  1. Agree with this post.  Can this please be changed back to the original sort order? Or at least give us the option to sort it that way?  Currently it is very confusing to find all the events in your home state because they are all jumbled up.  What IS the current sort order anyway?  Is it based on time?  That is of secondary importance to me.  I would first like an easy way to see the events in order by country/state then look at the event times. Or better yet, why not add the times to this listing and go back to the original sort order which made much more sense. It looks like there is plenty of room to do so.

Okay, colour me confused. I received an email that seemed to indicate that I was already selected ("You're invited to participate", not "You're invited to enter a draw"). There isn't anything in the email indicating that I'm being invited to enter a draw. Instead, it says to click the button to "check your eligibility and submit your request". That sounds like accepting an invitation, not entering a draw. I also haven't seen anything about the Feb 5 - 26 dates. The email says I need to "submit my request" by Feb 26. It seems like whoever wrote the email has made a number of false assumptions, the most significant being that the recipients already know what's going on. The concerns about the builder tool mentioned by kunarion and noncentric also raise red flags.

I think a follow-up email with more detail is warranted, because the email that was sent doesn't seem to say what you intended it to say, and the recipients haven't been provided sufficient information to make an informed decision about whether they want to enter or not.

I wasn't confused.  I was signing up for a chance to be 1 in 250.  Kinda like signing up to get a free trackable.  The message above about the selections only being made through the 26th seems a bit contradictory.  My assumption was they would pick all the participants after the sign up deadline of Feb 26.

Did your e-mail have different wording?

    You're invited to participate!

As part of our ongoing experimentation with Adventure Lab, we are inviting a limited number of experienced geocachers to sign up for a chance to become an Adventure Lab creator. Approximately 250 participants will be selected through a randomized process. If selected, you will receive exclusive access to the Adventure Builder Tool to design an Adventure Lab experience with five locations for the public geocaching community.

Unlike Lab Caches at Geocaching Mega/Giga-Events, these Adventures will remain active for at least six months, or potentially longer, for the community to enjoy. Adventure Lab creators must agree to follow the Adventure Lab guidelines and will need to create the Adventure within 60 days of receiving the credit.

You can read more about the updates on the blog: Geocaching Adventure Lab app FAQ.

    How do I sign up?

Follow the link below to check your eligibility and submit your request by February 26, 2019.

I have a question about personel notes. I save things like how I solved puzzles and such. Now I cannot edit them on PC but can on phone. Is there a known but whith this feature?

Did you try clicking on the existing text within your cache note?  If you don't click on the existing text it doesn't seem to activate the editing.  This seems to have changed more than a few months ago.  I also thought it was broken but you just have to make sure you click on the text already there.

  4. I just downloaded the app yesterday and was also wondering if anyone has used it yet.  Looks pretty cool and I also like the idea of location validation.  However, I'm worried about those old timers who still do not have a smart phone (or limited data) and would normally log the lab caches at home.  Unless I am reading that incorrectly they are going to be left in the dust.

  5. Clarifying:  I won a one year membership.  The same kind of prize the bUTCH46 was trying to redeem. I did not win a free trial.  I used the same link one could use to redeem a free trial but what I redeemed was a one year membership that was a prize at an event.  That has nothing to do with prior PM status.  It just so happens the link says "freetrial" at the end of it but it also accepts redemption codes given as prizes at events where one could win a year of geocaching. The code of the redemption certificate is what matters.  It was for a free year not a free PM trial and the system knew that when I entered it.  If it had been a code for a free PM trial I'm sure it would have been denied.

  6. Just FYI for anyone who has won  a free year membership.  I also won one and it was super easy to redeem.  There was no need to end the recurring payment.

    I used this link: https://www.geocaching.com/freetrial/

Answered the 2 questions, entered the code and clicked redeem.

Within seconds my renewal date on my account was advanced one year and I am now a Premium Member until sometime in 2020.  You might get a message from HQ welcoming you to a free trial but if you check your renewal date before and after you will see it has been updated.

  7. @brendanjw  - Finally!!!  Some wonderful improvements!  I'm going to try working with it again and see how it goes.

Would like to see the placed date for all caches listed in the search.  I just sorted by Placed Date (Old - New) which is great but it would be nice to know at a glance what is the actual placed date without having to actually open the cache page.  Owner name would be nice too.

Looking forward to the next round of improvements.

  8. I was one of the initial recipients of this new search and had stuck with it for a long time, finally reverting back to the 'old' new search about a week ago.  I regularly come back to this thread to see what progress has been made and read other's opinions on the functionality.  Today I switched back to the 'new' new search to view the newest updates.  Long story short, I only see two improvements that I like which are being able to choose to see all premium caches or all basic caches and the ability to filter on GeoTour caches. Other than that, it is still terrible. "Search this area" is the worst.  It expands the radius of caches but only shows a limited number of them based on # of favorite points.  I would like to see all of them. And where is the setting to change the number of caches shown on the map?  I am unable to locate it.

If you haven't noticed, most comments here preferred the 'old' new search as it was practically perfect and don't understand the need for this 'new' new search.  I am tuning out again, reverting back to what works.  Using the 'new' new search gives me a headache and makes searching for geocaches a frustrating experience.

  9. Trying to hang in there with the new search/mapping combo and I see the cache size has been replaced with its name rather than its number so thanks for that.

I'm hoping, as was in the old search, I will be able to go down the list of caches and add them to a list WITHOUT having to click the ellipsis and then selecting add to a list.  It is much easier (IMO) to check a box on the ones I want to add then click Add To List rather then having to click each listing to do it.   I'm sure this has also been mentioned previously but why not have the same listing functionality as before by expanding the list to the right.  I really loved being able to click a column header and sort by last date found/favorites/D/T/date placed/check a box to add to a list.  I really miss these options.  It also would be nice if I could choose how I want the caches to present in that list.  Currently the default is by favorite points but I might prefer by distance from a certain cache I chose or my home location and someone else might prefer by difficulty, etc.  When opening a cache listing from the list I would also like to see the cache owners name.  Currently I have to open the More Info to see that. And an additional 'nice to have' would be: if I gave a cache a favorite point have the heart present as solid blue.

I've also noticed that once I open a cache the search has totally forgotten what my initial criteria was that I started with and I have to start over.  For example; I do a regional search on a state and I click a cache name from the list but do not use the more info button.  When I use the back button next to the filter box (that now contains the GC code of the cache I clicked on in the list) it now sorts by favorites (the default) closest to that cache I just looked at.  I would think most users would want it to go back to the original search criteria they asked for which would be, in this case, a regional search by state name, highest number favorites at top of list.

I'm sure this post sounds whiny but in all seriousness I am trying to work with it and I know it will improve over time.  Additionally I'm sure all these things have been mentioned before by someone else.  Is there a time frame as to when this project might be completed?  Do you have a deadline you're working towards? EOY? Q1 2019? When?

  10. Agree with everything mentioned so far.

I would prefer to be able to sort by D/T.  When filtered to a list of puzzles by a particular CO I would like to start with the easiest D first.  As is, I need to review the speedometer on each cache listed to find the one with the lowest D.  Also want to be able to sort to just those without corrected coords because those are the caches I need to look at and try to solve.  Also would like to sort by last date found and be able to switch between most recent date on top/bottom of list.

Perhaps a grab bar between the list and the map so I can make it wider to see the whole cache name and an arrow to hide it as it is on the "View Map" option under PLAY.

My personal opinion is you should provide the same filtering options as before. Not remove functionality.

P.S.  How can I revert back to the old map?

  11. If caches are still available that were once part of an official Geo-Tour but now are no longer  part of an official Geo-Tour do you still get the souvenir if you complete them all?  Or would you have had to have found all of them  prior to this program going live and souvenirs were awarded retroactively to those that met the criteria?  Therefore, any new completions of the tour, because it is no longer "official", will not get the souvenir.   Anyone have any experience with this?

  12. If you are near Hagerstown, MD there's an event on 8/4 you might be interested in.  Strange though no one has posted a will attend since publication on 6/17.  I know locally if there is an event like this a few dedicated geocachers are on  hand to help out and ask questions of.

If you use the new dashboard there is a calendar of events on the right.  I believe you can set the distance you are willing to travel and each day there is an event happening the calendar block will be red.  It's a great at a glance tool to see what's going on during the month.  Just beware that sometimes it produces no results even though there should be some. :)  I think they are still working out the bugs.

You can also view events from the Community drop down menu.  There is a calendar at the bottom by day. Click the day number to see all the events.

You could also try searching for York County Geocaching Society.  I believe they host events every month

If I start a browser on my mobile and search for a cache then it is displayed in the app. I can normally live with that, although I think it is a small pain in the ***. However if the cache is archived the app refuses to find it. Invalid code is the result. Why can't the caches be displayed in the browser? If I want a cache in the app I can search for it in the app.

So before I read this post I did not have this issue.  I have an iphone running iOS 11.4.1  I also use the Safari browser and have both Cachly and the Groundspeak Geocaching app loaded to my phone.  When I would do as you described the safari browser would open the archived page.  But I had to see for myself what you were talking about and see if I could replicate what you said.  When I used the Safari app to browse GC.com anytime I searched a cache I got a banner across the top asking me to open in the app? I always ignored but today of course like a dummy I clicked that and I got the invalid code result.  Unfortunately I could not figure out a way to make it stop opening in the app other than deleting the app but I have since figured out a work around to do it!  Just type in the GC code directly into the browser and search for it.  The archived cache opened in the browser for me.  Not ideal but at least it works.

FYI: If I long press the cache GC code from the search screen I only get two options shown in the screenshot: Open or Cancel.  Not real helpful as Open goes right to the app.  Not sure if this is iOS version based or what but there is not an option to open in geocaching.com and revert the action of opening in the app.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I did just discover this while fooling around trying to get it back to opening in GC.com:  Using the browser, I navigated to a list of mine with a known archived cache on it.  When I clicked the list of caches it opened the app but then forwarded back to the browser showing me the list of caches.  When I selected an archived cache it opened the page in safari. So maybe the answer for you is to put the archived caches you would like to view on a list and open them that way from the browser.

Another FYI: from e-mails a long press on the cache name will open in the app and a light tap will open the browser.  You will get an 'Invalid code' though if the cache is archived or newly published and the app is not yet up to date.

*****My true answer to this problem though is to just use Cachly.  You can type in any archived GC code and the app will open it.  If it is your cache you can make any kind of log to it that is available on the site.  If you have an iphone I highly recommend getting it and you'll soon find it will be the best $5.00 you've ever spent on Geocaching.*****

  14. Are you using Garmin Express?  If you are, you need to update to the latest version 6.6.   Version 6.5 apparently no longer works.

Open Garmin Express, click the cog wheel located in the upper right hand corner.  From the new window (shown below) select "About" and see what version you are running.  If it is 6.5 click the message below "Check for Updates to Express" and update to the new version.  Once updated I would close the application then proceed as you normally would sending the list to your device using the "Send to Garmin"  choice from the list.

    Wishing you success.

Currently i would be already very happe if a filter for the owned Geocaches would have the following criterias:

    - active Geocaches only

    - hide archived Geocaches

    - Geocaches needing maintenance

I think this would be a great addition.  Add some choices just like on Your Geocaching Logs from the dashboard.

    Do you mean this?  @Slimeworm

I would like to use this feature more often but it doesn't work most of the time.  When it does, it only presents about 5/10 of my 27 friends.  If the name I want to mention isn't in that list there is no way for me to get their name.  If I just type @Twinklekitkat I also can't get it to work but I see it just did in this post.  Go figure.<_<

Hmm...guess I'll have to try it again sometime.

  17. Would you mind providing exactly where you are seeing this?  On the new dashboard I can only find that they are mixed together under the Latest Activity Feed.  If I go to my list of geocaches under my profile it's just geocaches.  If on the dashboard, under the header Geocaches/Logs, I can view all my logs and they are only for Geocaches.  If I want to see my logs for trackables they are under the header Trackables/Trackable Logs.  They are not mixed together.  Being mixed together on the Latest Activity makes perfect sense, to me at least.  It's the latest activity by me (and my friends) on anything that can be logged on the site - will attend, note, trackable drop, found, DNF.  If you don't want to see it just close the window.

Any update on those that logged on the 26th getting the souvenir to show up without hacking their entry?

I thought they would have figured it out by now.  I opened a ticket on Monday never expecting any kind of action until Tuesday but they got back to me that day and requested a link to my find log in order to get the souvenir.  In a few hours it was on my page.  I am disappointed though it isn't dated for the 26th, the actual date of the event.  :(

  19. Perhaps this has been mentioned before but I think it would be a great improvement when deleting a list if the "Are you sure?" message included the name of the list you were deleting.  I hate deleting them because my fear is I'm on the wrong line and will delete the wrong list.  How would I ever get it back?  There is no undo button.  Perhaps a shading of every other line may help ensure you get the right one as well but if that can't be done adding the name of the list to the message would be a great help.

  20. I have an i-phone and was able to do this multiple times yesterday.  I posted a log from a draft on the site then added the picture through the web browser (Safari) on my phone.  Worked as normal for me.  I find this method much easier than sending the pic to my e-mail, saving, then uploading.  No fuss, no muss.

"Boxzilla"?  There are no "views" since May 8th, except for mine just now.  I checked the other two, about the same.  You're not in any of those lists.

I like having the "Recently Viewed Caches" show up on the web site when I "viewed" them in the App.  That's pretty handy.  I guess it doesn't hit the audit log.  I still see no change after your test.

The "audit log" doesn't do a lot for me as a cache owner.  But it has kept me from excessively checking others' cache pages for changes, looking for the latest clues. :cute:

Yes it was Boxilla so good to know it doesn't show up.  I concur with your thoughts on the audit log.

I've noticed this effect. I wondered if this in some cases causes a Visit in the audit log of a PMO cache, but haven't tested that.

That was my concern too.  I'm hoping no.  kunarion, I just viewed your 'newest' premium cache through the app.  Am I in the audit log now?

  23. Agree with what's already been said.  Please change it back!!  Friends list,  found caches list, etc.  Why would any of us want to scroll more????  Wrap text looks horrible on found caches list in the 'Found by User' column to be specific.  One column of friends when there is clearly room for two.  Why make this change?  What was the point?

Everyday there is some new change to this site.  It's hard to keep up.
