (rant) on this matter. Bearing in mind that I live in Norfolk and nowhere near the NW. Then please excuse me for butting in on this subject. But you know what they say, If one does it, others may follow.
  6. Hi Mike, You could also go to Geocaching.com and use their description of geocaching. I have read it and its pretty informative.
  7. Try emailing these people. enquiries@magnetic-paper.com
  8. Hi Gareth, I would tend to look at troubles like this as small hiccups along the way. Its a hobby of ours that is often fraught with problems, although we wish they were not. If its any consolation then take heart in the fact that other hobbies can cost a lot more than a few quid. I was a Ham radio Operator some years back and my 'hobby' cost me over a thousand pounds because my radio was stolen. So I gave that up for a safer hobby , Bungie Jumping without a bungie lol. Anyway Gareth I hope you get things sorted out soon. When things go wrong just say to yourself that there is always someone worse off than yourself.
  9. Started out using EasyGPS with my Legend and never had any reason to use anything else. That doesnt mean to say that EasyGPS is any better than the others, its just the one i use.
  10. Hi, I am using a Legend and i bought a serial to USB converter and it works just fine. You sometimes have to change the baud rate and serial port number, this is available from within your programs on the PC. This is how I changed mine. Go to START CONTROL PANEL SYSTEM HARDWARE DEVICE MANAGER PORTS Right Click COM PORTS PROPERTIES PORT SETTINGS ADVANCED If you go to each of these in turn as I have suggested then you will be able to choose your Com Port.
  11. Hi, I use a Garmin Etrex Legend. I bought it off Ebay for under £100, it came with all the UK and Europe maps. I am well pleased with what I have. Although mine is monochrome, some like a colour screen and this costs a little more. The legend does all you should need for geocaching.
  12. Not really difficult at all, I download all the uk waypoints in about 20 seconds. It takes a little longer to go to each waypoint and download the cache page. But then i just do the pages i need whenever I need them. They are all on the PC waiting to be looked at.
  13. If this is any help......... I went to a carboot one Sunday and I bought one of those hands free phone thingys that you stick onto your car dashboard and then it has a holder to clip the phone onto. It also came with the speaker bit and a couple of little extras, and all it cost me was a quid, and it was new and still in its box. I use it to hold the Garmin GPS, and it does the job well. So if you dont find the genuine GPS clip on thingy then maybe you can try one of these.
  14. Long logs, short logs, medium sized logs, one liners, logs that would outdo Tolstoys War and Peace, really it doesnt matter. What does matter is that the caches are there to find. Surely people dont lay caches so that they can bask in the glory of a mini novel log entry. Isnt the idea of geocaching the thrill of the hunt.... Or am I being too naive. Is it not enough to just find a cache ? Red Squadron..................John and Ann
  15. Hi, Why dont you do what i am doing and get some parcel labels and print your own. That way you can change your pictures or whatever, whenever you want. I must admit that having a roll of peel off labels is better than carting around an A4 page. But you pays your money and takes your chance. Have fun...... Red Squadron
  16. Hi Globetrotter, Just as Big Wolf has said.............I just download all the cache pages to MY Documents on my laptop and then simply open which ever I want, whenever I want. Happy Holidays Red Squadron
  17. Hi Tadpole, I have recently bought the Legend and i find that with the basemaps (included in the purchase) that it does what I need. The only gripe i have is the absence of extra memory. The Legend has 8mb for map usage, which is quite sufficient for most of Norfolk (where i reside) but I would have to remove Norfolk to put on lets say Cambridgeshire. I think the CX has more memory and a colour screen (Legend is B/W). So its down to your preference. The Legend is good, the CX is good but with more memory. Now all you have left is a 'phone a friend' and a '50/50', youve already used the 'ask the audience'. Good luck whichever you choose. Red Squadron
  18. Hi, Just to let you know that I am a newbie at Geocaching and i too looked at a few GPS units before spending my hard earned cash. What I wanted was the same as you and I found that Garmin did what I wanted, including maps. The one I got was the Garmin Etrex Legend. I bought it new from eBay and it came from the States with 3 CD,s that had the MapSource on them. It also included the data cable to hook up to my laptop. I bought this for 89.99 the postage was 8.00 extra. It holds up to 1000 waypoints and up to 8mb of maps, which is quite sufficient for my needs. You can also hook it up to Autoroute on the laptop and configure it to be used as a Sat/Nav system. Although not as brilliant as a dedicated Sat/Nav system it is quite good. Hope that helps.
