  1. I'm not positive, but I think that is all stored on the servers, not your iphone.
  2. Unless I'm missing something... Every large cache I have found with swapables has been exactly like that.
  3. I went out kayaking for some caches yesterday. I had four in mind. Didn't find any
  4. Do the entire community a service and dont use film containers.
  5. I had to log my first needs maintenance cache this morning. I noticed on the digital log it labeled it as red and not green. Does it still get added to my find count? Or do I have to select "found it"?
  6. The only modifying I have ever done to a cache without getting permission is adding a plastic bag because the log is wet due to the lack of one.
  7. My problem is a find good spots - and can't use them. And most likely we define "good cache" differently. Though there are caches that are very good just because the place is beautiful or the container is sneaky I usually prefer something a bit more challenging. That's the problem I had when hiding mine. 2 locations were denied because I was only 450 feet always from a 3mm film container with a soaked log, and placed by the dozens by people who were visiting from Massachusetts (i live in CT). Their caches are now slowly getting shut down here and there because everyone starts calling for maintenance and the COs live too far away and don't bother replying. I say they should all be disabled so that people that actually live in our state can have some fun. Not to mention that they are all at Dunkin Donuts and either under a lamp skirt or in a bush that will tear up your arm.
  8. There are already 3 functional satellites orbiting Mars... Just saying
  9. If they are getting rich... So be it. The created something that millions of people enjoy for a very low cost. They deserve it.
  10. Thanks for the kind words everyone. In regards to the caches holding up, I am confident they are going to. Two of the sewers I used are definitely blocked and haven't seen water flow (other than rain) in years. We have had unbelievable heavy rains in CT over the last few weeks. I mean hours upon hours of downpour and power outages. So far all the caches have held up fine. There was one cache that ended up a floater for a day or so, but all was well once the water level dropped. I used pretty high test line that I don't see snapping unless someone intentionally tries stealing the cache... which I sadly think is far more likely. So far people are really enjoying the cache, especially those who grew up with TMNT back in the day. Parents are saying their kids are loving them and having a really good time. I have very big plans in the works for more themed caches like this, so stay tuned!
  11. I use high-test fishing line on my bison tubes. It's strong as hell, weather resistant, and is practically invisible unless looking for it.
  12. Each is tethered by high test fishing line. There's no real chance of them falling in unless someone accidentally drops the bottom half in while opening it. I hope most are smart enough to open it away from the sewer.
  13. Now that is the coolest idea ever!! As far as the caches I've found that were large enough to HAVE things in them, most of the time it's nothing I'd consider swap-worthy but I realize that someone might want it. I generally leave a few multi-coloured plastic rings, small fun shaped erasers, and super tiny 6-sided dice. I think I only ever swapped one item - a blue Matchbox car. But then again, I'm usually so amped that I actually FOUND it, I don't mind I wonder what some of the best items you guys have found inside caches? I once found a 7 piece screw driver set.
  14. It's not uncommon for golfballs to cost $4+ each.
  15. Thanks to you (and the others that have replied; can't seem to multiquote correctly). Yes, I did figure it would be okay to dispose of an empty juice box. I take it used golf balls are cheap? I did find one today and have found several personal cards. I'd not throw that stuff out. Thanks for clarifying! I leave new golfballs. I go to Costco and buy 24 packs. You can go to thrift type stores and buy 12 for like 3 dollars.
  16. I really like finding geocacher's personal trading cards. Some people make nice laminated ones with their names, a picture, and where they are from. I have a nice little collection going.
  17. My girlfriend went out and found two of them the other day while I was working. I got these in text messages. It put a huge smile on my face.
  18. Take advantage of the lack of surrounding caches and drop a dozen of them all over that place.
  19. I hate finding a cache and have it be filled with nothing but stuff that got found under people's car seats. I don't leave toys that often, I like to give the adults some love too. I always leave a golf ball with my geocache name on it. I am an avid golf player, and with golf balls going for 3 or 4 dollars a pop, I'd be stoked to find one.
  20. Are you checking for anything magnetic?
  21. I big problem I had when starting out was over complicating things. I assumed that every cached was hidden so well that there would be no possibility of a muggle finding it. In time, I learned the majority of caches are well hidden, but very simple. Look at your surroundings and think about how you would hide the cache. You'll find that in time it gets easier. For example, lets say you are convinced the cache is in a nearby tree... You can easily nail down the type of container it should be, there are very few options. When looking in trees, one of the first things I do is shake it really hard. If there is a cache hanging by a string, it should still be swaying once the rest of the tree comes to rest. If the cache is not dangling, I know the most probable container would be a match stick container, a film tube, or a bison tube. I'd start checking in the holes of the trunk or look for any big chunks of bark that are starting to break away. You'll figure it out in time. Don't get discouraged!
  22. I'm usually just honest with whoever is questioning me. It has only happened a few times. Usually people are simply blown away that something so massive exists and they had no idea. Most of them end up thinking it's really cool.
