  1. Funnily enough there are also some forum guidelines that tell you what not to do: "Respect: Respect the guidelines for forum usage, and site usage. Respect Groundspeak, its employees, volunteers, yourself, fellow community members, and guests on these boards. Whether a community member has one post or 5,000 posts, they deserve the same respect." Maybe YOU should RTFM. I suppose that if YOU were to take a car out onto the road WITHOUT reading the flipping manual then it would be ok to run someone over because you were distracted by fiddling around trying to find which was the indicator stalk and which were the lights ? Instead of RTFM BEFORE you took the car out !!!!!! Maybe its not as serious but its the same principle.
  2. And I think YOU need to think before you type... Black Widow is Obviously a newbie - she only has 3 posts, and if you come along and blast her, then chances are she won't come back. Perhaps a friendly, subtle email might have been a nicer way to go? Ever heard the saying '|Read the Flipping Manual' in other words, if you dont know how to cache then read up about it, it tells you what to do, how to do it, and what NOT to do. Its a simple as ABC.
  3. Well, if this isnt a spoiler I dont know what is. I appreciate what your son is doing, but to tell everyone exactly where this cache is, is certainly not in the spirit of geocaching. Think before you type. It seems that it has been archived but even so, it might not have been.
  4. Hi, I was a CB,er and then got my 'A' License for Amateur radio. I have no problem with CB,ers at all. Its only the small minded 'Hams' that deride the CB,er. If you think about it, nearly all Hams were CB,ers at one time. My callsign should you be interested is G0CCS. 73,s John
  5. Hi Garry and Janine. I am, a relative newcomer too, we have been geocaching for over a year now but still got a few things to learn. But i will help you as far as i can. First......GPS....Well there is a lot to choose from and most use a GPS made by Garmin. Although there are a few other makes around. I use the Garmin Legend which cost me £89.00 with UK maps installed. I havent found any faults with this model but the CX series cost a little more and have a faster chip installed, and they have colour screens. They also have a larger memory. But its all down to cost. Dont know about the official sticker things as i print my own stickers etc. I also dont do geocoins. If you ask for help it might be a good idea to put your general location in here so that those Geocachers that are close to you can possible take you and yours under their wing for a while to help you get 'acclimatised'. I am near to Kings Lynn in Norfolk. Best Regards........John & Ann
  6. Rest of the World = 4 ........... Is it 132 Countries ? United Kingdom =2 ............One little island ? I would say percentage wise that the UK have an unbeatable record of Wherigo's...unless of course you are besotted with numbers, and think that we should have hundreds. Such is the way of life these days that some people HAVE to have more than anyone else.
  7. My Garmin uses WSG84 as the MapDatum, maybe your Magellan needs to have that 36 changed.
  8. I always thought that if there is a logbook in the cache that it had to be filled in to claim the cache. Or, in the case of Stonehenge a photo had to be taken of a certain stone and the picture sent to the owner of the listing to be verified before you could claim the find. If a picture of a field was all that was needed then I would have thousands of claims because I live in Norfolk (Field heaven). If these people want to cheat then let them, you know that your nettle stings etc mean that you have done the job properly. Cheaters never win. They just think they have.
  9. and dont forget to look for some houses to buy seeing as your current address seems to be in a 'rundown' state. I can give you a few cans of gloss paint if that will help............ Have a nice time in merika John & Ann (Red Squadron
  10. I would reckon that most of us are just sitting here waiting for the word 'GO' then its everyman or woman for themselves..........We have our site all sorted here in Norfolk, which is most unusual for Red Squadron as we are nearly always last in finding a cache place.
  11. Wow I did that Lyke Wake Walk in 1961, and I am now just a tad over 60yrs. I still have that famous coffin badge.
  12. Good point....................but I dont know of any events that I am going to.
  13. No you are not missing the point, I was going to go there first but then I thought I would like to give those cachers that dont use eBay a chance. Not everyone uses eBay (or am I living in the land of make-believe ) Anyway, I will be advertising the Ammo Cans using the thread that PKLONG has kindly given me. If I dont get any responses then i will use eBay. Thanks
  14. Hi, I would like to know where to advertise my 3 Ammo cans. Is there a specific area to post adverts ? Also what sort of price should I be asking ?
  15. You dont need to go to all the trouble of stocking up with CD's, just make a link to a free upload site which has the necessary music on it. Put this link in the cache box......Then all you need do is to go to that link, listen to it, get the clues and on to the next cache.
  16. You only have to read this forum to get the answer to that................... You cannot be serious ??????
  17. Red Squadron aka John & Ann will be only to pleased to help out. Hows about allocating one day and go and seek out a cache or two. We are not the most experienced but we do have 30 or so caches to our name. Thats a start. Oh yes I almost forgot, we live at Whittington near Stoke Ferry / Downham Market. Its not far from Wymondham, as the crow flies.

  19. Hi Booklady, it seems that we are all (including me) giving you lots of advice about what to get but no-one is giving you the basics of how to use a GPS. So let me start the ball rolling by giving you a simple How to use a Garmin. First I am not going to tell you all about it, that would take a while and really you will find that out when you get one. What I will tell you about is the simple GOTO function. When you have a co-ordinate in the Garmin and you have gone to the Find Waypoints bit, you will then have a choice of functions. One if these is the GOTO function. On the screen will be the Co-ordinate and a compass and a countdown in miles, then yards, then feet. As you turn yourself towards the cache location the compass will turn and point to where you should travel. It will also reduce the miles and yards and feet the closer to the cache you get. Should you go past the cache, the feet / yards will increase so you know when you have gone past the cache. So with the aid of the compass and the mileage you can pinpoint a cache to within 10 to 20 feet. Then its up to you to look around for what looks like a suitable place to hide a cache. Thats where experience comes in. Right thats it really, and you will notice that not once did I refer to the map. If you plan your trips carefully beforehand you wont need a map. I hope you get a good deal with your friend who works for Garmin. Handy friend to have. Good luck
  20. We use the Legend and dont have any complaints so far. Its never let me down yet. I do however feel that the MapSource we have is not the best maps for it. I dont use the map section anyway, I use the GOTO bit which shows the co-ordinates and compass. This is really easy to use. I also bought the download cable and am able to download all my waypoints from the PC to the Legend. The later CX versions are in colour and have a faster chip installed, but hey you gotta start somewhere and where better than a Legend. You can always upgrade later if you want to.
  21. Ask Spindlewood ! He is a master at the FTF game.
  22. Ask Spindlewood ! He is a past master at the FTF game.
  23. Anyone with an ounce of sense would know that if they found a cache with someone elses username or ID in the log, then the FTF would belong to that first name. Its not rocket science. And yes, what IS PWFF ?
  24. Hi, Do what I did ad paste the URL straight onto the reply window and dont use the Insert Image icon. It worked for me after spending a lot of time messing about with URL's.
  25. Ok, well I must admit that it had me fooled. When i click on the icon for uploading pics I get a box appear that has a http:// in it, so I put in the photobucket URL. When i view it on the forum it only uploads a bit of text called [/img] So I decided to just copy and paste the URL here in the reply window....BINGO !! So why cant I use the Insert Image button ? Strange ? Anyway, apologies to those of you that have put up with my feeble attempts at uploading a pic. And thanks for the help I have receivedfrom Keehotee and Paul.
