  1. Thank you one and all . It was good to read the happy ending . I had to share this with my brother because one of my caches came up missing and was returned in a simaler manner . He was the last one to see it before it went MIA . He also was the first to go look for it when word came that it was missing. and strange as it is . the mother of the finder contacted him rather than me when she wanted to return it ? Did he put his name on it ? I wonder? when I told him where and why I was going to place it he bugged me all winter to hurry up and get it placed or he would do it .
  2. Thanks for all of the replies. I guess I should have made it clear what I list in the description and what I Encrypt. But from the sound of it I will keep doing what I have been My “ Bacon Woods “ cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=61109 I gave where to park because you can get .2 mile by following the road but large cliff and privet properties lie between the road and the cache and no parking. From the park it is over .6 mile hike. So I gave the parking location and encrypted the info that would help you find it once you are close. At my “On the Diagonal” cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=34653 the whole area is park land and it does not matter which of 2 parking lots you use. There are trails from both that will get you there. I encrypt the best place to park and give in for that will get you close and help you find it. It looks like the new ones I am working on will be the same. Elyria,OH
  3. I am so glad you asked I thought it was just me who was out of the loop .
  4. I am getting ready to place a new cache. I want your help .I have placed one where I listed where to park and suggested the trail to start on. I have also listed one that I did not even list what road it was on. That one you could get there from one of 2 parks. There are 2 trails that would get you near it although one requires more bushes whacking than the other does. In both cases I gave clues that would slowly give you information so you can get as little or as much help as you need or want. (Example: park on the south side of Central Park, follow the trail with the blue signs, till you reach the bench, behind the bench. look for the tree with the 3 forks) How do you like it everything handed to you or keep it hard with just your GPS to lead you there?
  5. I cache with the wife and kids 4yrs and 6 mounths when we can .If the the weather permits. I also go with my ,dad ,brother and his wife and some freinds . It seams I have the whole family hooked. althought last summer it was a bit odd pushing a 4 yr old up hills and then pulling a 8 mounth pregnet wife up. But the doc said the walking was good for her . When she got tired she would sit in the car with the air on while I and sometimes the 4yr would go.
  6. not all losses are from theft . I lost a cache 3 days after placing it . It disapered on a monday ( it was found sunday evening)I found out on Tuesday and was contacted by the mother on friday. Turns out a kid found it while going fishing . he took it to show his parents . thay did not know what Geocaching was all about but took the time to look it up an contact us about returning it . it was well hidden in a "haunted " area . I was told it was out in the open . the ghosts must have moved it on me .
  7. There was a discussion Listed here that was started by a mother who found a log book in her sons room and wanted to return it . she got married and people donated money to buy the family a GPS for there honisty. where is it . I was following it and now cant find it . what is it listed under or what is the link to it . Help please I must know how it ends . Thanks Etdiver
  8. With all the discussion about locationless and virtual caches are there any web sites that are good for finding them ? are there any that would have traditional caches that might not be listed on geocaching .com ? Always looking for more . Thanks ET
  9. I go to : http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/special.shtml it is on the Buxley's Geocaching maps web site which is http://www.brillig.com buxley's has better maps than Geocaching.com but if you click on the cache site it will link you to the proper page on Geocaching.com . You can see a map of the world and just keep zooming in untill you find your state and some state are broken down in to small areas.for " normal " caches Are there any other good Geo web sites?
  10. I have Vista and my dad and brother have alegend . the map source data is broken up in to groups of just under 8 meg . so if you live in the center of one grouping you will be fine . but if you live on the border of 2 groups you have to pick only one to load . the vista you can load up to 3 groups. the groups do not follow state or county lines so it is just luck exsample ohio takes 5 groups to get the whole thing . one group is toledo and part of MI while the others are evenly spaced covering the 4 corners of the state.the compass is nice but not used alot. If you where to use a laptop with the legend like my brother dose it will not matter . Ebay is the place to buy either.
  11. ny whole family dose it mom and dad are in the 70's my brother and his wife are in their 40's We are in our 30's and our 4yr old loves to go .
  12. I like locationless . Ohio snow and cold kill caching when you have small kids . We drove around looking for locationless caches last weekend and it gave the little ones somthing to look for . I do beleive thay need there own page and could even be separt in listing as found . Like benchmarks are separet from traditional exampale : 50 geocaches /10 photocaches /20 benchmarks.I also like looking to see what others have found . some pictures are of things I would have never seen with out them. when people log the loction of locationless I can go check out the ones in my area . Just my 2 cents worth
  13. As this sport grows we will need to separate in to like groupings to keep the cludder down in serches and on maps . have you seen http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/ lately ? zoom in on almost any large city and it is hard to tell one cache from another . Most locationless in my area require a picture . If you dont have a digital camera whats the point in looking at them .
  14. first let me say I think Virtual and Locationless need there own pages . I want to place a Locationless cache for the following "To quallify you must have a picture of an item that can move under its own power. But is to large to be moved on the road without taking it apart. It must be so big when disasembled it would take a minimun of 2 semis or more. Just a tip a monster truck (like grave digger)is moved on one truck so it must be bigger than that" but it is not allowed because it moves what do others think ? I watched a show on monster mechines on the discovery channel that gave me the Idea .
