hehe, that's great, there's even an opportunity there for us to go into business with a nice profit margin. if we can buy them for $299 then sell them for $459, it's a nice day's work i wonder if he's thought about the concept of dropping the price more, then selling more, then making more profit!? d.

i went to crazy clark's and another discount store yesterday and bought a bunch of things to place in caches. you can get quite good things for only a $1 each, such as padlocks, screwdriver set, etc. i would've bought a few cheap games/toys for the kids visiting caches but they didn't have much in that department that would fit inside a cache. aa batteries are great too. i'm not too fussed about what i find in caches - it's about the adventure d.

has anyone found a place to get ammo boxes in australia - queensland even. i have been reading the forums a bit and it seems people really prefer a cache to be contained in an ammo box. has anyone sourced these? thanks, new, but hooked, geocacher d

hi all, i went ahead and purchased the garmin etrex. i am for sure going out to find my first geocache this weekend. i rang around a whole bunch of places to try to get a good price. johnny appleseed sent me a really good email, but when i spoke to them on the phone, they weren't so pleasant. i think the lady i spoke to was having a bad hair day. she wasn't willing to negotiate a better price than $299 at all. michael at olbis at ipswich rd, rocklea was very helpful. i got it for $299 plus a free case. he also checked for any updates while i was in the store (i asked him to). he also explained about different datums, etc. and was generally very helpful. interestingly enough even brisbane carsound now have the garmin etrex, but their best price is $329. i talked them down a bit and they said they could do it for $303, which is their cost price. a few other retailers said they couldn't even buy it for $299. i would've liked to pay a lot less and get it from the US, but when you add US$40 shipping on top of the unit (what some places were asking), plus the possibility of tax when it comes into the country, plus the risk, i thought it was better to go somewhere local. thanks for your help and i'm very excited to go and find my first geocache this weekend ) d.

You make a very good point. I found these comparisons for the etrex: http://bizrate.com/Garmin_GPS_eTrex_GPS__cat_id--11210000,prod_id--5000470,de_id--325,pos--2.html It shows amazon has the lowest price at US$99, this converts to AU$177, which is much different to the lowest Australian price I have found at $299 at Johnny Appleseed. Of course, I haven't included any shipping fees. Unfortunately Amazon don't ship electronic goods to Australia though, and as I'm not venturing to America anytime soon, I'm not sure how to go about getting a GPS from America... Does anyone have any ideas? I would like to save $'s if possible. I would also prefer to get the garmin venture. When coverting Amazon's price to Australian dollars it's about $270 Australian dollars. Still less than the etrex in Australia for $299, which I was prepared to pay.
