  1. Well, for one thing, a forum search would turn up numerous posts where self-acknowledged FTF-hounds stated themselves that all they really needed was a blank log. But for myself, I prefer to not see the FTF game encouraged and perpetuated with special rewards like that. FTF seeking causes plenty of angst without putting material rewards out as a carrot. Thanks for posting thus: just planted our first cache and was anxious I needed to get online and spend £6 on a coin to give away. We've put a good assortment of swag in it, and will top up too, but was worrying I needed to do more for the FTF - glad to know one doesn't HAVE to and that some of you think it's kind of against the mood of caching. I was going to put a Disney rosette pin badge in, but child #1 stopped me as he wanted to keep it!!!
  2. Hi, I was wondering if there's a way to show my list of caches on a map - just thought it'd be nice to have it all visible as we travel in and out of the country!
  3. Is it possible to add a map to my profile to show caches I've found?
  4. Okay. Iphone doing fine; bit worried I might need to invest in a GPS with geocaching facility/support for the sheer ruggedness of a specific unit just in case I do drop my iphone ... so I'm tracking some on ebay ... not always sure which come with maps uploaded or not, but will exercise caution.
  5. That's clever, I think I am doing something similar on my geocaching app; I can do an advanced search and limit types of caches near wherever I want to specify. Then I can sae them to a saved list for future; I did that with Paris ones for when we were on hols recently. I can also limit to one's I've not found but as I'm new I like to see the little found icon as they are fewer than the ones left to find!! Thank you for your patience with me
  6. Testing ... think it was LAN restrictions forbidding upload.
  7. If anyone else is looking for a Disney drop, there's a great TB Hotel on the DLRP car park
  8. Hi there, I managed to drop it at a TB hotel just near Disneyland Paris! Tried to take it to Versailles but had trouble finding that cache
  9. Thank you ivhs, I'll track those Garmin models on ebay too! What is a Wherigo? Sorry - new to all this, is it an app worth adding to the iphone4s?
  10. Are you running your iPhone off of PQs when you are out of signal? Like I mentioned earlier, I cache in areas with little to no signal. But since I turn eveerything off it doesn't matter what the signal is, my phone is off. I think iWork's great. I know I've said this a bazillion times before, but the app behaves much better when it's not trying to find signal. Even with little things like dropping bugs. With the signal on, even on full wifi, it can take 30 seconds to 1 min for the app just to open my inventory page. That's a PITA! But once I go offline, that app takes one second to open pages, one second to upload a pic, etc. In fact, even with urban caching, once it comes time to add the bugs to my FNs, I'll go offline for a min to do so. Also, 4g came with the last iOS update. Do you download the caches to the app first and save them, then turn off signal? Does the compass still work with no signal? It's chucking it down here and the kids have gone back to school today, but I'm already looking locally to see where I might go for a cache related ramble on my way to the nearest town/grocers. Sad or what?
  11. Thank you JesandTodd for the reassuring response! Am afraid friends with the gps live in Norwich and we're in the Cotswolds!! I may see if local school has one though ... geography department might well be useful here!! I have the Geocaching App (the £6.99 one) installed on my iphone4s which has been great with some caches, indeed as good as the friend's gps for leading us to a cache, wobbly with a couple of others in France last week. Would you recommend any other apps? I will look at the 60CSx on ebay and see if I can bag one ...
  12. Hi there! Any Cotswolds - Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire/Wiltshire groups out there?
  13. Hi, I'm on a mac and I just can't upload profile photos ... any reason why this might be please?
  14. Having just started geocaching a mere two weeks ago, I'd appreciate a serious and sensible heads up here. I already own the iphone, so I've bought the £6.99 app for my iphone4s as an entry level option. It's been useful so far, and in line with fellow cachers with a gps. I'm wondering whether to try to get a gps on ebay before I start placing any geocaches. Is that fairer? The other question then, is, if I have a TomTom car satnav with coordinates available, can I use that as a gps? If you really think I still need to get a gps, which would you recommend and would you recommend a specialist second hand GC site if there is such a thing, or should I stick to ebay or GoOutdoors and pay full price? Thank you! I'm genuinely intrigued
  15. Thanks Gitchee Gummee, that's reassuring! Will log a visit; also any other visits it makes ...
  16. Hi, only been gcing since Saturday, but have found a tb in the wrong location. 1. Do I need to log it anywhere anyhow? I've posted that I have grabbed it, but not sure if I need to have checked it in and out of its new location about 80 miles south of last known location .. I described it as such, but nothing more, no link or anything, is linking to new location easy to do? 2. We are travelling to Paris from Uk next week and the tb wants to get back to Germany, so I want to find a big enough box in Paris centre or near to Disney Paris or Chessy. Most Paris ones seem to carry a ? Listing - what does that mean and how do I tell which are big enough and easy to find? Thanks for help. KC
  17. Whoops - central OR Disney area ...
  18. I have picked up a TB in UK whose intent is to get to Germany. We are travelling to Paris next week and wondered if anyone knew of a big enough cache or TB hotel in central Paris of Disney area where I could leave it next week please?
