  1. Well, that kind of lessens my hope for these missing caches more than it reassures me, really. They logged on three months ago, (hopefully) saw that these need help, and didn't fix them. I'm not like.. upset about it or anything, and I don't want to step on anyone's feet at all, or hassle them or anything like that. I just hate the thought that someone might come to this little town and find that half of the caches are gone. I think I'll try to email the CO and see if I can help.
  2. I live in a small town with a number of caches that were placed a few years ago. The person who placed most of them hasn't maintained them for over a year. Some of their caches are still there, and some of them are long gone with a 8 month list of DNF's. Would it be inappropriate to put whole new caches that match the descriptions back in the places where they disappeared from? Should I log the missing ones as "NM" and see if the cache owner does anything? Is there like a certain amount of time given as a grace period before someone should/can take action on these?
  3. The GPS-to-PC sync cable looks like it has pretty standard ends on it - the USB to attach to the computer and then the smaller end to attach to the unit. I'm positive I already have cables with these exact two ends on them, from my PS3 controller cable to the cables I've used for my MP3 players. I see certain cables being sold on the internet as being specifically FOR the NUVI 250/255/260, but I have also learned that you really shouldn't trust someone who's trying to sell you something. So, I'm almost positive that ANY cable with the proper ends will work, but I thought I'd ask - do you need the cable specifically made for the Garmin?
  4. I'll probably just nix the idea of the mystery cache then, just make it a straight-up regular one, and yeah, I'm going to make it an obvious grab so people aren't wandering around in the yards here. Thanks all, I'm looking forward to doing this!
  5. I'm waiting for my Garmin Nuvi 250 to arrive in the mail, but in the meantime I'll probably stop by a few very local to me that I know I can find just based on descriptions and with Google Earth. I'm not going to put out my own cache until I'm more experienced and have found a few myself, but I'm thinking.... 1 - I own a garage that you can literally touch from a paved alley that's attached to a public parking lot. I could put up a (bird house) cache on the side of my garage. Would it be weird to have a cache that close to my house? It would be pretty easy, you could park less than 15 feet from the cache, get the cache (it's not in view from my house, or any other houses really, but the house is on the other side of the garage). 2 - What if it was a "secret" cache? In big enough caches I visit, I could leave a business type card with a word puzzle that would lead to a website that contains the coords for my birdhouse/garage cache? Just kind of thinking out loud here...
