  1. I need to add my two cents about this checker.  First of all, I like it and feel it will make it easier for people to make mystery caches.   However, I do feel the need to keep those "other" third party checkers.  There is functionality in those already mentioned that would be missed and makes some mysteries just a bit more mysterious. :)

What I really don't like about this checker and I'm sure was mentioned before, is the need to continually click the reCaptcha to prove I am not a robot.  It is fine for one or two puzzles but the other day I was working on solving a geo-art.  The more puzzles I solved the more 'games' I had to play with the reCaptcha.  Pick all the boxes that have cars.  Pick all the boxes that have street signs.  Oh, you missed one, play it again.  It became a very time consuming process to verify the coordinates so I gave it a rest.  If I haven't clicked away from the geocaching website why must I play all these games just to find out whether I have the right answer of not?  They were each a new geocaching page and I only entered the coordinates one time but had to play these extra games every time.  I just want to know if I got it right or not, not spend time clicking cars and street signs.  (I did not keep track of how many I had solved before the need for extra verification began)

  2. I agree these are good suggestions.  I would also like if you used the search criteria to just view "My finds" if it could map all of them.  Currently it can only do first 1,000 and when checking the box to add all of them to a list it only returns 1,000 to the list.  So still need the My Finds PQ to get ALL of your finds in one file.  The new search does know how many I've found, it just can't show them all to me or add them all to a list due to the 1,000 cache limit.

The Current month is there on  the "Finds Per Month" histogram - hover the mouse over the rightmost column, and it will tell you the value for the current month.

The current year figure is there under the "Yearly Breakdown" section, at the bottom.

That's cool.  Did not know you could do that/view that way. :)  Thanks for the tip.

  4. Just bringing this back to the top.  Can we please get a tab for Announcements posted by the CO when using the "View Logbook" feature on the cache page?  This would be especially helpful on a cache page such as GeoWoodstock 2018 (GC5AX15).  There are currently 3635 logs and 3 announcements.  There is no easy way to view these.  Would love to just click View Logbook and have the added tab of Announcements for easy viewing.  I could scroll through 3635 logs looking for them but that is not very intuitive.  I could also page down to the end then use CTRL+F to find them but again, not very user friendly and very time consuming.

Yes, how did you do this?  How do you get the search to return only archived/disabled caches?  I can't find that parameter in the search filters.

Compare the urls.I added the parameter &e=0 (ie: show caches that are not enabled)

Hans, this is brilliant!!  Thanks for sharing this tip.

Now, can you figure out how to view archived caches I haven't found?  I currently use Project-GC for that but if you could do it right on the site that would be awesome.

  6. You know what I want to know?  Regarding the cache in question, is it even in place anymore?  The last finder said they threw it on the ground and ran.

I would have just mentioned it in my log but that's me.  I agree with kunarion, wasps are just a part of geocaching.  Once you've encountered that situation in that kind of hide you'll be more careful next time.

  7. I'm sure I'm using the same app as Team DEMP and love it.  When it was announced the Classic app was being retired I switched to a 3rd party one immediately.  The one I chose had a very low learning curve as it was similar to the classic one. The 'new' official app, at time of its release had minimal functionality and thus, a lot of complaints.  It couldn't do half the things of the $9.99 app.  I will admit it has greatly improved since then but the one I use is still better. :)

With the addition of updated coords, cache notes, additional maps and offline functionality to the official app I would now recommend it and I do use it occasionally.  Versus a GPS it wins hands down, IMO.

  8. In the past I was able to search for archived caches using the GC code when starting the search from the box at the top of the Recently Viewed Caches list.  It seems to no longer be working and I can't search for an archived cache.  I need to go to the users profile and find it that way.  Is any one else having this problem?  There is no way for me to now search for an archived cache by GC code?  Is there another way?

  9. It would be nice to use the "view logbook' feature on the cache page and have an additional tab called 'announcements' that would filter all the logs to just those.  It already creates a tab for all logs, your logs, and your friends logs so why not one for announcements for easy viewing.  An example of the need for this is when you decide to log a Will Attend on a mega event.  You will receive an e-mail of any announcement once you've logged your Will Attend.  However, it would be nice if you could see all the announcements that were made prior to your Will Attend log without having to scroll through all the other Will Attends in search of them as there may be a couple hundred to scroll through.  It would be handy to see them all in one place.

  10. I'm going on a cruise in the near future and see there are zero caches at one of the ports.  I was wondering, if I set up an event and no one came, is it still a valid geocache for me to log?  Just curious if anyone else has ever done this.  It would be great if someone attended but looks like the there are few geocachers in this area.

  11. I just finished this trail in August of 2016 and got a coin and know others who finished in March of 2017 and also got a coin. It's a beautiful trackable geocoin and was a nice reward for finding all the caches. The 'trail' is very well maintained and has been up since 2009. Any maintenance problems are addressed in a timely manner. It may not be an 'official' geotour but in my experience so far with those, this one has a much better maintenance plan. It is very well done and highlights many great places in Delaware. I highly recommend it. You can probably contact the Delaware department of tourism for more info or just type in Delaware Geocaching Trail in your favorite search engine, download a passport and your ready to start finding caches and collect code words. They also have a beer wine and spirits trail as well in the same vein.  Passport/code word/prize so you might want to work on that one as well while your finding caches. :)

Edit:  I see Rock Chalk has already added it to the map of tours.

  12. I am happy to hear this is being worked on as well. This issue started for me around the July 1st and I can do very little on GC. com anymore on my work pc whether I'm at work or just using it over the weekend at home. It has been a real drag to have to log everything from my phone. I can't create logs on caches or trackables nor can I edit logs. I can still do some things like create new logs from drafts and I also can create a new cache page and edit it but I will be very happy if this gets fixed.  I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue.

It's so easy ;) The list simply show the top gold coin earnings. And everyone of your friends does count!

My question was geared towards the friends with 0 points and how those were sorted.  It's pretty basic to see the ones with points are in order by total.  Those with 0 points were originally listed in random order but now appear to be in order by join date.

  14. This is an inquiring minds want to know kind of question. What is the sorting criteria for your crew? When looking at MY crew the people in the top spots are my friends who have found caches this week (or since the inception of the friend league). That makes sense. Now how is the rest of list of my crew determined? I realize it's only a list of 10 of my 12 friends. I get that. But how are they listed here? What's the sorting order after # of coins collected? It's not by date friended, not alpha order, not by date joined, not date last visited. What is it? Also, if more than 10 of your friends are active during the time frame, will you be able to see more than 10 slots?

  15. How do you get to the 'Friend League' other than going to the Blog or the link in this forum? Is it on the friends list? I'm not seeing it.
When using the new dashboard there is a banner on the right side. Or you could just bookmark the link in your browser

OK - thanks for that. I normally don't click anything over there since that is the 'ad' space and I don't want to see ads. I thought that logically it would be accessible from my list of friends.
