  1. Voice prompts are not essential, but aren't they the only safe way of using a car navigator, at least when travelling alone? How do you use it safely if you have to watch the screen all the time? Or ho do you use it exactly? I also have the GPSMAP 60CSx and use it in my truck. You do not have to watch the screen all the time. It beeps as you approach a turn and then beeps again as you get to the turn. I keep it in the bean bag mount and sit it on the dash or on top of the cup holders and plug it into the power point. Real easy to look over and see what my next turn is when it beeps.
  2. I tried it, no problems, just went back to the find screen.
  3. The option that I use a lot is the bean bag mount. I laughed when I saw those at the store, but it came in the package deal, so I tried it. Now my 60 CSx is in the bean bag mount more than it is out. Makes it great when hooked to the computer, or if just trying to learn all the features it just sits on the arm of my recliner.
  4. Where do you select the truck option? Setup.. routing..follow road options..calculate routes for.., select truck at this point
  5. I have had similar issues with my 60CSx. I selected the truck option and it helps some. Keeps from routing me through back streets and residential areas as much. Still not perfect but beats the heck out of a paper map anyday.
  6. I have read, mostly on here, that CityS will be discontinued and that the CityN has bigger map sections. My 60CSx came as a package deal with the CityS, if I had a choice I would have opted for the CityN.
  7. What is perfect for you may be totally unacceptable for the next guy. I went thru the same thing a few weeks ago, could not decide on the 60CSx or the 76CSx. Finally decided that I liked the looks of the 60, and went with that one. It all depends on your wants and needs.
  8. I read somewhere that is accurate when you first power it up, after that it is affected by the internal temperature of the unit itself, don't know how much this affects it.
  9. That was an unexpected benefit for me when I switched to rechargables. I no longer worry about using the light or leaving the unit on too much.
  10. Thanks everyone, I ordered the Globalsat, supposed to be a good unit and it was cheaper (under $70) than the other brands. Should get it early next week, just in time for my son's birthday.
  11. vagabond Yes that is exactly what I was looking for, just did not know what it was called or where to go to find it. Team Cotati I believe that is what he has now and is giving him reception problems, and it is not the SiRf III from what I can tell. Thanks everyone,
  12. I just hook my 60CS to the laptop and navigate that way. I am wanting to get this for my son for his birthday, I can't afford to buy him a 60 cs and I am not giving him my 60 csx , just want to replace the receiver he has with a newer one, with the newer chipset.
  13. Hello, My son has a computer in his truck with a gps receiver hooked to it. The receiver is a small (2"X2"X1/2" thick) yellow box that lays on the dash. Sometimes he has trouble getting a signal. So I want to find a receiver that uses the chipset like what is in the map60 csx. We had my 60 csx in his truck yesterday, sitting on the console between the front seats, and it never lost reception. I don't want anything wireless, prefer usb connection so no worries about batteries or recharging. I have tried searching the web but have had no luck. Anyone know where I can find what I am looking for? Thanks,
  14. Yes you can set this up. Hit menu twice; choose setup, hit enter; choose routing, hit enter; choose follow road options, hit enter; choose off route recalculation, hit enter; pick the option you want and hit enter.
  15. I have used my 60 CSx in my truck and it does give text messages for approaching turns, big enough that I can read it and my eyes "ain't what they used to be", plus it beeps for approaching turns and then beeps again at the turn.
  16. My 60 CSx is the only GPSr I have owned so I can't make any comparisons. But it first beeps to warn of an approaching turn with plenty of time for me to prepare to make the turn. The final beep is basically a turn now beep. Is this different from what you are experiencing?
  17. My 60csx came with the auto kit. A removable sticky pad, a permanent sticky pad, and the bean bag mount. Since I don't trust the removable one and I don't want to stick anything on my dash forever, I use the bean bag and it has worked great. Easily carried from my truck to wherever. I even use it in the house, This is my first GPSr and I am trying to learn all the features, I just place the bean bag on the arm of my recliner and can work it with one hand while holding the manual in the other hand.
  18. I had the same problem with my 60csx. Tried 3 times and it failed, I was holding it with the antenna up. Then I tried it with the antenna parallel to the ground and it calibrated on the first try. Birdman
  19. Got my 60 csx here, gpsdiscount. Not much of a deal for just the unit but I went with the unit and the auto kit, seems like then it is a good deal. Got it a day earlier than it was scheduled to arrive, plus a free t shirt. Birdman
  20. I think that is really no different than what a dealer does. At some places a new GPSr might cost $500 at another place it is only $400. It is up to the buyer to shop around. Same if you are buying used. It would be nice if everyone , new or used, sold at the lowest price. Ain't gonna happen. Birdman
  21. Late Monday night I ordered from them also. Just checked Fedex tracking and it is on the truck to be delivered today. Garmin GPSmap60csx. I missed out on the cheap deals a few days ago and this was the best deal I could find. I got the auto package: This package is shipped with the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx and the package accessories just as you purchase it in stores, PLUS the following: Bean bag mount, dash mount, cigarette adapter, City Select DVD v 7.0 w/full unlock code All for around $540 plus a free tee shirt.
