  1. So, I'm trolling an old thread here. Is Wherigo still an official Groundspeak App? I doubt I'll be playing Wherigo on anything but an iPhone, if at all, but the app hasn't been updated in a year. Either it just works well or the Dev has abandoned. The app only has 5 reviews in that year. Should a guy new to Wherigo jump into the game, or is this a dead idea?
  2. My head is in this at the moment, so I'm gonna go free form until my self diagnosed short attention span gets the better of me. I can guess at good reasons why Waymarks shouldn't add to the cache count, but It seems sensible that a secondary count that shows in tandem with your cache count on relevant pages would potentially achieve the same purpose. That way every time a cacher looks at his count he'd see a zero Waymark count next to his awesome Geocache count. No self respecting nerd could resist raising the number up then, especially because it's so easy to do.
  3. Thanks! 4,000+ finds... Chilehead sounds more like a Geocaching machine.
  4. Good point. I think WM could, maybe even still should take off like wildfire with some added user experience or accessibility. I mean, I'm a dabbler in the hobby, to be sure, but so pay to support it and when I'm in the mood, it's the funnest thing around. Waymarking could be bigger...or maybe I'm just a dreamer who arrived too late in this game.
  5. So, is this app official, or semi-official site? I mean, since Chilehead has 100 finds for every one of mine, I can't help wondering. Forgive my questions, I just don't like logging in or granting permissions to a mobile site without a little due diligence.
  6. chilehad, or chilehead? I really need to check out this app! That should be: http://chilehead.us/wm That's what I get for typing on my phone during a meeting. Thanks! I only explored the link a little so far, but I appreciate the link. Still, if this is exclusively a mobile website, it just reinforces my point, (or at least, I think it does.) Because Geocaching has become duch a successful subculture, I can't help thinking that more user friendliness is about all Waymarking needs to grow rapidly. That's just one opinion, but I'm curious what others might think about that.
  7. Excuse my error correction, this should have been titled "Waymarking App"
  8. I can't help thinking that a Waymarking app of similar use and function to the geocaching app would significantly boost Waymarking popularity. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought if it, but with the popularity of mobile devices, it seems like a "no brainer," especially since mobile net access is exceeding desktop access. Please forgive me if this is an old topic. The mobile forum site has no search function. So, does anyone have insight?
  9. Congrats. That's awesome. I have to assume some part of your bodies must be sore or blistered after a run like that.
  10. The impression I got after looking into the reason I originated this post was that the person may have taken a trip, searched out a large number caches over the course of days or even weeks and then logged them all after they arrived home. This is all guesswork on my part, but if that were the case it doesn't come off as impossible. I'd have to call that scenario legitimate. I did the math too, and since these caches all looked unlinked in any way other than being near the highway, there is no possible way to hunt them in one day. I think the guy is just intense and wanted to make the geocaching most out of a multi-state road trip. I can't say I'd ever do the same thing myself, but it does have a fun and adventurous sound to it. The person owns caches in more than one state too and according to his stats, up until that day he did 800, his caching rate looked normal and had taken a few years. It has been an interesting discussion in the end though. Thanks to all for the input.
  11. Were the logs all in one location? IE...all in Nevada, the now archived ET power trail? Or were they from all over the world? That would be a sign of a bot. Your question prompted me to look a little further. They are all apparently along one route and are separate caches with separate owners. I have to assume they are legitimate or at least cleverly faked. I think the guy just made a long trip and decided to do an impressive number of caches along the way, then posted them all in one day. Had I looked into it better before I probably wouldn't have bothered to post here.
  12. "Grown" is debatable for some. I have to assume that it has also degenerated to some degree then, but it certainly does appear to be going strong and holding it's own.
  13. I'm newly returned to caching. The individual looks to be quite a traveler so it could be one of these power trails?/trials? that you're referring to. I was previously unaware of these. Thanks for the answers. Geocaching has apparently grown in concepts since I last paid attention.
  14. I recently ran across a geocacher who logged 800 cache visits in one day according to his statistics. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I assume that he has just been saving up caches and the game as I understand it is essentially on the honor system anyway, but is this not rather odd? I'm just curious what other thoughts people might have on that.
  15. This being my first forum post, I came to the forum looking for a creative way to remedy the fact that I am one of the guilty parties. I found a TB a couple of years ago with my little one who proved to be too young to really enjoy geocaching yet. We recently picked up the hobby together again and when I logged in I realized I had forgotten and lost a geocoin in my inventory. I posted a log and wrote to the owner apologizing and offering to buy him a new one or make amends somehow, but he has apparently dropped geocaching for the time being. I have kept the TB in my website inventory in case I run across the coin and can put it back into the wild. I'm inserting the post here for no real reason other than to say that I have gone looking for TB's with my son and the first three caches we've looked at had no TB though it was listed on the inventory. I think the idea of posting a log on the TB page is good. At least it gives people hunting for TB's notice that it isn't really in the cache. I would hate to think that this idea would eliminate my own ability to log bugs, but maybe some sort of geocacher rating system would help. Maybe TB owners could have the ability to rate geocachers and negative ratings could suspend the cachers ability to log TB's. This idea seems problematic for a number of reasons. It would be hard to administer and may breed hostility in a cacher. I can almost imagine some cacher going out and taking TBs out of circulation to be vindictive. The concept is definitely flawed but maybe this is the seed of a better idea. I hope this post is somehow helpful to the problem. I hate the fact that I am one of the guilty cachers.
  16. Woops, I posted a new category idea before I noticed this post too! Maybe these ideas will get some attention as time goes by. Sorry if my suggestion was ill timed though. Thanks for all you do Jeremy and staff Papa Chanoli
  17. I think it would be nice for us Bass Fishermen/Geocachers/Waymarkers to have a place to log where and when we catch medium sized to big bass. It could easily grow to be a valuable database for anglers. Of course, most anglers will still keep their favorite spots clandestine, but who can blame'em? Thank you Papa Chanoli Practice Catch, Care, Release or was that Catch, Care, Fillet?
