  1. Come one, come all, to the Spring IN-GEO Picnic. Located at Potato Creek State Park on Saturday May 31st. We will be having a variety of activities all day Saturday, and will have a Cache-In Trash-Out competition/activity Sunday morning. If you are from Indiana, cache in Indiana, or have even just heard of Indiana, you are welcome to come to the picnic. If you haven't heard of Indiana you are welcome too, just use the coodinates listed for GCED89 to find your way to our state. Post a note at GCED89 to let us know if you think you will be attending. We hope to see a lot of new and old faces there, and have a great time swapping stories and telling tales. Thanks for the Adventures Gary and Mary
  2. Your situation will rarely happen, and when it does, sorry!! Yes, members have advantages. Is that a crime?? Besides, whether your cache was 1 foot away, or 500 feet is not really that important. I dont really think caches should be even .1 miles apart. I for one think more distance between them is needed. If you do a search on the general area, and find a cahe already there, whether it be members only or open to all, you should look for a different location a respectable distance away. Personally I would try not to place a cache within about a half mile of an existing one.
  3. I also admire Jeremy for keeping the sport "Family Friendly" I enjoy taking my 3yr old grandson on caches. And would like to be able to take my daughter or daughter-in-law on any cache. I carry my Pocket PC with me now to have access to the postings, but I dont want to "have to" read every one I search for. As others have said if you want "adult oriented" caches, please make a new site for that.
  4. There is a thread going right now, started by Indy Diver, concerning a Statewide organization in Indiana. The purpose would be more than social: We need to work with the DNR to keep caching available on state owned properties. We want to avoid the situation that has happened in Minnesota. Thanks for the Adventurers Gary
  5. I strongly agree that we need to work together to make sure that we can continue to use the great properties that the state has. I agree with Indy that we need a STATE organization, but also think that we need local or regional groups under the overall direction of a state organization. I am very close to the Michigan border, so I try to keep in touch with MIGO (Michigan Geocaching Organization). When we do organize we should develop some channel of communication between groups in neighboring states. I would be willing to come down to Indianapolis to work on getting this group going. (Event cache or not LOL) If the spring picnic was not so far off, that would be a good time to start, but it would probably be better to get going a lot sooner. Thanks for the Adventures Gary and Mary
  6. The idea that a 'signature' item has to carry a signature is not exactly right. I have heard of folks leaving wooden nickles and other such items as signature items. The idea is when you see that item lots of folks will know who left it. Thanks for the adventure
  7. If the cache owner has made changes that HE or SHE considers significant then I think by all means allow new logs. For instance: If the old location was in a hole at the base of a tree, and you moved it only 10 feet and placed it in a rootball covered by bark, IMHO it is a big enough change to warrant new finds. Of course I think the owner has the choice of how to handle it. Thanks for the Adventure Gary and Mary
  8. We have taken our 3yr old grandson with us on some caches, and he has a great time. The first time we took him we called it a "Treasure Hunt". He got to help us find the treasure, and we let him pick a treasure for himself. Since then he often asks us to go on a treasure hunt. He is our little mapreader. Thanks for the Adventure Gary and Mary
  9. If you were to delete archived caches from the list, you would negate the good effort put into finding these caches. Many caches are archived, because they have been plundered, or stolen. Although as the system now stands, someone who thinks numbers are everything could keep his stats better by stealing caches he has found. But if you change the rules, the opposite could happen, someone trying to beat a particular cacher could go steal the caches that he had found. Thanks for all the work you do in maintaining these stats, and please leave them the way they are. Numbers are not that important, but it is a nice addition to the caching experience Thanks for the Adventure Gary and Mary
  10. I think that the new way that counts are posted is an acceptable way of pleasing everyone. We have a count that should be good at least at the time of posting, and we have faster access to the pages. All in all a good compromise. IMHO It would be nice to see something like 'The 15th of 55 finds for this user' The '15' could be static and indicate the find #, and the '55' could be updated at each new log entry. That would satisfy most everyone. I use the counts to add weight to their comments, but I also admit that the competition of seeing counts adds a little extra to the sport for me. Thanks for the Adventure Gary and Mary

  12. No I am not using a shortut directly to Geocaching.com. I am using geocaching.com as my homepage, but have never had the problem before. I am using Netscape V6.2 It ia an anoyance, but I can usualy login again and do my editing
  13. We would love to see an event combining kayaking and geocaching. And your area would be a great one to do it in. The Power Island caches would be a good start! Thanks for the adventure
  14. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:IMHO, the two best reasons to becoming a charter member are to support this site and to have specialized queries. I agree with Markwell about the support of the site, and probably will agree about the queries if and when I start using them :-) But I applaud Jeremy for his determination to keep this site ad free. I am hooked, so I suppose I would still use the site, but it is so much nicer to not have them, and the small fee for support is more than worth all the enjoyment I receive from this sport Thanks for the Adventure
  15. When I went to a previously logged find from 'my cache page' it said I was logged out, and I could not edit (add a picture is what I wanted to do) When I tried to loggin from the cache details page it stayed the same. HELP
  16. It would be great if there were a way to find specific kinds of caches. I for one would like to be able to look for caches that are in or near a cemetery, or places like that. I realize it would be more work, but if we were able to search for categories, or size of cache, or for key words it would be great. Just ideas for enhancements in the future!! Enjoy the Adventure
  17. I seek caches because they are there, not because of what IS there. When I find a cache that does not have anything I am interested in, I either take nothing, or take something and leave it at my next find. If I were to be "uncomfortable" leaving it I would not take it. Enjoy the Adventure Dont sweat the little things. Gary and Mary
  18. I thought the counts were very useful, they helped me to decide how much merit to put on someones comments. If the user was a newbie, I did not put a lot of strenght to their comment, but if it was a veteran, I would take notice. The best option I could see would be to date stamp the details at the top of each log. I do like the idea of the counts also indicating what find it is for the person. So IMHO a dated detail with total counts and numered find would be ideal if at all possible
