  1. Hi!

It seems like the app is using the Seattle time zone for the log date, plus staying with the date from the moment, the app started, until you shut it down. A friend extra wanted to play an adventure yesterday, but started the app short before 9am (German time zone) and the labs have thus been logged to Jan, 20th.

Not the biggest issue, but still might be worth looking into.

    Bye,

    Christian

With respect to the issue of being away from home and not having cell service at a certain Adventure Lab location, it is certainly possible to program the Adventure Lab app to allow a user to make their post off-line, and hold it as a pending post. Cachly has this feature.

Then when the user is back at their hotel with Wi-Fi, or when they finally get cell service,  the pending post can be posted. But the post will  have embedded the GPS lat long from the actual location where they posted from, and if that is not within the geo-fence then it would fail.

That's one reason why there is the option of Geofencing to set the allowed radius for playing. I know, it's not necessarily the best option, but it might/should allow you to get the info upfront, plus the questions. Then go to the places, get the answers and as you're back at a place with service/WiFi, answer the questions. Far from perfect, but a (hopefully) working solution.

You never know, at some point the app might also allow preloading Labs...

There are no (more) logs on your TB/coin, they might be all deleted,. at least for the coin/TB that I've discovered. The last log (your log excluded) was"... placed it in Blick ins Kirnautal".

Your warning (If you discover my geocoin from lists placed on facebook I will log a Found and a Needs Maintenance on each and every cache of you. Why? Well, just like you saw my geocoin number on “the internet”, I have also seen your cache on “the internet” and I will log it too. Sounds fair right…) was not really nice and helpful in this matter.

Yes, I'm one of the bad guys (you can put me on the list too), but I never thought that it will make so much trouble. What is the problem, is the price of the coin falling with these logs? Do they have too many calories? Okay, it's always the same, but isn't it easier to ignore them then to be angry about them? To log the bogus-discoverer's caches is disproportionate and elaborate. By the way: I won't look in the logbook whether you're in it. Geocaching has several facets, if this is yours, than you have to live with it, I only have to live with my mistakes.

    Sorry volunteer Sivota!

The "problem" is that most people want to play according to the rules and they dislike "cachers" like you are. Fake logging isn't what we believe should happen at all. I'd bet most of your lab cache logs also are complete fake. 1700 lab caches, but attended just below 40 events with possible lab caches. I don't think you did so many new Adventure Labs already. Plus "Team Account". Smells like fake logging there, too. I personally wouldn't believe a single find of you in person. Ok, possibly the (few) ones with a picture in front of the cache...

Why are you doing such crap? Must be cool to show off at events or such, I don't know...

I can confirm that this isn't the case for the two coins I've gotten logs on. Both of which are sitting on a shelf in my office at work.

Ok, just thought someone might have noted down numbers at a dealer's booth already. On the other side, guessing numbers isn't a big deal, technically. If not done yet, contact GS, send a proof that you do have that specific coin and ask for a deactivation.

I think we should get our money back from Groundspeak for the taking code. We have to lock the coins, which means they can not travel.

I'd guess that these logs will go down in the next days as it's so many discussions going on everywhere, plus GS for sure will take some action, too. So, just don't lock travelling trackables and worst case delete a few more bogus logs if you wish.

There are reports of unactivated codes being activated to. Looks like someone is just using a random number generator to see if codes are valid.

Don't think so, it's a very low number and guessing codes is way too easy, so I'd have expected way more codes otherwise. I guess it's just numbers that someone has seen on the original coin back then. Doesn't make it better. I already suggested to check actual activations vs. this list from that FB group. If such a coin got activated, GS probably just could deactivate it again as it must have come via that list...

I have had several logs on coins that no one else have ever seen - not been to events, or had photos taken - just in my albums! Do Groundspeak have an anti hacking policy?. It is not as though I haven't paid for the Code and icon!!!

Groundspeak doesn't have a real chance to overcome such an issue. How should they? The codes technically could be guessed as it's "just" numbers, no more and no less. And it looks like this also happened. As long as you activated your coin, a discovery log wouldn't really harm your coin, don't you think so? Worst case you'd just need to delete such a log.

I for sure understand, it's not exactly what one is willing to do, but there simply is no other way. Ok, you could just lock these coins and no further discoveries would be possible.

So far all responses have been from Premium Members. Any Basic members care to comment?

Be happy that there are some responses at all :P Considering it's millions of accounts it's anyways just a really low number of people posting here. Many might just not even know that the forum does exist while others don't care and the next ones might not be able to understand/write English good enough to take part...

So sorry that I simply offered you an immediate solution to your problem......
You can choose to do it or not, I was merely letting you know it exists. Personally, I feel like the extra money is totally worth it, especially since project-gc actually listens to its users regarding updates and new features, unlike geocaching.com which unlikely to ever listen to what you want.

Sorry, if my post sounded too harsh, I just don't see an external site as a real solution here. I'd more like to see potential issues solved where they appear ;-) And I also don't want to waste my money to fix just some smaller glitches.

Besides that, thanks for your suggestion!

It should, if there were a version to view that was like that. How the switch is implemented though is up to the developers - the bigger issue right now is having a desktop version as an option.  (and typically if there is both a mobile and a desktop version, there is a link to force one view or the other, or return to auto-sensing; and sensing the browser is finnicky - it's better to either provide two versions optimized for mobile and desktop, or make the page highly dynamic so it adjusts for whatever browser size is being used)

    It's no small task.

That's a different story and I would absolutely second a request for 2 (completely) different versions of the website, but I fear that this is no option as it might take too much time and number of web designers at Groundspeak might be too limited that for. I do understand they go for the highest number of potential users which might be mobile users nowadays. Still just don't like this too much as I'm mainly using the website at home having 2 large screens ;-)

Perhaps there should be a "View desktop version" link so even on a mobile device the entire content of the list items are presented, as they used to be, so the user can decide to zoom in on the page, instead of assuming everything should be restricted to large print for small screens which leaves no realestate for more content.

ETA: Which would also be a big benefit for, well, desktop users. =P

I'm not a fan of the new lists, but this should be something everyone could easily do by themselves ;) All of my browser have an option to show the page in desktop mode. Have you tried that? In theory it should right away solve your issue.

On the initial Search page, just click on either the magnifying glass or the Filters button (if you want to set up filters before doing any search) without entering anything into the City, state, coordinates, GC code... field and that will search the world:

Yep, finally found it as stated in my last post. Played a bit with that now and figured out how to use it the way I was thinking about. Filters to work worldwide as long as I don't enter anything in the search page. Never tried that before as I had no need for it :) Now I know that I still need to find another 8567 virtuals :)

So thanks for putting me the right direction! Thanks to HHL, too!

Today, we released several fixes and feature requests based on feedback. These include:

    • Ability to print Lists
    • Hover text on tabs now includes List names
    • Styling fixes to the "Back to Top" button, Edit cache popover, and disabled states of icons

Just out of curiosity: I would have taken red for archived and orange for disabled ;) More like a traffic light, but that's just personal preference. Beside that: Now they are at least a bit easier to find as both are greyed out.

Still would like to be able to get 1000 again...

It's still perfectly possible to mark caches as "needs archived" or "needs maintenance" and write a reason in your log. Before this change, quite a few people would write a "needs maintenance" log *instead* of writing a "found" log, on the quite reasonable assumption that one log should be enough to log a cache (and possibly indicate that it has problems in the process). I've seen the occasional grognard complaining over this change since Everything Is Not As It Was In 2004, but it's still an improvement.

Sorry, but it's a step back ;) There are many times I KNOW that I need to write a NM or NA log. And I don't want to first have a note that no one reads to get a NM or NA log that I THEN need to edit to have everything in there. Sorry, HUGE step back.

But wrong place here... So that's my only comment on that topic!

Is there a way when clicking the MAP icon to show the bookmark list on the map to NOT have more caches load when moving/zooming and just show the caches in the bookmark list? Is there an option/filter I'm not aware of?

Moving/Zooming works for me, at least besides that fact that it's sooooo slow with a bml of some 800 caches. First thought it's broken. Took at least 30s to load the map tiles after zooming in to the 300m range. But it worked!

  16. I've finally also needed to use the new list version now and it was as expected :( It took me roughly 2 minutes to find 3 found caches in a list with 990 entries. They are SOOO hard to distinguish. That little smiley simply gets lost in between of all these huge icons. My kind of workflow I'm used to is close to be broken by the new lists now.

It's really tough to find already found as well as archived caches in between of all the others and that's what I'm mainly doing when I'm editing lists.

In addition the new lists consume so much more space on the screen. On my huge screen I can only see 15 lines now compared to probably some 25 in the old version. And CPU utilization goes up by far, Firefox takes below 1% if I don't do anything. Just having one of the lists open gets me to ~10% (older Core i5-5300U dual core). Not a real issue for my home PC, but a possible issue when being on battery. In addition the memory consumption seems to be weird, too. Opening that single list seemed to use up ~300MB of RAM, too.

Hope there will be some further improvements!

Again we're talking specifically about the Favourites list which for some reason is treated differently to all the others in that it's not sortable at all. Surely you must have found at least some of the caches you've awarded FPs to.

Usually when I need to refer back to my favourites list, I have a much better idea of roughly when I found it than what the first character of the cache name was, so being able to sort by found date would be a big improvement for me.

Ok, might make some sense :) I usually don't care about my own favorite list. I gave one and that's it. It's a list I'm showing others, but I rarely every look into it by myself.

crs98 is referring specifically to the Favourites list, which doesn't currently have any of the sort-by-column-heading that all the other lists have. How can you have caches in your Favourites list that you haven't found yet?

You could! I received an FP from someone who DNF'd one of my caches. But it looks like this isn't possible any longer.

This can presently be done at project-gc.com which is really the better site for trip planning. You can also easily import/export to and from geocaching.com

Sorry, but that's a pretty bad advice. It cost additional money to use that extra website and we're talking about the new functionality on the official website. I don't care at all if some random website somewhere in the world might offer some nice feature ;-) As the new page anyways has got new features, these would roughly be the only ones I might wait for, too.

It seems that the default sort order for your Favorites list is done alphabetically.  That is probably the least interesting way to sort the list.  Ideally you should be able to sort it based on any of the columns in the list, but if you only had one to choose from, I would probably pick it based on the date you found the cache, with the most recent ones listed first.

please don't. Alphabetically works best for me. I don't even care about found date as I usually haven't found ANY out of my lists. And even if so I don't care at all about that date...
