  1. We're just plainly asking this question, so we know what we're up against when we do mystery caches : What keeps you busy during the week, when you're not geocaching? For example, we guestimate that GlobalRat must be some math's professor that is in high demand. (We're sure he charges by the hour, as he seems to travel a helluva lot!) - because for the past 2 months, we've been still trying to fiqure out Stoddard's Demise, but to no avail, those puzzles are still giving us the run-around! We're also sure that cache-fan, cowandchicken, TVM and everybody else in the top 10 have made their millions during their youth from some well-paying job (like burying bodies or something else like that), because who has the time (and money!) to drive 8500km around the country to geocache? (apart from CnC) - we're jealous Okay, we'll start! We're a team of students, perfectly adapted to the game of geocaching, with future careers as an accountant, a marketer, a civil engineer, and a parking attendant. Anyone else that does something interesting in their "spare time"? P.S. We're looking for a hot blonde to join the team, for group motivation. Must have 4x4, gold credit card, and know how to fillet fish - all applications can be forwarded to this address
  2. awww... dankie Brick I wouldn't even worry about it... I can also tell you that these "geocachers" we talk about are most probably not even reading this forum... so all the hot air we're creating here is just steaming up our computer screens and in anycase, I bet they'll find a couple of caches and get bored after a dozen or so.. ... though I must agree that sometimes the minority do spoil it for the rest... has anyone else noticed that the red flashing arrows (LTAS) on robots are being taken away?!!! gone are the days when you can sneak a quick left at the junction, or is it that only the east rand had these robots?
  3. Darn! This cache was our "to-do" list! Well, we feel that there is always a reason (especially for reserves) that a fee is levied at the gate: it isn't because the owners are trying to make a fast buck out of us... somebody has to keep the place going so that one day our grandchildren will find this same cache! Also, while laying the Amazing Cache series, we have paid over R200 in entrance fees from numerous trips to our cache locations while doing research and laying the physical cache (and then we find out that if we just pointed at the horse trail sign - we get in for free ) - it's all part of the experience, and South Africans should just get out of the habit of "bargaining" our way into places (discount, discount!) - you're not visiting the Oriental Plaza! (actually... is there a cache there?) once again - sorry to see this cache go.
  4. This is all just for a laugh... though this thought started boggling me while I was studying for my Tax exam... and as a good student... I tend to get distracted very easily, and thought about how the geocaching community competes so heavily to climb the rankings, spilling blood and sweat along the way. So I pose this question to you: Would you date/ marry someone who has more cache finds than you? Just think about it for a sec...
  5. Hey perdix, we've got a cache there right by the Southern Sun Hotel: GCWM58
  6. Remember... we're students! These icons are very work-related! So what does your desktop look like Charlie?
  7. Yeah vespax, it's true... chuck is definitely part of the team. We prefer not to take him along on some of the caches though, because most of the Large caches we find, end up becoming Micros... don't know if that's a good idea... we'll need a GPSr to find you again! the cache page on the website will look something like this: The Round House by Chuck Norris S 00.000, E 028 00.00 (round-housed out of GPS coverage) 999999999999km from your home coordinates. This is a Large cache. (About the size of a human body) Rating: 10/10 Cache Logs: Did Not Find (Actually, it will never be found!)
  8. ha ha Brick, you're meant to be looking at all the geocaching-related icons!! I spent a lot of time and money getting this beer boep, and it takes double the time and money to get it off though i think geocaching is helping
  9. One day, after finishing all my work on the computer, I was just about to shut down, when I actually took a minute to notice what was on my desktop. see the amount of geocaching-related paraphernalia? ha ha who can beat this?!!
  10. So you guys suggest that we order the unit from the US, and purchase the Mapsource instead of the Garmap for auto-routing?
  11. Thanks for the address ZAteam... the price does seem a lot lower than the units here, and you've never had any problems?
  12. Don't worry GR - I'm sure you'll get spoiled one day
  13. Thanks guys, I think my dad will really like this - though I don't think my mom knows what she's in for! So how would I go about purchasing the 60CX from Europe? (Other than buying a plane ticket ) Do you recommend a particular website?
  14. Our dad has just bought himself the new Toyota Landcruiser - and has been in heaven since (not sure if it's one of those mid-life crisis scenarios we all hear about), but he is really keen on getting out more and exploring our beautiful country, and what better way to do it than by geocaching? Anyways, Fathers day is coming up (with his birthday the day after), so my brother and I want to get him a GPSr that he can take geocaching, as well as use in the car for auto-routing (for business) and for bundi-bashing around the rest of the continent. We've been looking at the Garmin 60C - which we're not sure if it will take the SA Maps and all the 4x4 routes around Southern Africa. Any suggestions?
  15. Hi there everyone, I think what you find is that the majority of "spur of the moment" caches tend to me micros lying all over the place, which should (terrain allowing) be converted into a regular cache. It's too easy to place a micro in the middle of no-where, just to climb the rankings. We prefer doing caches that have taken time to put together... that's what keep us addicted!
  16. Thanks Cache Fan! We just started this thread in preparation for the next cache, which we will place this week... so stay tuned! It will prove to be among one of the most challenging caches to date, though we know you will thoroughly enjoy it! It's about quality, not quantity Yours in caching, Team Farmers
  17. Good day all, Just posting this thread as a meeting place for geocachers taking part in the Amazing Cache, who need partners around South Africa to help them complete the next leg of the "race". You can find more details at: The Amazing Cache #1: South Africa Please Note: Both geocacher's may claim the cache, even though the cache may only be found by one of the team members (You need to mention who was your team member, and no one may take part in the same cache twice). cheers, Team Farmers
  18. I must say, that although it is darn cold outside, what awesome blue skies we are having here in Gauteng! With summer so filled of rain and partly-cloudy conditions, it reaks havoc on our GPSr accuracy, though looking outside today just makes me want to get outside and find a couple of caches! Was actually thinking of doing some caching in Durban next week, but I heard they're having some bad storms? Hope everyone else's week is going well. Chris from Team Farmers
  19. Sounds Great! I definetly think QFC might use some of their mighty talent here and design an online voting system that is controlled by usernames (cos they already have all the info in place), and that system can just colllect the votes and sort into the respective provinces/ categories (which I must add is also a great idea Goofster).... another quick thought... and I know other geocachers are already doing it.... if you feel that your cache is up to the challenge, maybe we can design a link/button for the cache descriptions pages that will make it quick and easy for cachers to rate? Cheers, Team Farmers P.S. What about if we also create this idea into a bi-annual event cache where the results are released? awesome way to meet fellow cachers!
  20. Hey guys, We just wanted to let you know, that since joining this amazing sport in January this year, we have travelled to some of the most wonderful places in this beautiful country that we thought never existed. Well done to everyone on their respective milestones, and thank you for giving back to the sport in everything you do. It is a good feeling to know that there is a wonderful South African community out there... we look forward to meeting you all at the next event cache. Cheers, Team Farmers
  21. Thanks QFC, Interesting to know. Cheers, Team Farmers
  22. Hey guys, Was thinking about this today... and maybe QFC can help? Which is the most popular/ busiest cache in the country? How many logged visits has it had over the years/ rate of visits per month? Anyone got an idea? Thanks again, Team Farmers
