  1. Hello, I was wondering why you recommend the etrex over the Dakota. I am looking to purchase my first unit and these were on my list actually a etrex 20 and a Dakota 10, not 20. I am having a difficult time deciding which is better and if worth spending the money on or since I am just starting out if a Magellan 110, or 310 would be a be a better choice. I know there is a performance difference on the 110 but the others are around the same. I would use it mostly for geocaching, but also have a canoe and a mt bike, so I will eventually use it for more. The etrex includes the capability to talk to the Russian GPS system as well as the US one. This allows your unit to see more satellites than ever and calculate a more accurate position. It uses newer faster processors. Plus the eTrex has far better battery life and the screen is far more readable in most outdoors situations. Hello, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the etrex 20, I ordered it online and hope to have it in a few days. Thanks for all the information that everyone provided, it was nice to hear from people who use the product not some saleman. I cannot wait to use it I looked today and there are 250 caches within 10 miles of where I live. I do not care if they are easy or difficult I am just stoked there are so many.
  2. Is the Oregon 200 a gps that is worth 150 bucks used? There are so many choices with new gps it is difficult to figure out what one to buy. I like the etrex 20 but have also considered a dakota 10, magellan 110, or 310. I am price challenged so I want the biggest bang for my buck.
  3. Hi, I see that you own a explorist 110 and a etrex 20 is the 50 dollar difference worth it especially for someone who is just starting out caching. I will more than likely use it for other outdoor activities, but have a limited budget. I looked at a dakota 10 as well just trying to figured out what is the best way to go and all help is appreciated.
  4. Thanks for all the replies, since I am just starting out in geocaching I am trying to keep my budget around or under 150 for a unit. I have looked at several models and even though there is no expandable memory on the 10 it is color, paperless, touch not that buttons are a deal breaker but ease may make the "treasure" hunting simplier. I like the etrex 20 but to get new is a bit out of my budget. I am currently looking at some new units on ebay that seem to stay in my price range, unfortunately it makes choosing even harder.
  5. Hello, I am looking at purchasing a Dakota 10 and was wondering if this was a good gps or should I invest my money on a different unit?

  7. Thank you for the suggestions I looked at all three and have an idea about what one I want. Another question is there any truth to the etrex claim to 25 hr battery life? All others are around 16-18 hrs,do you lose something with the GPS to gain the longer battery life?
  8. Hello, My eight year old daughter and I am just starting out and I want to know what is the best GPS to buy? We will probably use it for other things, want paperless, good maps and ability to hook up to the computer. I am looking at a Magellan explorist GC, the 610 or Delorme 60 or 40. We live in Wisconsin and I want to buy one that will work best for starting out, but do not want to upgrade in a year or two when we get the hang of it. With ebay, amazon and other buying sources price is not that big of a deal, just want something that is fun and useful. I like the option of a camera w/GPS less to carry around but wonder if it is practical. Any help would be appreciated.
