  1. whoops someone beat me to it.
  2. See above. I have eliminated both posts from this and another forum.
  3. Never mind, HC found what I had missed in about 8 secs. Thanks and I will now slink down off the porch realizing I am not yet a big dog... Shouldn't be trying to play in their territory yet.... the K of Kasma Seems I goofed in more than one way today according to WreckDiver...sorry, won't happen again...btw have contacted cache owner no response hence the reason I thought I would try here....didn't realize it was unacceptable. Learning as we go
  4. ]Never mind....I am an idiot, HC found what I missed in about 8 secs. Thanks for the help
  5. definitely still a newbie after reading this one :0 Also know you're new if you hide your first cache and make a log from scratch because you never thought to ask if one was available online...just read about it in another thread here The K of KasmaGang
  6. Adding to this question...I don't have a PDA but I do have an eBook. Not sure which software supports using this. Anybody know? Also trying to query for a trip, tried reading about babel (I think that is what it is called) and was in way over my head...don't suppose there is a pocket query for Dummies???
  7. Dang that was easy. Thanks. Guess we can delete this thread if they want
  8. Hey, trying to list my first hide and I am not sure 1) how to get mapquest to list the coordinates on a map and then 2) how to attach this map to my cache page. I know, stupid question, but hey this is what this is for, right? K of Kasma
  9. Just reposting incase no one reads up high enough. Please Help? My nick is the first inital of myself, son 13, son's friend 13, daughter 10 and daughters friend 12. We started together and do a lot together. Anything Texasy and geo colors maybe like a coin-type shape with Kasma Gang on it would be awesome. Thanks again for anyone who gives it a try.
  10. Wonder if I should log a DNF if I drive by but there are too many muggles??? Totally just kidding ....find it, sign it, log it....seems pretty simple in concept huh? Until I read this thread :P
  11. Does anyone still come to this thread? Does anyone still make avatars?
  12. Ok, totally new to caching, but I like the logs for all the reasons listed above. When I cache with my kids, it is for their enjoyment so I want to find caches that I am sure they will be able to find. Seeing recent finds as well as words like easy, piece of cake, etc. I feel confident that my kids will have a chance to find it. Yes, they also have DNF's so they get that they can't always win, but I definitely want the majority to be the positive for them. So for that I thank those caches CR lists as lame. As a matter of fact, today I went looking for a cache where a previous finder said they say wild boars on the trip. I took my kids, and armed with this information they were both in the car when that big black ugly thing started walking towards me on the path. The kids would have been with me otherwise. I know, weird example, but I run much faster without a child on each hip
  13. Hey this stuff is awesome. I am new to geocaching. Name is the first inital of myself, ds/13, ds friend/13, dd/10, dd friend 11. Any avatar would be fantastic, but if there was anyway to incorporate the name and the geo colors, that would be even better. I have no ability with computer software, I use charcoal, watercolors and paint.... Thanks to anyone who wants to give this a try. Maybe mom and 4 kids type of thingy.... Thanks tons for any attempt.
  14. Thanks for all the info. Appreciate it.
  15. I am so new I make that tadpole look a very pale green....so what is the difference between geocaching and terracaching???? I get the virtual caching...took a minute, but I got it. Then once I know what it is, how to I go about finding which ones are in my area??? Thanks for helping this poor li'l tadpole. I still don't even have a quote yet, but that was another thread
  16. I have been out 3 times (started on 2/12/06) and thankfully we found the 4 out of 5 that we set out to do, I had no knowledge like the 101 page, which I have booked by the way, thx, and was flying by the seat of my pants. I am one of those people that just jump without much knowledge. I have found 7 total now and will go find my DNF if it kills me :0. The point I guess I am trying to make, is I am not sure what I would feel like if we found none our first time out, I didn't even approach this "sport" with the possibility of not finding them. Our first one was a matchstick case in the crack of a tree and my ds/13 found it. After that we had a bit of a clue how to look, next in a tree too, but there was one of those kudzu vines (if fr. TX you know what that is ) and we followed it around until we found the 35mm case. Since then I have been in the woods where my GPS won't hold a signal and just ticked because I know it IS RIGHT THERE!! but couldn't find it. It is so easy to get hooked, but I am so glad I didn't start without finds. Congrats on your first find, awesome huh? I still want a FTF really bad! I am not sure I would have had your guts to keep trying at the front of this, but I am glad I wasn't tested that way because I have found a new calling. Long winded, but there it is. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
  17. Three problems with this. "First, the cache owner doesn't get a notification of the find. Many cache owners enjoy the notifications and reading these is one of the reasons they place caches." That confuses me. (Don't worry, it happens.) I clicked on the "Found it." Why doesn't that notify the owner? "Second, it doesn't update the "last found" date of the cache. This could throw off people who prefer to search for caches that have recent finds and discourage them from looking for the cache." Well, okay. I can see that as a problem sometimes. But 1) there were many recent finds just before I actually found it, and 2) although it's just a coincidence with this one, I actually did leave a note the day after I found it (indicating that I had edited my website log) because I wanted the owner to be aware that his cache log was slightly damp. (Maybe people should either leave the DNF as is and then log a find, or do what I did and then just leave a note on the right date. My original intent was to avoid cluttering the site with more logs than I thought the owner might want there.) "Finally, it alters the history of the cache. Finds and DNFs provide information to other geocachers. If they scan the logs and see some DNFs they will realize that the cache might take a little effort to find. If everyone sanitized their DNFs like you do, the cache could look a lot easier than it is. I know from a personal standpoint, if I see nothing but smiley faces, I'm not likely to search very long before I'll give up and assume the cache is gone. If I see DNFs sprinkled throughout the cache logs, I'll assume its not a slam dunk find and put in some extra effort." Well, that might be an issue if they just look at smiley faces, but I left everything in the log's text. They can read that and see where it took me four trips (go ahead, have a field day). But okay. There's logic there. It's pretty much reinforcing a decision I already made to be more careful next time before prematurely logging a DNF. However, in regard to this one cache, it's sort of ironic that my inadvertently making things more challenging is seen as a problem. The entire description of this particular cache was written in a manner to make finding this cache much more challenging than it would have ordinarilly been. (Most of the difficulty in finding the cache arose from believing the description. He appeared to *want* people to believe it was easier than it was.) I suspect that my confuscating things worked to the advantage of the owner's goals. (I sure hope he appreciates that.) Thanks. I am totally new at this, but I have logged 2 DNF's and I am going back to find them, believe you me! I see it as a personal challenge and somehow that old honor system...if I went to find this cache on this day and did not find this cache on this day, then it is a DNF and I will log it as such, just seems the right thing to do. Then when (notice I didn't say if) I find it, there is a big ole Yahoo! for finding one I missed the first time out. It's like, gee, I don't know, not signing a log because the cache was out of my reach and deciding to call it a find anyway....but that's on another thread
  18. I have 13 year old and talking on good day is a challenge. I started this 2 weeks ago, took him and my dd and a friend of each. Our first find was a matchstick container, you know my geocache friends, nothing but a log book. Those kids thought they had found the holy grail for heavens sake. My son was in the front seat beside me while we found 3 more that day and honest to goodness we laughed out loud for miles. It was freaking amazing!!!! That alone is reason to cache. Also, I am hooked hooked hooked. I have actually went out on my own today for the first time and found what I was looking for and laughed out loud when I found it! Looked around quickly to make sure no one heard me, but had a blast! Outside, kids want to be with mom, OMG what else is there???? Kasma_gang KimAlexSarahMadisonAJ
  19. Hey, son is going camping in Double Lakes Rec area and I was wondering if anyone has cached there or since it is a park, is geocaching allowed there even? It is near Cold Springs/New Waverly TX Thanks
  20. I am so lost. I have Google Earth, but live in a very rural area and see nothing worth noting. As for gpx/kml/gsak I am way too much of a newbie for that. I just manually load the waypoints into my GPS and go. Only been once so far, found 4 out of 5 caches, so I guess it works
  21. Sounds like fun. It is cold here people for Houston area anyway, rainy and closer to freezing than not. Hey what is the Quantum Leap?
