  1. It is a fun "personal" challenge for sure and when I saw that in the 'states I would have to travel more than 1500km to find the one I am missing I became quite focused (my lovely lady would say obsessed) on getting that last very hard one in South Africa. Some of the places I have been so privileged to see are beyond description, and the folk along the way are equally fantastic.
  2. I read all this with a wry smile knowing that if I set up instant notifications on my phone I would probably be sleeping on the couch! The "Boss" already thinks I am obsessed - we of course know that however! So I guess I will still be relying on luck and long climbs.......
  3. Sawasawa - jeesh you slipped that in quietly..... and we were with you. Well done. Also outstanding achievement Battlerat and pussycat - excellent stuff - onwards and upwards as ever.
  4. Thanks for the good wishes everyone - an amazing journey - the best part..... it is not yet finished!
  5. Well done Ipajero - a truly inspiring achievement. It was privilege to be with you in Lesotho - talk about quiet competence.......
  6. Great Kudos to AndyT1 - the focus was kept. Now I need one more.....hmmmmm!
  7. Wow - okay - have never posted a question here so....... in keeping with my caching name: One thinks of many things related to the Zambezi river and not at least the "Big five" What other fearsome beastie could be included to make it the "Big six" It could be hunted, and has been recorded over a surprisingly wide range but does not occur over the length of the mighty river. It certainly can be dangerous. Not that many folk have seen one. You probably do not want to see one......
  8. This likely has nothing to do with it but in my youth.... I was one of the first guys to do hang gliding in Zim just after it became a sport in the 1970s. My harness was attached to the hang glider (A highway) by a single bolt and nut. We called this the Jesus nut since we said a prayer to it before each flight hoping it would hold!
  9. Outstanding, amazing but strangely compelling..... would love to try all of that if I was younger, stronger, etc etc.....
  10. Thanks guys - having the best fun ever and staying fit and keeping the grey cells ticking over. Best of all - the friends along the way!
  11. Well done Tom - keep on trucking!
  12. Congratulations to Terunkie reaching 500 on Judas Peak with us yesterday and to Paddawan reaching 1200 on Mybergs Waterfall Ravine also with us on the same hike. What a great day and a privilege to be with you guys on you milestones! Many more to come me thinks.......
  13. Mybergs Waterfall Ravine Hi All, So this hike is on and the plan is this: Meet at Constantia Nek at 05:45 and then we will arrange cars and lifts to combine transport. Parking will be at the end of Farriers Way ( S 34°00.575 E018° 22.745 ) to start hopefully at about 6am or shortly thereafter. There is not that much space here to park which is why we will combine transport from Constantia Nek. We will leave one/two vehicle/s at Suikerbossie to get a lift back to Farriers way. This then avoids the long contour path part of the walk which is a bit boring. The temperature is set to peak at 27C which is about perfect with mild wind. A bit of rain today should clear by this afternoon. Bring your own liquid and food. Sunblock and good shoes/boots. Guide books say 6 hours - Capedoc did it in under 4hrs but we all know Capedocs pace. We will be early for the Disas but happy to do a second trip in a month's time when they should be out. So far it looks like the following are confirmed: Phil Gargan Phil Wright (and thunder?) Adrian and Inge Lawson Patrick Lawson Janice Duncan-Browne Chris Foreshaw Ralph Da Costa ? Andy Taylor? Mark Budd? Shane Budd? I am away at an audition this afternoon but will be home this evening. My contact is 0828645080 or 021 - 786 1039 or zambesiboy@gmail.com Cheers Phil
  14. Well done MnCo - downhill run now to the major milestone......
  15. Danie - I have such huge respect for the stats you provide - truly amazing dedication - well done and thank-you. All the best for 2012.
  16. Trev - the second hint is a big fat hint - difficult to be more open than that without just giving you the answer. Had a long chat to Andy after he had logged and yes he did solve it entirely as I intended. Difficult to assess one's own puzzle I know but there are no obscenely special skills required. Yeah I appreciate now that it has been solved hints will leak out but I am happy with that - after all I like most, enjoy logs on my caches.
  17. I have done Orpheus - great fun - may come along to watch others have the same fun. Would love to give 12 o'clock a go..... I will keep in contact with Ralph to see if the weather clears a little. The scrambles that come to mind would not be safe in this weather....
  18. Wow Henzz - you are scooting along - congrats and many, many more!
  19. Thanks to all for the fantastic hike yesterday - and in particular to CapeCCR and his cool calm help to some of the ladies who found one or two bits a challenge. What a great way to see out 2011. An album of pics are on FB hope that lets you in - if not my facebook name "Phil Claire Gargan" Happy New Year and all the best for safe caching with no DNFs.
  20. Another Traverse....reverse trip is on the go. Participants include so far: Paddawan, AndyT1 both who have done this before, Zambesiboy, and two muggle climber friends from NZ. Anyone is welcome to join. We meet just before 6am at the Kloof neck carpark (just at the start of the "pipe track". We will also be doing Kloof corner medium and Kloof corner difficult before ascending to the restaurant for a beverage and then descending in the cable car. If anyone wants to join you need to be self sufficient with plenty water and a snack or two. Further details can be obtained from me on 021 786 1039 or 082 864 5080. This should be the perfect end to a great year of caching.
  21. Andy's new diving site series....... To those who may not realise - and because Andy is the modest chap he is...... I would just like to point out that all the magnificent photos that accompany this great series are taken by Andy himself. What an achievement and he can be truly proud.
  22. Bummer - just been called for work on Sunday - this was always a possibility but jeepers - I have only just started getting my butterflies to fly in formation...... Ah well have a great hike folks look forward to the stories.
  23. I am still keen for Saturday - if the weather plays the game and even would be still up for it if we only did Traverse reverse. Hoping the weather may still clear though......
