  1. Good to know! Unfortunately my car does not have Android Auto.
  2. I'm looking to buy a car GPS that has the capability of displaying geocaches as clickable POI icons on the map. Does anyone know of models that support this? I do lots of planning before going geocaching and know how to import geocaches to a car GPS as POI with GSAK, together with certain parking coordinates too. I prefer having a dedicated car GPS instead of using my cellphone. With basic car gps models I had in the past I would need to search through the list of POI to select the geocache I wanted to navigate to as no icons displayed on the map. Thanks in advance!
  3. Just curious, what metric are you using to gauge activity in South Africa? SA certainly has its problems but geocaching has most certainly not died and there are very active communities in the big cities. I recommend you also subscribe to the local Geocachers of South Africa (GoSA) newsletter which will keep you informed on the current happenings - see geocachingsa.com.
  4. Thanks so much for these details! This is really awesome and I will definitely tackle more ALs as it is now so easy to get the coordinates for each stage on my handheld gps
  5. Danie, hope you will spoil us with more stats soon
  6. Wow, thanks for the interesting stats! Indeed, caching popularity has dropped these past few years and Covid-19 has also added to this. What is a big concern too is a drop in owner maintenance - fewer caches are being placed and caches are also falling to the wayside without maintenance. I remember when the resuscitator challenge was popular (finding a cache that hasn't been found in more than a year). Now there are plenty of caches that fit this criteria! Can you perhaps generate some stats on find frequencies lately?
  7. Thanks so much for these instructions which were of tremendous help in fixing a broken gif image !
  8. Yes, I am aware of this workaround, thanks. My question is why should I need to use another app to see the coordinates? Also, it directs to Google Maps and there the coordinates are given in degrees, minutes and seconds or decimal degrees not the conventional decimal minutes used in geocaching which my other devices are set on. Yes I can easily convert them or perhaps use another routing app but it would be easy if the coordinates were just displayed in the AdLab app.
  9. I agree wholeheartedly that the coordinates should be displayed on the navigate page as well as when navigating with the compass too maybe. I did my first two adventures yesterday and it was extremely frustrating to not see coordinates anywhere so I could have the option of navigating to each stage with a handheld or automotive gps. This restricts navigation to the app or google maps which is ridiculous. The points on the map should all be clickable and then display the coordinates too. I hate using my phone to navigate to caches and I don't understand why it is restricted. Everywhere else in geocaching, I can use whichever device (handheld, automotive, phone) I prefer as the coordinates are displayed and are downloadable.
  10. That's very cool! We know that most newbies do not continue but perhaps a few will stay in the game and become regulars .
  11. Interesting, thanks for the updated stats! I was very surprised to see a cacher find over 400 caches over the lockdown! It seems to be a new handle splitting off from waydom, who is catching up with logging all the past finds. I'm curious to know how many cachers have found a cache during the lockdown and how many cachers found their first cache during this time?
  12. Thanks for clarifying. It's a pity that it's quite difficult to generate comprehensive stats about Favourite points.
  13. I think there's a problem somewhere as Team DJ's Puzzle Quest #4 was only found once in 2019. It could have only gained one FP in the year (or a few I guess retroactively by finders later)? I checked a few in the list and it seems to be the total favourite points earned, not those earned in 2019?
  14. Awesome, thanks for maintaining your historical cache . 1291 finds - Must be one of the most found caches in SA.
  15. Thanks for the new stats Danie! Do stats like number of finds, number of cachers who found at least a cache, number of active cachers (12+ cache finds a year) and total active caches also reflect a downward trend over the past few years? I've definitely seen fewer new geocachers and many of our stalwarts have become interested in other hobbies and have drifted away from geocaching sadly. Another question, how many cachers placed geocaches in SA last year and how does that compare to previous years? Also, what is the trend in newbies placing caches (ie how many cachers hid there first geocache last year?) Will be interesting to see a review of SA Geocaching similar to the Global one. Thanks in advance!
  16. Very interesting stats. Thanks very much! I was wondering if you can generate some stats on cache maintenance and age? I've noticed many caches which are placed and then unfortunately not well taken care of after publication. Which caches have the highest number of owner maintenance logs? Is there a correlation between cache age and owner maintenance logs? I expect there would be in certain areas but then again there are caches hidden in remote places that, if hidden in good containers, won't really need any TLC after publication - I've found quite a few like this. Can you also tell us which are the loneliest caches (caches with the longest time since they were last found) in SA and per province? I revisited a cache I found back in 2012 on Saturday and was very surprised to see that the last found it log was in 2015! I also found a cache in 2013 and to date it hasn't been found again yet .
  17. See it's gone up slightly with 179 logs on the cache page. Yip, unfortunately the attendance was quite low compared to the 530 will attends. However, this was not out of the ordinary - CT Mega 595 will attends, 218 attended, KZN Mega 326 will attends, 177 attended. The first Mega was by far the best - 244 will attends, 212 attended.
  18. Thanks for the interesting new stats! Looking forward to what's coming next
  19. Planetary Pursuit: 19 March - 16 April Hidden Creatures: 27 June - 25 July You might be a geocacher if: September - December
  20. I echo Sokkies73 sentiments ?. Hope we can see some new posts from the stats guru soon ?. I'm especially interested to see whether there was a significant different in finds during the souvenir periods this year - did the Planetary Pursuit, Hidden Creatures and the You might be a geocacher if promotions have any effect?
  21. Very interesting! The number of photos in archived logs is perculiar but they are probably included to show how the area has changed or how the hiding spot has deteriorated. The Will attend ones are quite bizarre - I haven't ever seen a photo in a will attend log
  22. Awesome! Thanks for these stats . Very interesting!
  23. Thanks for all the new stats . Could you generate stats on photos? Was wondering if there has been a downward trend in cachers including photos in logs especially with cachers wanting to find more and more caches .
  24. Very interesting. Thanks for the cool stats Danie! I was wondering if you can generate these stats: Of the 2064 cachers who found at least 12 caches in the last year, how many of them had a find in each month of the year? I am often quite busy but always make sure that I find at least 1 cache every month and I wonder how many cachers do the same. Also, is it possible to generate these same stats to apply since the beginning of their caching career? Would be interesting to see who has maintained at least one find a month since their very first find .
  25. Awesome roadtrip stats Danie! Very interesting to see the spread of the number of cachers. I find it quite surprising that there were only 154 handles that completed all of them .
