It transpires that having parked in a quiet cul-de-sac, got out of the car, dresed in waterproof clothes and hiking boots and walked off into the adjacent park, one of the locals had called the Police to report my 'suspicious' activity. You have me fascinated as to what cache you were attempting in Stevenage - I thought I knew them all. It must have been the Hornet trying to sabotage one of my caches - probably out to get some innocent kids drunk! It was your cache 'Stevenage Stash' (now sadly archieved), which incidently I found OK. However unless your appearance has changed markedly, I'm fairly sure it wasn't you in drag . This is rather Off topic, but if you want the full story email me. Best Wishes Mark

I was going to paste the funniest log I have ever seen on a cache page on here but due to its nature I have decided against it....I'll point you towards it instead.. SEPTEMBER 18TH GeoCraig! LoL. Wild absolutly Wild! Anyway.....back to topic.... -------------------------------------------------------- _One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them, One ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them!_ http://www.buckscaching.co.uk Can't beat that. Although I did return to my car in Stevenage to find 2 Policemen waiting to talk to me. It transpires that having parked in a quiet cul-de-sac, got out of the car, dresed in waterproof clothes and hiking boots and walked off into the adjacent park, one of the locals had called the Police to report my 'suspicious' activity. Turned out the woman was in dispute witht he local council and had thought I was a council officer. It took about 15 minutes for them to sort it out, they were very polite, and apologised for troubling me, but ended up threatening to charge the woman for wasting police time. It could have been quiet awkward, but since I had nothing to hide, and was completely open about what I was doing, it made it easy for them. Best wishes Mark
  3. I voted 2, but the figure varies, depending on which combination of adults and children are present. We never eat or drink anything from a cache, but have removed several remains of sweets. The main reason for not eating or drinking anything from the cache is that you cannot be sure a) how long its been there for and what else has been in the cache with it or c) what else everyone has been touching prior to examining it and replacing it .
  4. I haven't used plastic bags to wrap any of our caches in, and appreciate there dangers. However I did procure from an Army Surplus shop some Camoflage pattern bags, approx 30x20CM (12"x8" in old money ). These are made from good quality material, with a drawstring top. They were very cheap, and should be safe, provided the string is slipped back in the top after closure. They seem to work well, and help to camoflage the cache nicely.
  5. Well Done on reaching the centuary. Were looking forward to doing the rest of the caches youv'e placed locally, only could you slow down abit, to give us a chance Best wishes Mark & family
  6. Phew! Monster score. Keep up the good work and Best Wishes Mark & Family
  7. Just been reading a thread sugesting virtuals should be shifted as well, because of all the virtuals in Washington DC, and the fact that this is of no value to Cachers who all learn American history at school Thread here http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=6770936793&m=7040969055 I did think about pointing out that not all cachers learn American history at school, but in the end decided it wouldn't help. 8. Wow, exceptional work. Very well done. People are breaking 100s all over this forum at present but 200s are a bit rarer. Best Wishes Mark & family

  12. I have used both Nicad and NiMH batteries without problems, if you own a Garmin GPS a number of them allow you to specify the type of battery in the system setup, so if you use rechargeables, the battery meter remains accurate. The cheapest place I have found for batteries is www.7dayshop.com , they are currently doing 2000maH batteries at abour £6 for a pack of 4 Best Wishes Mark
  13. During the last Gulf conflict Selective Availability which at that time was on all the time, was turned off for the duration of the conflict, so I can't see much chance of them turning it on this time.
  14. Sorry I missed this when it was originally posted. Congratulations and keep up the good work. Best Wishes Mark & Family

  19. If I search for a cache and can't find it, I post a Not Found report, with information in general about where I searched. This seems the honest thing to do, as I tend to read the logs prior to searching for a cache, as much useful information can be gained. If a number of people post not founds, then that suggests I think that the cache needs checking, but I think the onus to archive rests with the cache owner. The choice to look for a particular cache rests with me, and reading the logs helps me to make that choice. If I was convinced that a cache was missing, then I would email the owner, otherwise I assume its poor searching on my part. I usually finds that the difficulty rating is variable, and it is better to compare with your previous experiance of caches set by this person.
  20. Number 5 will be me and Isobel Best wishes Mark
  21. quote:Originally posted by Dan Wilson:So has anyone got any ideas as to how many people have joined since the show? I have heard from a couple but not seen too many new faces on the forums Its just a hunt for a lunch box, why be so serious!?! Dan Wilson - http://www.Buckscaching.co.uk I don't know if it's the program or not, but since Christmas one of our caches has been visited by 4 new cachers, although only 1 since the program. I guess some people must have got a GPS for Christmas, and started playing.Hopefully the braver ones may turn up on Sunday in Winchester. Happy New Year Mark & family
  22. Image 10 is Matthew, Facing Saints was the first cache we did! I'm only visable as the shadow. Mark (cone_dxf & family)
  23. Mark, don't give up please, the site has been tremendously valuable for geocaching in the UK, and your personal contribution both in money and time has been huge. I read Tim & June's posting, and understand the point they are making, It may well be that Jeremy etc. are protecting a commercial position, or seeking advice, however to not respond at all is just plain rude. I hope that Jeremy will respond, and rapidly agree an interim arrangement without prejudice to either side. As a final thought, I know you are commited to not chargeing people to use Geocacheuk but have you considered giving people the opportunity to contribute if they wanted to ? Keep up the good work Mark & family
  24. Thanks Tim & June, wholehearted agreement with your views. Now you've sorted that out, I've heard there are a couple of issues in the Middle East that require some moderation, in light of the above shall I put your name forward?
