  1. I do have the latest firmware installed. It's been several days and the problem has not resurfaced, of course I haven't been back to that particular spot either
  2. I have a GPSmap 60CSx with City Select v7 Two days ago I decide to find On The Border . As soon as I got about a half mile from it my gps turns off. Thinking it's the batteries (even though the indicator showed full) I pulled over and put in a fresh set. When I turned it on the screen blinked for about a half second and then went off. I changed the batteries again with the same results. I plugged it in to the cigarette lighter and it stayed on for about a 30 seconds and then shut off. I drove about a mile away, found a good place to park and removed and reinstalled the Transflash card. The unit powered up and seemed to work fine so I drove back towards the cache. When I got about 200 feet away from it the GPS locked up and would not respond to any buttons, I couldn't even turn it off. Really frustrated now, I drove back to the parking place about a mile down the road and removed and reinstalled the batteries. The unit powered up fine. I decided to go to the next cache and for the rest of the day the unit worked flawlessly. Yesterday the unit worked flawlessly all day. So today I decide to give On The Border another try and you guessed it, a half mile from the cache the unit shuts off again! I went ahead and left it off and found the cache using the hint and clues from the log entries and went on to the next cache. As soon as I got more than a half mile from the cache I turned my GPS back on and it worked perfectly. So I'm thinking is there some kind of weird electrical interference or something causing this? Then it hits me, maybe there's a bug in the City Select map. So I pull out the Transflash card and drive back to the cache, this time the GPS works perfectly. Anyone have any similar experience?
  3. I Just ordered a Palm IIIx off Amazon for $34.00. According to the seller it's brand new OEM boxed. I looked at lot of Palms before getting this. I decided on this one because since I was ONLY going to use it for caching, I didn't want to spend a lot of money and also I liked the fact that it uses AAA batteries that can be easily changed while caching.
  4. For good to bad roads I use an Xterra When there are no roads I use a Yamaha Kodiak
  5. I missed out on the $412 deal so I ordered under the $499 + free overnight + $70.00 Gift Card deal. GPS arrived today as promised. I Could not find the gift card, It appears the GPS was drop shipped from somewhere else so I e-mailed Phil. He responded promptly telling me he could e-mail it, snail-mail it or take $70.00 off my credit card. My Lake Powell Marine experience so far has been excellent. As for the 60csx, I LOVE IT! I'm so glad I paid the extra to get the "X" model, the reception is incredible. I got good reception throught my house and it maintained reception no matter where I held it in my car. In comparison, My legend doesn't get any reception in the house and only gets reception in the car in certain spots. Accuracy in the car and house never rose above +-20ft no matter where I was. Accuracy outside was +-9ft (cloudless day). I had no problem navigating through the menu's doing basic tasks. I was really pleased at the size of it, for some reason I expected it to be much bigger than it really was. Well I'm off to (hopefully) find my first geocache.
  6. Spend the extra money or you will regret it. I bought an Etrex legend a few years back and it is practically unusable for my needs. I bought it for four wheeling but it loses reception under trees which constitutes about 70% of my riding. It's no good for the car because it gets poor reception there also. But my biggest complaint is it doesn't have an external antenna jack, I could have fixed almost all of my complaints with an external antenna. The new "X" models use a new chipset and get much better reception than the older ones and It sounds like reception is what you are concerned about most (as it should be). You need to seriously consider the Gpsmap 60cx.
  7. I was in the same position you are. I was just about to order the 60cs. I didn't really care about the expandable memory. But then I began to read about the SirFIII chipset and what I do care about more than any other feature is reception. And from everything I've read from reviews to actual user experiences the reception of the 60cx with the new chipset is MUCH better than the 60c. That alone is worth the extra $100.
