  1. > So Xmap can give you directions, eh? Yep. It can find addresses, generate road-based turn-by-turn maps, give you "what next?" directions along the way. It's pretty cool. > ... Map Companion ... a moving map (smooth and nice ... ) A smooth map? That's my 2nd biggest complaint about XMap. The map is redrawn whenever the view has to change, and the redraws are slow (though better with the update). > Another question about XMap. Does it support waypoints at all? Yes, barely. You can set Waypoints on the Palm but you can't enter Lat/Lon coordinates to do so. You do it by clicking the map. You can supposedly enter waypoints on Topo USA and download them to the Palm, but I couldn't find a way to do it (in the UI anyway) even with help from tech support. So I gave up and now I'm writing a Waypoints converter for XMap. It'll take .loc files and download them straight into XMap... when I'm done. And it will let you enter Lat/Lon coordinates directly on the Palm, too. :-) I call it "WayBetter". Team Hord
  2. M-D-M, What software are you wanting to download waypoints for? I'm working on something for this for the Delorme XMap software... Phil Team Hord
  3. I am working on the program (WayBetter) and I am making progress. I had to spend some time on another project for a while. I can almost enter coordinates manually on the palm. I'll send you guys an interim release as soon as I get that part working. The conduit for downloading .loc files will come later -- but not too much later. Phil

  5. Dan, I have the new update and have had no trouble tracking routes. I only tracked routes that I plotted on the Palm, though. I dig the new map creation mode -- much larger maps are easier to create now. I just got a CF card memory expansion, too, so now I can store all of Metro Atlanta at routable level 12! Woo hoo! I also got Topo USA 4.0, but the map coordinates seem to be way off. I thought it was my GPS, but I went back to the XMapHH-generated maps and it's back on target. Phil Team Hord

  7. I found www.travelbygps.com, which is sort of what I want to do, but it's more moderated and "copyrighted", though I don't believe you can copyright waypoint data. Anyway the data there is too small and not user fed enough. It's a good start, though, and it may be useful for some of you. Team Hord
  8. I looked at GeoBuddy before. I contacted the author about letting me write an adapter for the Palm, but he never wrote back. I hadn't thought about it for file format conversions, though. I'll add it to my radar. -- thanks. Team Hord
  9. Wow... that's a lot of waypoints at topografix.com. I don't think I'd even want all that data in my Palm software -- its waypoint manager sucks. I see a lot of *.tpo files, though, and this new *.loc file is binary too. Is there a standard file format somewhere? Are there data conversion utilities to go between different packages? Or is everything this proprietary? Team Hord
  10. I have an Earthmate receiver I use with my Palm. The Delorme software is pretty cool (Xmap HH) but it always fails to go that "one more step" which would make it great. My biggest complaint is Waypoint editing. There is no way to enter waypoints in Lat/Lon numeric form. You have to click the map to place the waypoint, and you have to know where to click. It's maddening. Anyway, I'm writing some software for the Palm to let me enter waypoints into XMap. I'm going to write a "conduit" so I can download the EasyGPS .LOC files directly into XMap. If anyone is interested in testing this software when I have it finished, drop me an email: WayBetter@phord.com (Or leave a reply here and I should get it.) Team Hord
  11. Thanks for the authoritative reply. Are there any examples of these aerial photos I can see online? (Just curious) Team Hord
  12. I'm looking for a good source of trail data. Geocaching is great at leading me to trails I've never heard of. I have Delorme Topo USA 4 and I was surprised how few foot trails it has in its database for my area. I know there are other databases with far more trails, but I don't want to pay for them (again) only to find out they really don't cover much. Is there a site where users can upload their route/waypoint files to add to some public database? (If not, I think I'll create one.) Phil Team Hord
  13. When I was in California last year (near Sacramento) I noticed big white plus signs painted on the ground all over town. Some were on highways; some were on grassy fields. I guessed they were for aerial surveys, but does anyone on here know for sure? I wish I had a picture to show you. They're about 2 feet wide and 2 feet high. Maybe a little more. Sometimes there's marker nailed in the center of the plus. Team Hord
