  1. The Disorganization of Memphis Area Geocachers is about to choose a park to invade and detrash.
  2. Free hats. Never underestimate the power of a free hat. The best events that I have attended were not overly planned. There was no 'meeting' atmosphere. The goal of those events was to get together, hang out, eat, drink & cache or talk caching.
  3. bitbrain at The Pipeline* in Hood River, OR. Chinajack, CWL and the Razorback My Intrepid Night Caching Girls -eStorm and SwampThang (it was about 20°F that night)
  4. Hmmm... I think Laurel is a little out of my one-day range. I may still try to make it, though.
  5. Not an unpopular comment from my point of view. That's the way it should be done.
  6. If you have a .loc file, you can open it in Excel (XP or 2003). Take out any extraneous columns so that you have columns named Latitude, Longitude, Name, Name 2 and Address. Save the file in XLS format. You will then be able to Import the waypoints into MapPoint with very little effort. Good luck.
  7. On the cache page, you'll find a section between Additional Hints and For Online Maps... called Find.... In this section there is a link for finding all nearby caches. This should do what you want without requiring any programming changes. Hmmm... You've been around a while & probably already know this... Maybe there's more to your idea than I'm seeing.

If you're a RoadRunner user, your p[roblem is described here.
  9. You don't suppose this means AOL/TimeWarner is launching their own AOCaching site, do you? They start by blocking access to PQs and then bit by bit they convert the masses to their way of doing things. There will be AOCaching Buddy Lists. AOCaching Keywords. Bright flashy AOCaching home pages with links to -- to -- ummm... Nevermind.
  10. I've got the darned RoadRunner and had just fired off an e-mail to them regarding this issue before I read this thread. Darned RoadRunner... I still get the SPAM that they should be blocking. Ugh.

  12. It may be more of a milestone than a benchmark.
  13. I had a girlfriend (some years ago) who was a Mechanical Engineer working for TVA at the Nuclear Power plants in North Alabama, but that won't help any. Good luck...
  14. Looks like lots of folk have participated on your website.
  15. ...and don't worry when your bug shows up in Tahiti. The way bugs travel, Tahiti is as close to Denmark as Hamburg is.
  16. How long will the race's stats page remain active? Will you keep updating until all the racing bugs have finished or been deemed lost?
  17. You just haven't run into me on one of my over-planned, geeked-up cache runs.
  18. Wow! The event went off splendidly even though there was a cold rain the whole time. I think there were about 3 people in the park who weren't geocachers yesterday. One jogger and a couple of guys fishing. All the sane people stayed indoors. I posted some photos on the Cache Page.
  19. North up on both unless I'm trying to orient a paper map with my compass. Having the GPS map spin around while I'm moving makes me dizzy, but sometimes I like that.
  20. Just strap your bike to the roof. It's only 238 miles from downtown B'ham to downtown M-town. That's like 12 hours riding, right?
  21. Snow & Freezing Rain in the forecast! Dress appropriately and get out there! w00t!
  22. 4x4 Lightning was last seen in Reno, NV -- only 140 miles from the goal. It was picked up by a cacher and is (hopefully) going to be placed closer to its goal. The retrieving cacher appears to be from Utah, though. Looks like 4x4 Lightning might be going backward.
  23. I have a bunch of posts, but when it comes to the main boards, I'm pretty much a lurker. I check the boards once or twice a day and read topics that I think may be interesting. Then I come across the same old crap that always seems to be going on ni the fourms and close my browser. Most of my postings have been in Travel Bug and the Regional forums. Things seem to be much more civilized there. Nothing like Southern Hospitality. Y'all can have fun with your hollering. I'll stick to what feels right.
  24. There is new information on the cache page for the event.
