  1. I have an eTrex Legend Cx - I've searched the site and can't find the manual. When the display is scrolled in very tight, the map displays too many icons (or services - I think that's what Garmin calls them). It's overwhelming and obscures the street detail. I've been through all the menus on the unit trying to figure out how to reduce or eliminate them and I can't figure it out. Can someone help?
  2. Im not sure what i would expect to pay. $115- $140 seems to be the going price on eBay although many that are sold have a 1 year warranty. That much for a used Legend C ? Huh.
  3. sorry about the double topic. I already emailed the mod to get it deleted.
  4. I'm getting ready to upgrade to a better model and want to possibly sell my Legend C. I need some help before I do this. First - is it possible to clear out all the waypoints and geocaches on the unit in one swift move? There are a ton, including my home address, which obviously, I'd like removed before I sell it. Second - what software would you expect with a used unit? I'm planning on buying another one, so I want to hold on to my CN NA v8. Do I need the original MapSource Cd to use CN or can I send that with the unit? Third - what would you expect to pay for a Legend C, with some, but probably not all, the original accessories, in perfect working order and near perfect aesthetic condition?
  5. Obviously I'm constrained to very little map memory, but am I right when I discovered that you can't load individual maps without deleting the previously installed maps, even if there is sufficient memory? I found about 6 maps to load (and probably exceeded the available memory at one time), but the only map remaining is the last one to load (~8M). It seems as if they will load simultaneously, but I didn't have a chance to try that. Is that right?
  6. Well, for example (and this is just an example), the 4x4 icon seems to be used if there's a scattering of gravel on the pavement.
  7. accurate? There's some latitude in their definitions?
  8. I really appreciate that. I've already emailed the seller. It's pretty clear the product was incomplete- I didn't get the unlock code or coupon either. caveat emptor....
  9. So what I have is basically an upgrade? And if I don't have the base software, I can't install it?
  10. Bought this off eBay because I have a Legend C and no DVD. The error says "Please start this data CD install from the Startup CD." Confused: There are two cd's and this one is clearly labeled 1 of 2. Can't find anything on Garmin's site and the tech support is closed already.
  11. So Metroguide would work as well, but it just wouldn't have the autorouting feature?
  12. This is overwhelmingly baffling for someone new. I feel like I've read 1000 threads and I'm now more confused than ever. Somebody please make this simple for me and tell me which software I need-Metro/City Select/City Navigator? - version 7? 8? Only one caveat- I don't have DVD - so I need something available on cd. And with the Legend C, I only have 24MB of internal memory - no card.
  13. So, after I set it up, I just need to go to the "My Pocket Queries" page and put a check mark in the box on today (to get an instantaneous email)? There's no "submit" button that I'm missing?
  14. Thanks, brian. I do want to clarify that, in my case, I'm fairly certain that I'm doing something wrong, since I've only ever received one, out of probably 8 attempts - over a couple of months. At this point, having read the other threads, I'm not expecting anything today, but I'd like to make sure that I'm doing it right. For all I know, I broke the doggone thing! So it goes....
  15. Hmm.... but I've been trying since February...
  16. I know you guys must get tired of this stuff. I know how to set it up... I think. I've built five of them. But I never seem to get the actual email with the zip file. I managed to pull it off once, but it was a full moon.... I have no idea how I did it that time. I've checked my spam accounts, tried using different email accounts... I'm sure there's just something I'm not doing right. This is what it looks like: Shouldn't I basically get the email/attachment instantly?
  17. Yeah, I followed it to a tee. Or so I thought!! I just ran the whole process again and it worked beautifully. So it goes....
  18. I've tried that (link), Miragee. I can't quite recall how it didn't work, but it didn't. I'll try again tonite. I can get them on Cachemate individually, but it's very time consuming. Leps - When I open Plucker on my palm, it shows one file. When I open that, I can tell that all of the caches are listed in this one file -because I can see their names wedged in between RASCs (Really Annoying Special Characters). But, again, I'll have a screen full of rasc, then half a page of good text, then more rasc... Should all the caches be listed individually under plucker? Or are the queries listed? Maybe thats the problem. Then again, it could be user error. So it goes....
  19. You know miragee, I tried that route (pun fully intended). I can get the cache notes on the pda with Cachemate without a problem, but only one at a time, with about 50 keystrokes per. It's likely that I'm not using it properly.... so it goes (out the window). Leps - yes, the text is there, but it's nearly impossible to read for all the special characters. Any ideas?
  20. The pocket query showed up on my palm with a lot of %, ) and #'s. The individual notes are buried within all of this. It's almost illegible, but I can tell there are a lot of cache notes in there somewhere. I suspect something's not right... So it goes...
  21. Merlin - I discovered the same thing, but I believe its because the compass function only work accurately when I'm moving. Otherwise, it can't quite determine which direction I'm facing and will generally display the compass heading I was traveling before I stopped. I don't think they're sensitive enough to pick up a movement as small as rotating in one place. And I think it attempts to determine which direction we are moving, when we're not, which gives the funky readings. So it goes....
  22. *blink* *blink blink* It's like you people are speaking a different language.
  23. Ok, I figured this part out, thefords. Make sure you d/l the gpx file first to GSAK. Highlight it in GSAK, then under the FILE options, click on Export. The first option on that pop up menu should to your palm. Just click on it, and it'll basically do the rest, except the hotlink part. Now the next problem I had was that I could only do one at a time, and had to re-label each one after it was transferred to Cachemate on my palm (tedious). I'm spending more time prepping than actual hunting. I can lose interest real quickly like this.
  24. An additional question. Is it possible to load caches on to the pda en masse?
