But you could not see whether the cache was disabled or archived. Now you can remove archived caches straight away. Total effort is less with the new version it is just a little different but manageable. Slow response to checkboxes annoys me. I can't understand why it is so slow.

Wrong. Archived caches have been shown in red color while deactived have been shown in blue. And I thought that there's no selection for all archived yet? I believed this just to be a wish from different people?

That all could be done with a GSAK macro. Personally, I have never reviewed my lists. All is done by GSAK (bulk adding caches, deleting archived and found caches, filter the database by list's content). I really do not understand these rants against additional features when the ranting people still not use those features at all. Bullying?

Sorry, but you don't know my workflow so how could you judge it?

It already has been said by someone else... In the old view you could easily see a found or archived cache. Now you can't. In the old view I was able to have ONE page with all the caches. So just going through and check the specific caches was an easy task, took me just a few seconds. Now I would need to have a way closer look to the icons, if they have a smiley or not. Don't know exactly about archived caches yet, might be even harder.

And just because YOU are using GSAK in a specific way doesn't mean that I need to use it the same way. You posted the link to a "delete" macro, nice, but I would never use it. Simply because my GSAK usage model differs from yours. So why should I be happy if a new "feature" simply breaks my workflow? Just because someone had some nice ideas and though they would suit everybody? Sorry, but no, not really ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I don't care about additional features (that I might not use at all), but I do care about things that got lost/broken while doing new stuff. That's it.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you want all those disadvantages (not sortable, no way of adding a selection to another list, etc.) of the old list view back?

Because I'm not using a single of these new features? ;-)

I'm using lists mainly for my solves mysteries, as a proof for challenges I've found and in some cases for caches I want to do at some point. No need for me to somehow sort these as I either don't care after creating the lists or just use them as basis for a PQ. I always use the "show 1000 caches" option and roughly the only new option that would make sense for me, would be an (half) automated check of found/archived caches. That's it. But the only change I would get at the moment is a maximum of 500 caches to be shown and as far as I understood that number isn't sticky as it was in the old lists.

I'm mainly working with GSAK, so I do need the lists just as a prestage for doing the work in there, that's why I don't need all these features. Only deleting unneeded caches from lists could have some more options. That't all I might use in addition to how it works now.

Today we released three updates to the new Lists:

    • The ability to create a Pocket Query when viewing Another user's List
    • Significant GPX performance updates
    • Supporting "sticky" pagination so that each user can select their own default page size from the options of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, or 500. When you select a page size, this will now become your default page size when you visit Lists.

    pagesize.png

We have heard the request to show up to 1000 caches on a List Details page. With the additional geocache data points we are showing on the New Lists, the added ability to Sort List Details pages on all of these data points, and the ability to multi-select geocaches to Add to a new or existing List, we have reduced the maximum page size to 500 geocaches at a time to support List performance.

Sorry to hear that :( I don't need any of these new options, as my workflow simply is different, but I do use 1000 as default for my lists. The only thing that would also help me is the option to checkmark all found/archived caches. That's pretty much it. So being able to only show 500 at a time is a back draw for my kind of usage. I would even "pay the performance toll" if I'd still could get the full list.

  5. Hi!

As I finally was able to active my new lab I've found out that I can download the statistics. I just wonder if there's another tool to make best use of that file. As it's a XML file it's hard to read ;) And I haven't found a program that would show it in a nicer way.

    Thanks,

    Christian

P.S.: I've found a minimal glitch at the Leaderboard page: "Finds per Cache" shows 2,5 and 7,5 finds on the left of the graph. Might be better to use different scales that only allow full numbers.

  6. Hi!

So I just mapped the contents of a list and am presented with a new map. No way to opt out. I really need one specific OSM maps for this as that one has community boundaries on it, which those three that I can chose don't have. This is for a challenge cache trip I want to do tomorrow. Right, what now?

Your other option would have been putting the results into a bookmarklist and do a pocket query onto that list and show it in the normal map :)

They seem to have put the Virtual and Unknown cache size with Others.

Checked that and it looks like you're right! I just gave it a try and I really get Virtuals and Events in my result list. By the way: Events seem to have "other" as size nowadays vs. "not chosen" back then. Just figured out that the 2 other old sizes can't be used for new caches any longer. Guess that's the reason why they are missing in the selction. I can live with that as long as the search delivers results for all the 3 types.

    Here’s a quick note on today’s update:

    • Filters updated on the home screen. We updated the look and feel of the filters that are accessible from the home screen to match the new filters panel that was introduced on the new map.

Technically I'm missing 2 cachesizes: Virtual and Unknown. Besides that I liked the old version of the toggles more. It's not exactly most logical that the search finds BOTH Basic/Premium if nothing is selected ;-) Same with the other toggles.

The geocache type don't allow selection between the different event types and I THINK that I can't find the HQ cache with that search. I checked found mysteries in Washington state and as I already found the HQ...

    APE caches are missing, too.

This assumes they are caching with friends who are log it at the location, and the person with no data logs it later. That’s what I meant.

I guess this might just miss one point: What if there hardly is ANY data reception at the labcache area? In that case no one could play and it wouldn't help to have the option to log in some distance. We had that discussion here with the Brocken Mega, as this takes place on top of a mountain with close to no data reception at all.

So this would be something were some offline capability would be really handy :)

  11. What about putting the labs into the MyFinds PQ? Many of us doing statistics stuff with 3rd party software needed to rely on the GPX files. As these aren't available any longer it might become really tough to get that done. Having them in the MyFinds PQ would make it way easier! No need for much details! A code and date of the log as well as the coords would be more than enough for most of us, I guess!

    That is good news.

Will I also be able to go straight to the map, as I current do 99.5% of the time I open the website for caching?

The normal map still is there and that's exactly what I am using. I don't have any need for the search map as I simply don't really use the search functionality. I'm using the map and my filters are the PQs I defined. Just using the seach function in some rare cases to get numbers mainly. List is perfect then.

  13. Quick and dirty workaround for the moment:

    "Just" use the new search!

Click onto the "Geocaching" text in the upper left. Search for something and on the results page just chose the new map for display! It gives you a clickable map then. Works different to the normal one, but at least you're able to do something as long as the normal one behaves wrong.

  14. 17 hours ago, brendanjw said:

And here are the results of mapping that list, now on the New Map:

Hmm, I'm getting a different map... It's the "normal" map without the left menu. And there's only light flaw: The ruler stays where it should be with the menu being visible. Besides that it seems to work. But sorry, still preferring the normal map and the PQ view. Easier to switch as the menu that for directly is included in the map.

  15. Hi Brendan,

just wonder where the PQs are in your to-do-list? As well as the ability to show more than 500 caches. In my area there are thousands of caches within a few miles so showing just 500 isn't enough :(

I really rarely use filters, I'm relying on PQs that I defined long time ago and that work for me for years now. I also need them to get the caches to my GPS device and not being able to use them any longer on the maps would really kill my geocaching experience so I'm looking forward to see that feature in the new maps.
Until then I absolutely need to stay with the old style!

    Bye,

    Christian

It would be under geocaches. The eTrex 20 has a separate geocaching section/app where you can search for installed geocaches and read the description and hint etc. This is assuming that you put the GPX file in the GPX folder on the GPS.

You need to be precise: The folder's name is \Garmin\GPX

And the files just need to be stored there. That's it!

When we download geocaches (by using pocket query, List or gpx) the description, hint, and recent logs don't download.

Not enough info... If you check the files they DO have the info you're talking about! So you either have a GPS that isn't capable of showing this info or you're using some weird way to send these files to your GPS.

So please, if you want to solve this, get us some more info regarding what EXACTLY you're doing!

I too struggled with the lose of the send to GPS function and it took a few times to get the correct procedure.  on the garmin GPSMAP64 once you go to the download and it asks run save or cancel, you need to click the save button and go to save as then be sure it's going to the garmin and open the GPX file folder.  then  it should show up like all the other caches that were downloaded with the go to GPS button, hope this helps.  A lot better then creating a list and then transferring that list from/to the computer then  to the GPS.

Sorry, I don't think saving every single cache as a file is the best idea ;) Your GPS supports so many caches that you'd better go for pocket queries ;)

My heart goes out to all the seniors who are unable to load geocaches in to their GPS. I too have not figured how it works for my Garmin eTrex20 since the changes.  I’ll keep trying but for now I load them manually just so we can keep geocaching.

It would be a shame for older folks to have to give up their favourite sport because it really is a great way to combine exercise, fresh air and a hobby!

Thanks to those who have tried their best to explain the new process.

Hmm, what do you mean by "manually"? The etrex 20 is new enough to be used as flash device, so you "just" download the gpx file to the GPS and that's it. I think it's just one click more than with the plugin. And you even can create lists and send the whole list to the GPS. OR create pocket queries which in my eyes is the best option.

    Hi Cindy!

Looks like the milestones form the standard statistics are affected, too. As well as the GSAK-FSG statistics who look pretty uggly now, hope they will come with a quick fix...

    Hi all,

We had originally intended to deploy these updates at the conclusion of last week. I apologize for our delay.

This is what is included with today’s update:

    • Premium Filters - We added the following filter options to the new map

      • Premium and Basic

      • Found and Not Found

      • Owned and Not Owned

      • Enabled and Disabled

    KMUIuD2lXkY2-DFLJ5h2VAViYAjUFGR_JqtnpqtEG5hXdkWRoTZJFts6nT8InKdMsoZy5nSx_iW0oMLVsJONWvWYpjwXqwsSjRMOo7bvqBQzGYynGrK4mtXLa0KPAHBqu2mi5-1P

    Cache status filtering options:

    image?w=175&h=32&rev=6&ac=1&parent=1lyidokZ3Q3y2nj0vhW6re8KSC8mLTkcmh2nk2NRYeos

    • Added the ability to opt-in to the new map from the old search results list page

      • This allows testers who have chosen to opt out of the new map experience, and who at a later date want to experience it again to do so.

      • Look for the blue banner and select ‘GO TO NEW MAP’ to opt-in (or in some cases, opt back in) to the new map experience.

Here’s what we are working on now, and will be deploying in the coming weeks:

    • Lists - specifically the ability to map bookmarked lists

    • Multi-select control from the list view on the map

    • Search and Sort by Distance

    Best,

    Brendan

Hmm... Does it really work!? I checked "Premium" only and still have got all the Basic caches, too? Same the other way round with Basic. Still everything there in the results.

More inconsistencies with Enabled/Disabled. Why don't you show BOTH with nothing selected, but both when I only select Disabled? These filters don't work liked expected for the moment, I fear.

In addition I'd like to see "Events" being split up into the differents event types. Makes it way easier to use for the megas and such.

Next up, we’ll be working on continuing to close the parity gap between old map and new, specifically bringing in Premium Filtering options. Following that, we’ll be focusing on lists and the ability to map lists.  Also looking at opening individual caches in new tabs.

PQs? That's what I'm using most of the time. Displaying them on the map and select from them. I don't have any need for this big descriptive page to the left especially as it's showing the "wrong" info as default. Don't care about the activity, would way more like to see the description as default, if at all. The top part with name, DT, FP and options is WAY too big. Same with the used font for the search field. This font even is bigger than the top menu options (at least looks like that!)...

Limiting the caches to 500 sucks. I don't understand which ones MIGHT be missing on the map. As far as I have seen now they could be somewhere so everytime my search gives me 500 caches I don't know if I might miss any cache in the actual view. Bad! I would like to see the closest 500 (ok, better way more!) to the center of the map. That way I at least don't miss any cache too easily.

Besides that I rarely ever use search at all. I have been setting up quite some PQs and like to view these on my map. OR I want to simply see ALL the caches in a region to plan my tours as I usually don't really care what type, DT or whatever a specific cache is. I do them all :)

So for me the old map works by far better than this new one. Sorry for that.
