  1. Hi San Diego, I am comming to San Diego for a Day trip on Dec 18th with my 4 and 7 year old. I was wondering if you could recommend 4 or 5 caches that would be kid enjoyable and maybe in a neat location? Thank you, Jake
  2. How about a hint on where and when? Lower Colorado covers a lot of distance. I'd be interested and if this is published in CA then I might easily miss it since I live in AZ. I am looking at doing this event in the Spring/Summer when it is a little warmer down here. March/April would be Ideal but Also thinking June/July (very Hot though). We will Launch into the Colorado River in Blythe, Camp at one of the Boat In Tent areas along the route, and Finish the trip at the Imperial Dam. I would like to make it all the way to Yuma to take out but it is treacherous around the Imperial Dam and I haven't researched how long a portage would be. Total Trip will be around 76 miles. Rivers avg current is 5 mph. Currently I am helping Organize the Yuma Mega Event #11 GC47GKW http://coord.info/GC47GKW Once that is well on its way I will organize the Colorado Canoe Trip.
  3. Thank you, Sounds like the event should be a 1/5 based on discussion and looking at some of the caches along the route.
  4. So, If I made the camp site GZ and the launch point for the canoes as a Waypoint, the difficulty to get to GZ would be more difficult and justify a slightly higher Difficulty Rating? I am not looking for a 5/5 I just want a rating so when people take a quick look they know this is more than the typical Event, although the name should serve the same purpose.
  5. Its an event so its not for the sole purpose of caching There happens to be several caches along the canoe rout that range from 1/1 to 3/4. A few are canoe in only. The camping spot will take a little strength to get to as you either portage 100 yards and then canoe down a tributary (Hope my vocab is correct) or as you go down the river, at one point you have to make a 180 degree turn around a peninsula and then paddle upstream against the current until you hit the secondary stream/tributary with little to no current. Sorry Pup, I didn't see you edit your post to account for the Event part of my original post...
  6. The 2014 Yuma Mega Event is quickly approaching. Visit the Event Information Website at My linkFor more information. Last years event was a blast pulling in over 1100 geocachers in order to be the first Arizona Mega Event. This year the event has introduced a new "Youth Activities" area and will take place in the Beautiful "West Wetlands Park" on the Colorado River. This is a large park and wetlands restoration area in Yuma, AZ. It is sure to be a wonderful event for all. Hope to see many cachers from around the West and South West. Last year we saw cachers from around the country and from several different countries attend.
  7. I am looking at organizing a Over Night Canoe Down the Lower Colorado Event and am wondering what the D/T should be. Because it requires camping gear and a Canoe I am guessing a T of a 5. Their is no rapids in the area the trip/event will be but it has swift moving currents should you tip. You have to pack your gear on your canoe/Kayak and tack it with you. Would this type of event Justify a 5/5 ? I am debating between 3/5, 4/5, and 5/5. Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. My Goal for 2014: Create a Canoe Down the Lower Colorado River Event and have a decent showing of at least 10 other geocachers.
  9. He IS new...he is waiting until the weekend... Give it a week..
  10. The problem in this situation is not Land Managers rights to have a cache archived. We all agree that is their right. The issue is where a geocaching group wants to set up a trail and when CO's are not willing to happily archive their caches, they run to the Land Manager, in this case apparently a board member of the group, and has them do the dirty work. In this case it would go a long ways for the Land Manager to recuse him/her self for conflict of interest and have a higher up review the situation. I was glad to see at least 1 side is trying to mend fences though.
  11. Sounds like fun, Count me in.
  12. So, I think my question is along these lines. I hid my second Cache recently which has received well remarks. It is a field puzzle with 1 lock and 1 cryptex. Clue gives the direction to both combinations for a quick/easy open. As I read through the logged finds, 2 cachers logged a find but wrote the following: Cacher 1: Thank you from "Removed Name". I am traveling the USA in an RV on a fulltime basis and cache along the way. Could not open lock. Cacher 2: Never opened and SL . Hate locks TFTC The cache is placed in a very nice location and I custom built the containers and cryptext. Major part of the experience is opening the container and seeing the Cryptex I made. It took a lot of work and planning. I usualy go by the saying, We all the the game differently. I am considering sending these 2 cachers a message saying they did not meet the requirements for a find, please post the "Found Log" onceyou have opened the container and signed the log. If you have a disability that prevents you from opening a combo lock, please let me know otherwise the found it logs will be deleted in 2 weeks. Thoughts?
  13. Its one of my Favorites in Yuma. I had a friend with me one day when I went to drop off travel bugs and he said "What are you doing? We are going to get arrested." Had to tell him its a GeoCache.
  14. Can't wait to read the book. I like the idea of you creating book specific caches and getting them published the same day your book is published. Perhaps it could turn into a series with a signed copy of your book for the FTF?
  15. I have searched the forums a bit and did not find this topic, allthough their is a nice thread "cool cache containers". My family (Boys especially) love large containers filled with SWAG. What is the largets cache you have discovered? In my home town I came accross: http://coord.info/GCNWBC Very neet travel bug hotel.
  16. That is the type of caches I like to find, unique, effort in the build, worth wild to get.
  17. This sounds like a cache I would like to find.
  18. I have the same problem with the Iphone 5. I am leading towards a phone issue as I think its GPS stops. When I turn the phone off and back on, the gps starts working again.
  19. I wonder why I pay for a premium membership if there is a back door to logging premium member only caches? I have not researched enough to find out in non-pm can search for pmo caches or not but if thier is a way to log em I am sure their is a way to search for them. I have a number of custom caches I am building wich will go as PMO due to the fact it gives them a slightly better protection from being damaged or stolen. I don't think it is a question of cheating or eroding the game only that if GC wants to make a special membership it should only be for those who pay for it. When my son is a bit older and can log I would happily buy him his own PM. If he can search and log PM caches why would I purchase one?
  20. You could purchase a premium member account..just a thought if you want to do PM caches.
