  3. Many Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. Having discussed our century as a family, we have decided on our favorites, but before going into that, there are certain people we need to thank, for the encouragement, friendship and inspiration they have provided. They are in no particular order Tim & June - you guys are amazing and Isobel loves the bears. Team Nia - brilliant caches, and proof that famalies can geocache together. Team Tate - are we stalking you ? No seriously nice people who we've enjoyed meeting The Blitz family - always happy to help with a clue or hint. and all those cachers who have set the caches for us to find, or who we have met along the way. Now to our favorites Belinda - Otter's Ramble Isobel - Banjo & Barrow Matthew - Night Vision & After Dark Mine - Facing Saints (our first cache) We've had some great times, and we hope to have many more, and we have certainly been to numerous wondeful places we wouldn't have known about without cacheing. Very Best Wishes from all of Us Mark,Belinda,Isobel & Matthew see you again at 200
  4. I use Paint shop pro, as I like the browse facility and resizing images couldn't be easier. I usually resize to 640x480 which for most images puts them under 100K, occasionally they need to be tweaked a little smaller, but in PSP you can lock the aspect ratio, so just reduce the 640 to 630 for instance and the software will calculate the other dimension for you. Best Wishes Mark
  5. quote:Originally posted by wing-co:So which sats are the EGNOS sats? Is it only #33 & #44? And how long does one have to wait to see the magical 'D'? Correct, from the UK, the sats 33 & 44 on Garmin receivers are the current EGNOS sats. 33 is the INMARSAT over the Atlantic, so roughly SW on the Sat display, and 44 is over the Med, so roughly SSE and nearer the horizon. They will only display on your reciever if you have enabled WAAS in the settings. Based on my experience last night, it takes a while for the reciever to acumalate enough data to start applying corrections (several minutes) and then it seems to apply the correction 1 sat. at a time, so a D appears on one Sat. then another and so on. Good luck Mark
  6. Did some playing with my Garmin GPS V tonight. Enabled WAAS, and sats. 33 and 44 appeared, but was only getting a signal from 33, 44 being obscured by the horizon. upto 8 other sats visable, gave an initial 19ft EPE which is normal, after about 7 or 8 minutes, as the unit collected data one by one the sats started to show D, and the unit reported 3D Diferential accuracy, which fluctuated between 6-8ft once all the sats were dialled in. 7. Hi Steve, I think it depends on your browser settings, and the file type, to get the save or open box. However you could change the text to read 'Right click here and chose Save Target as....' Best wishes Mark

Briefly, a troll is someone who places a post on a forum in an attempt to start a flame war or argument. 16. I'm dismayed that a some people can't see beyond the guideline and move on. The guideline clearly asks people not to place certain items in caches, and yet some people insist on continuing. To an outside body (like Forest Enterprise) that can only suggest that there is no point in spending time drawing up guidelines. To dwell on much earlier point, I am fairly certain that part of the charter for Forest Enterprise cahrges them with making the land they manage as accessable as possible for recreation, but not at the expense of the flora and fauna, and without compromising anyones safety. We have now hurt ourselves by bringing an end to our dialogue with them. I'm certain no one would want to compromise their safety by entering a part of Forest where logging operations are ongoing. I'm equally certain that you wouldn't want to disturb sensitive wildlife (rare birds nesting, Badgers) or destroy rare flowers. These can all be done most effectively through ignorance, which will be the case if we do not convince FE that by informing us we will abide by their wishes and respect their rules. If you really fel unable to abide by guidelines for the good of all then we as a group will rapidly be relegated to the same level as those nice people that Dan (or was it Pid) stumbled across recently. 17. Hmmmmm! just testing mine having changed the title. Mark
  18. No I wouldn't eat or drink anything from a cache. It's not worth the risk in my view.
  19. quote:Originally posted by jeremyp:I don't think this 1 April thing is anything to get majorly excited about. They are only changing the signal format slightly. It's still a test system which means unreliable (sometimes deliberately so). Some people have claimed that they can already get the signal so the format change is also not a big deal. ------- jeremyp The second ten million caches were the worst too. http://www.jeremyp.net/geocaching The signal carries a coding which indicates it is a test signal. Garmin receivers enabled for WAAS will therefore ignore it, so although the Satellites will be visable on the satellite view their bar will remain grey as Garmin discount the test signal. Magellan on the other hand will process the signal regardless. I am unclear reading the information on the ESA site if after the 1st April the Garmin recievers will start to accept the data. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably write to garmin and ask, but I'm not sure that in practical terms it will make that much difference. Best wishes Mark

There is an army-surplus place in Southampton, by the Bargate, in the road called "Bargate" - which is around the corner from the pedestrian precinct. Their stocks seem lower, but I paid £3.50, I think, for one of the "slimline" ammo boxes (ie size down from "Hornet size").
