  1. For registration you may have to call Garmin and let them know that it's a previously owned unit. As for the maps on the MicroSD they should work fine if selected. The backup won't work because the original is copy protected. I've heard that if your original data get corrupted you can reinstall the maps as long as you put them back on the same MicroSD. BUT... I've never tried it so don't quote me on this one! Interesting...I had a call into Garmin....after 30 min on hold they were gone for the day. Will try again next week. I had taken the MicroSD out and copied it and then put it right back into the GPS. I'm going out now caching so I'll see if it works now, but it has not been working the last few times. There should be no reason for the data to get corrupted but I guess one never knows for sure. So the original MicroSD is protected ?? If there is a problem does Garmin stand behind it ?? Anyone know for sure ??
  2. I now have two 60CSx units. The first one was registered on Garmin's site with no problem. I bought another one and when I tried to register it an error came back saying it was already registered. I will make a WAG here and figure the previous owner had registered it. Does anyone know how to or even if I can register it at Garmin's site ?? One other question....it came with NA maps installed via a Micro SD card. I pulled the card out and made a BU copy. Now maps don't work. Is there a setting that needs to be "reset" for maps to work again ?? TIA
  3. I exchanged several emails with the owner. When I asked a couple of tough questions communciations stopped. I bought one elsewhere and felt much more comfortable. I would approach this with caution, only my opinion, take it for what it's worth.
  4. I agree about age vs use (or abuse). However it seems like all these people list "used" units that have only been "used" 5 or 6 times and are "like brand new", makes one wonder. I just want a neutral gauge for how old it may actually be, did it spend the first 18 months up in Aunt Janes closet or ??? Seems that the used Ebay market for these things is just under $300 depending on accessories like maps, bike mounts, chargers, etc...I would buy a refurbished unit but have not seen any for a while.
  5. I'm looking at serveral used 60CSx on Ebay and I'm trying to gauge their "age". Does anyone have a resource for Garmin serial numbers ?? Or can tell me how to be able to take a serial number and figure out how "old" a specific unit is ?? I don't need to be dead on, but it would be nice to get in the ball park for age ??
  6. Well after looking all this over and re-reading the gpsfiledepot site I came to realize that I needed to convert the Ibycus maps format to a Garmin friendly format. After DL a couple of freeware programs and making the conversion I now have street maps on my 60CSx. I would have to say that they are not the greatest but a very functional addition. Now someone mentioned that Ibycus also has a Topo version availabe for DL ?? Has anyone used it and any comments as to the functionality ?? Thanks for all the help !! matsprt
  7. Yes sir the maps are turned on and it shows them under Setup>Map>Show Map name....with a checkmark in the box for "Show" and under "Map Name" it shows the following: 116w032n,IbycusUSA, Mar2009
  8. Good question, as I had no idea what to expect I guess I thought they would load and show streets just like my car GPS systems do...however they show no streets. I have a large card installed (2 GB) and the maps are installed on the card so maybe I'm not doing something right ?? I use the Ibycus maps on my unit and they work fine for me. What type of problems are you having?
  9. Battery issue resolved...bought Eneloop rechargables and will see how they work. On another setup question. My 60CSx came with the Trip and Waypoint manager but no maps (no surprise). I did try fooling around with IbycusUSA2 maps but either I have installed them incorrectly or they don't work very well for my needs. I am considering getting the Garmin maps and I'm looking for suggestions as to which version of what map disk I want that will work best for geocaching. Suggestions ?? TIA matsprt
  10. I find it interesting that there are such opposed opinions on what I think are the same battery. Other than the label being the same might they actually be different "models" so to speak ?? I have read several reviews and tests that were done looking for the "best" and even those never seem to match. I think I'll just plunge in and try a brand, see how they hold up and if not happy try another brand. I did find this article that some may find helpful. One downside is this current update is not dated. See Below: Digital Image Accessories Review: The Great Battery Shootout That's odd. My original set is over 2 years old and have held up well. I got a second set last year when we took a week long camping trip where we wouldn't have power to recharge them, and they've held up too.
  11. Yes, I was aware of the ability to change battery setting on the 60CSx. However I do have my backlight set higher that your noted 10-20%. I'll give that a try. I'm not so sure I'm dissapointed with the battery life, I'm just thinking that there are better options that just burning through normal batteries like I do now. Are you changing the "battery type" in the setup menu when you go from one to the other? I typically see a day or two of hard caching at least on Alkaline batteries. One thing that will definitely eat any battery is having the backlight on at more than 10-20%.
  12. Hi All, I'm looking for suggestions on batteries for use in my 60CSx. One can sure burn through a couple of normal Alkaline batteries quickly. I have been researching rechargables and I'm looking for input from members that are using them. Who is happy with what battery brand/recharger brand/mAh rating etc... ?? TIA matsprt
