I'm lost!

This sounds like fun, I looked at the benchmarks in my area last week out of curruiosity, there are alot. I'm confused on the scoring, are you going to it as a over all total? If 10 cachers find the same BM. do they all get pionts? Are the points are based on when the BM was placed, or last logged? I think you could have it as an overall, total reguardless of how many logs a placed for one BM. The winners can be the ones with the most pionts not the most BMs, or vice versa. I might be interested in doing this, need to clearify the rules.

Because it is fun! Even when it is 20 degrees out. It takes you to places that you might not of given a glance at. It sparks interst in the kids, here where I live some one did a solor system cache, they found places that where to scale dist. from a the Basket ball hall of fame, we have all nine planets and the sun to go find, this was great for my girls as they were studying outer space when we started caching. There are historical sites, monuments, parks, ect, all begging to be discovered or rediscoverd? We have checked into the parks we go to an a reguler basis and found that one of them as 8 caches now, we did a few, the family wants to go back and get the rest. For us it is great family fun, a great way to intro kids to the out doors. Don't quit on it after on cache, like every thing in life it is the journy not the destination that matters. Look at the places you go on vacation you may be suprised to find one right on the beach or the camp site. Our city is full of interesting and boring caches, it all what you puy into it.

This is'nt one that I placed but one that I found. A bolt, it was one of the first few my Brother-in-law took me to, he laughed his tukkus off has I looked all around, any none cacher would never know it was there. People pass it by everyday. It was great. check E-bay they have Acorn nuts, pine cones, rocks, even a butterfly.

Definatllly snacks, drinks, and all neccasary stuff, like klenex, noses run in the cold. One thing I sometimes do is find the caches I want to do with my two daughters, (7, 5 and my son who just turned 2 on 2/6, he did go cachcing on his B-Day,) is to go out ahead of them when their in school and find it myself, or we go with my brother in law if he has found them. Seeing that we have already found them I can watch them as they work thier way to the cache with the GPS, and we can help them out if they go off course. This way you are realy focased on them more then the cache because you already know where it is. Micros are'nt always boring if they are cleverly disquised lake a bolt or race car, rock? We found one that the thought was a hoot, also micros at mauseams are fun. What we get excited about ones in places we have been going to for years and never new about, Vacation spots, parks, playgrounds. I'm amased at the places people find to put caches? At one Cache my 7yr old put in a swag itiem, then it was my 5yr olds turn, she put hers in and took out the one my oldest put in, go figure? We can't even bring home some new stuff.

Hi and thanks for the advice. Within the Gsak program, I see there is a way to "get data via E-mail" , I have tried this and not bieng very computer litt. it did not work. How does this work? As of right now when I go into my E-mail I click on the file I sent then I save to another file I have created, then i drag and drop into Gsak. I get an error message about porting?

For that reason, a way to download a number of caches in a GPX form. When I was useing the Gsak while not a PM I got the caches in LOC form and not all the data, dist. terr. type of cache, state, when placed, ect. Looks like now I can do all that and more, will have to figure out Pocket quaries today. thank you. The next ? I have is how do you load them. I created a acount did every thing I think I need to, I get to the search page. Now what do I click the ones I want save? What if I want the whole page can I click on all then download waypoints? Where do they go? If I create some now how long do you have to wait for data?

I now have the Gsak program and I am a preimium member of Geocaching.com, I know how to dowload one set of waypionts at a time. I would like to know if there is a way to download a complete page, or more than one at a time. I would like to aviod having to open a million files for waypionts, when I a download a page it goes in LOC, when I go one at a time I can get them as GPX.

Getting files over to google earth isn't to bad, drag and drop. What I'd be interested in is a program that changes the GEOcache file # to the cache name when you download to the GPS or Goggle Earth?

What's the mater with times when I post it is different on the postings then on my PC. about 3 hours.

my kids and some of their friends are going to make a few caches in our area and we were thinking of FTF prizes. I looked into Wooden Nickals, Golf tees or markers , something we could have thier cache name and thier caching names on. All were to expencive. What we came up with is jumbo popcical sticks, embelished with little things like jewels, stikers and other little wooden things like stars, flowers ect. They can put their cache name and names on these. We are going to use pop mini pop sticks for attaching to some of the stuff they put in the cache or on to TB. We feel that a FTF prize should that a prize, and what better prize to a parent or grandparent or to anyone who loves kids then a hand made boggle. happy Caching

Thanks for all the responce. I scratched the Easygps and got Gsak, and am using google Earth to reference my caches so I have an idea of were I am going on the streets. again thanks.

Nice to have another newbie like my self. I too am driving my wife nuts, last night she had to lock the computer cabinet. I guese there are worse addictions.

Thanks for the replies. I have been messing around with it. I made a file so every time I download one I don't get an icon on my desktop. Yet I don't understand why if know I download say 10 waypoints, then later I come back and download 10 more way I can't get them to go onto the same page as the last 10? I don't want to have a page for every time I download, I want them all saved on one page. So it might look like this. geocaching06 1 2 3 4 5 these may have been saved first. then I come back and save 6 7 8 9 10 all on one page not 2 pages of files, all one page. Should I just get the Gsak can that to what I would like it to, alomg with a map so I can have an idea of where I am going as far as streets an parks. and when plan a day can you set up routes to load into the GPS I have sporttrack map. I would like to set it up so if I want to do any number of caches I can do them in an ordely fashion. Lets say I found 1 then from there I want to go to 2 while bieng guided from where 1 was found, so-on and so-on. Sorry for all the ?

I'm new myself found my first one today with my kids. I did'nt know about cahching or I would have started 2 years ago when I bought it for hunting. My new brother-in-law does it, he is into everything oudoors. he brought my 7 yr old last sunday with my wifes sister and one of his buddies who as kids the same age as mine and she came home all exited about it. She as her own log book she is keeping or every cache she finds, 5 now. I myself am hooked not only do I get to do this with my kids, and share the outdoors beyond the sports fields. I also realy get to figure out my GPS, and maybe find some new hunting, fishing and caping spots?

I'v down loaded the EasyGPS program and have no map on the right screen and don't know where to look for one? I also would like to know how you keep all of the waypoints together on one page, I downloaded 2 and ended up with 2 different files. If anyone can help it would be greatly apprecaited. thanks
