  1. Absolutely there is a difference. One, there is a cache there waiting for someone smart/persistent/good enough to find it. The another there isn't. Using your line of thinking no cache is as good as one that doesn't exist until that person finds it. Face it. The same scenario happens every day with caches that go missing. You don't know if the cache exists or not until it is found. In this case, it was never found. By anyone. Did it exist or not? We don't know. In reality, unless the super secret insider got his information from the horse's mouth, they don't know. Just wait until you think one of your caches is missing. You take it offline in preparation for a replacement only to have someone claim they found it after you check to see that it's not in its resting spot. It's happened to me on at least two caches. It goes like this: folks put the cache back in a different spot. The next folks post DNFs. A previous finder might check on it and report it's not there. You go check on it and it's not there. You take it offline. A finder posts a find. You question the find as false. They describe exactly where they found it. You follow their directions and there it is. Now you, as the owner, thought your own cache didn't exist when, in fact, it did! Now, let's talk about if a cache that is not found is no better than one that doesn't exist. You bet, I had this happen and ended up with 2 containers at the same spot. A very lucky cacher stumbled on both!
  2. I don't know, I am certain I'll be manning a booth at GW VIII, then hosting a WELCOME PARTY for our guests later that evening. But, I will do my best, my friend!! If you get the chance, come visit me at my Geocaching Journeys booth!!
  3. Or, it could be that some owners expect too much! Some people really don't see the "damage" a tag makes....complaining after the fact is tsome owners' way of handling it. I would choose a pro-active way if I were truly irked by the thought of someone adding something to my traveler. Of course, I'm more open to allowing people to add, it gives my traveler history...ymmv. Give it a bit of thought...you released a traveler. I think everyone here knows that you never release something you don't want to lose...right? So, if we release expecting things can happen (loss, stolen whatever), why do we act surprised or even irked if someone adds something? We're OK with the chance of an item being stolen but I'll be dogged if they "vandalize" it? And really, do you think you actually "own" this item once it's released? Sure, you have a nice page stating it's yours...does this seem to matter to BettyTBSnathcer?
  4. The deal just got even sweeter! I followed TotemLake's link and the Delorme PN-40 is now down to $199. Kind of makes me almost wish I needed one. Congrats to those that get them at that awesome price! WOW, I spent close to double that!! What a deal!! And I see it was voted "Best of 2009"...NICE!
  5. Yep, mines like this as well. I used a system of tacks to coords to tacks so that you need the GPS for a good bit of the experience while also needing to find the markers. I chose several intersections where I would purposely place the tack out of sight, you have to choose wisely or backtrack. The trails are all nicely groomed and I marked any bad spots for safety (holes, ruts, roots etc), but the trails lead deep into the woods and a few spots have the coords leading you to markers that are a bit off the trail. The final is a couple miles from the start, but really only a half mile from where you parked, and I didn't mark the way out purposely. Oh, and the final is a big ammo can, but has a trick to finding it...and retrieving lol. I like that mine has some field areas with wide open skies so we can enjoy the night skies in the completely dark area. These areas have high grass and growth on either sides of the wide trails, giving it the feel of a maze! Oh, and I PURPOSELY spaced my markers so that the flashlights (even a spotlight) couldn't pick the next one up from the one you're at...make a choice! And, some are in less than obvious locations, look high and low!! I wanted it to be a challenge but not impossible...and I think the logs speak volumes as to how it's received!!
  6. GREAT!! Yes, I PM'd you the coin info yesterday, let me know if you didn't receive it!! Don't forget those pictures everyone. Post pics with you and a Todie's Wild Ride coin (any Todie's Wild Ride coin) and you'll be in the drawing for a 5 coin release and entry into the MICKEY DIVER drawing!! Supposed to be another nice day, I may have to go for another nice long walk. There's a great spot of land near me that is actually state game land. My grandpa made the roads going around the large lake that hey, he also made lol. When I say large lake, it's about 200 acres or more. The road around it (actually more like a trail now that the DNR won't allow access via car) is 4 miles from one end to the other and it leads back to the parking area. Across the street from the parking area is a HUGE field filled with massive elk. About this time every year, those elk come down to the lower field viewable from parking, I will see if they're around yet and try for some pictures!!
  7. Sure! Six pages ago, I posted an observation: In between then and now, my observation has been demonstrated to be accurate. I think there would also be a group who would believe that in this case TPTB acted inappropriately and will not change their opinion. There is also a group who would believe TPTB acted appropriately and will not change their opinion. Until such time as additional factual evidence is presented which could cause either group to change their opinion. I love diversity! These two comments are pretty much dead on. It's fairly obvious no one's minds will be swayed in any way, the only thing that could stop this debate (aside from locking by the mods of course lol) would be for TPTB to make a statement. It's also fairly obvious they won't (TPTB), so what's left is what we have here, bickering and potshots. Some telling those who feel like myself that I need to lead with my feet or shut up, some (like myself) telling those people that reading this thread is an option... Diversity...the spice of forums!! Oh well, this too shall pass. Meet you guys in the next "debate"....who's bringing the popcorn? btw, this doesn't mean I'm not still concerned, just that I grow tired.
  8. My thought is simple, if you don't know either way, ask!!
  9. Yes, it would. It seems wrong if one is the type of person who likes guaranteed finds. "One trip. One smilie." It's right when one appreciates a brilliantly hidden cache in a nice location. I appreciate a brilliantly hidden cache in a nice location. But if no one ever finds it, it's hard to appreciate. There's really no difference between a cache that is so difficult no one can find it, and a cache that doesn't actually exist. It's only when someone finds it that he can say "Wow, that was really well done." I can think of one difference....the hard hide can be found unlike the fake. You at least have a chance with the hard hide.
  10. What might be the fallout if GS allows a hoax cache to remain? Then there is another and another. Then you end up with a different even worse problem. Unlike now seeing at least 3 similar instances, I have NEVER heard of a CO faking a placement. I've seen it accused here, but I can't say 100% whether it was a fake or not. Truly, and think about this for a second, if the CO faked the hide, lied repeatedly on the cache page, to a reviewer AND to Miss Jenn, has a history of bad behavior and still came in here and spouted more lies after the fact...what kind of punishment would that warrant? A note calling him a liar and telling him to not do it again??
  11. I always (95% of the time) know my treestands before I go in, so finding them isn't a problem. Often times I'll do a good bit of scouting preseason in new areas looking for potential treestand sites and will mark trees, bedding areas, rub lines, scrapes, fence rows, etc. Having the aria imagery and topo right on the device would be money, but at the same time, I don't want a device which I needs new batterys every 4 hrs. At most, I spend perhaps 8 hours at a time scouting, usually it is more like 3 or 4. Is it possible to turn certain features on and off to help with battery life. ie, if I only want to see topo maps at specific times, do you have to keep them up to update or can you "turn them off"? Like I said, you get 11 hours with the Duracell HD rechatgeable, You get 8 hours off the battery pak. The battery pak (IMHO) would be perfect for you since it would last your while day AND can be recharged...never buy another battery!!
  12. I don't think I'm far from you and I have a night cache. If you'd like, I'd be glad to take you through it any night! Supposed to be nice the next week or two, the nights start really early and we could be done at a decent time! The cache takes a few hours! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...bf-abb92644e4f5 Let me know and we'll go from there!
  13. Counts mean nothing to me, numbers aren't my game.
  14. I agree, there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.
  15. Silly the silly cat. this is this morning after she attacked the heck out of my hands and feet once again. I am scratched up from ankle to elbow!! She's tired now and sleeping!!
  16. Truly, I HAVE thought about what I am saying. Truly, have you thought about what it sounds like to have some disgruntled customer in your office going on and on and on and on and on and on and on about whatever they are upset about but who aren't willing to actually do anything other than bitch and complain? Very tiring and certainly not productive. But if that is what you feel you need to do, then I guess that says a lot. I never said I was "tired of seeing the back and forth" so please, don't put words into my mouth, ok? That is just plain rude. I'm simply suggesting that actions speak louder than words. I honestly don't know why that is so hard for anyone to understand. It isn't rocket science. Sir, either you aren't capable of reading my posts or you're just ignoring what I've said. Either way, THANKS for helping me keep this at top. As I did say, I can do far more than simply leave. I believe I seee this done on a regular basis in our country?? We disagree with Russia or China or Iraq or wherever and we stop sending them money. Does that mean we also must pull our embassy and ambassadors out because we obviously disagree? NO? That's odd.....
  17. I believe also that the difference in using a cable while driving would be the environment you cahe in. For me, I often travel a good distance (most caches around me are either found or waiting for a day when I have little money and the urge to cache). If I were stopping evey .25 miles, I wouldn't be plugging in either...
  18. Lighten up, I already gave my opinions further up, heck I think I even recommended the Delorme I was just (sayin') that no, I actually disagree with TCP based on my observations that actually most cachers in cars do rely on the batteries. Certainly doesn't bother me how much battery life the delormes get, I fixed that problem. Just pointing this out to you. No need for me to lighten up, I think I was on point! We all have our ways of fixing the problem at hand, you chose to buy a Garmin which, when you look at it, only really gave you an hour or three extra battery life? Depending on the battery used, the DeLorme will get upwards of 11 hours on one set! But, since I get MUCH longer using my appraoch, I am happy as well!! Life is good! Choice is good! Telling it like it truly is is good! And truly, I disagree with your disagreement. I cache with only a few friends, but 99% of them actually DO use the power cable when in the car. Some of those are even Garmin users! I suspect the main reason being the brighter lighting for ease of reading the unit while driving...
  19. Then life is truly grand, isn't it my friend! We can all form our own opinions...good deal! If I were worried I were the only one playing the twist a point game, I might think twice about my way of argument. I think opinions can be formed long before reaching this point in the thread...don't you think? I'm just happy to keep this at the top so they have their chance!! Ooops, other pressing business for a bit, I'll be back though!
  20. Sorry. That’s a mistake I make sometimes when the same person keep quoting me and responding directly to my points. As was just stated in a different post which happened to include my post, it is merely a good launching point. Some of us can understand this! Oh, and glad you understood your mistake!!
  21. So this is all what it boils down to then. And this is exactly what I said like on page 2 of this thread. If anyone doesn't like the way this matter was handled then they should vote with their feet. That is what customers do when they don't like the way a company handles their business. They leave and don't come back and often times they try to convince their friends and family not to do business with company xyz. But they don't just stand inside the manager's office of the company and go on and on and on about the problem for weeks. Pardon the expression here but they either poop or get off the pot. It is quite obvious that new information about this particular situation will not be forthcoming. So that means it is up to all of us to decide what to do. Either we are upset enough about the situation to actually do something meaningful (leave) or we suck it up and move on with our lives (like go geocaching). At this point, this thread seems to be more about venting then doing anything that really has any concrete affect. Venting is all well and good but eventually actions speak louder than words. Disclaimer***I am not directing this at anyone in particular here. But RR's post seemed like the perfect jumping off place for what I wanted to say. And I believe I gave several examples of how one can show their displeasure WITHOUT "voting with their feet". Some of you seem to think we must leave if this is upsetting to us. Truly, think about what you're saying. I could stop buying coins. I could stop buying TB tags. I could stop buying my premium membership and FREELOAD off the company I disagreed with. But, none of those means I'm "voting with my feet", just my money. ....and let's not forget the word of mouth thing... Look, if you're tired of seeing the back and forth, the answer has been given you several times. I don't mind ONE BIT staying here and keeping this thread high on the list so anyone can find it and form their own opinion. That's the best way I can imagine to spread my displeasure...the word of mouth thing! Therefore, I believe I need to THANK you for helping me!!
  22. So obviously the CO lied since he didn't do exactly what you'd do? I see......... You can try to twist my words however you want to. I notice you didn't bother to respond to either of my points regarding your post since I was addressing factual information rather than trying to twist words. I stated my opinion and I stated what my personal ethics would be if I were the cache owner. I am not trying to change your opinion or anyone else's. Your ongoing attacks at other posters who do not accept your interpretation probably aren't doing anything to win support for your position. I must laugh here...attacks? I counter the points of others so the comments are attacks? Got ya, THANKS!! I didn't twist a thing, you said this and I boiled it down for you. If you don't like what you said, you can do something about that, my friend!
