  1. I've used DirectRoute v1, MapSend Topo (not Topo 3d) and MapSend Streets & Destinations with a Meridian GPS. For the Meridian line, you can have one or the other loaded. I would create my map regions and write them to disk and then transfer the img files (now they are imi files) to my SD card. From my Meridian, I could select which detailed map to use from the ones on the SD card. I'm not sure how the eXplorist or Triton series work. Maybe someone else could speak about those units. Hope this helps, JetSkier
  2. I own a Magellan CrossoverGPS and it turns on when it gets external power. I don't see anyway of turning that feature off, but there is a setting to auto power off after 10, 20 or 30 minutes of inactivity. I had mine set to Never, but I kind of like it at 20 minutes. Maybe the Maestro has the same settings. My options are found under System->Power. JetSkier
  3. If someone hasn't already contacted you, drop me an email through Geocaching.com (with your email address) and I'll email it to you. It's 3.3mb in size. JetSkier
  4. In Florida $79.99 + $6.00 Shipping + $5.20 Tax = $91.19. And yes, 500mb free on the SD card. The update does NOT give you updated base or topo maps in Outdoor mode, only the Street Nav Maps are updated. JetSkier
  5. I don't think any mapping company out there is going to give "Free" map updates just because you purchased their product. Selling new maps is probably a big part of their total sales. I don't mind buying map updates as long as they are actually up to date! This update seems to be and I'm happy with it. I agree that the UI should be the same between Nav mode and Outdoor mode, but I guess they sell more Nav units than Outdoor units so that's where they placed their resources. I also agree that if you buy a new CrossoverGPS right now or within the last 30 days, you should be eligible for that update for free. I purchased my CrossoverGPS back in October so I don't feel like I've been cheated. JetSkier
  6. You have to go to Products then Maps & Software. It's labelled "New" in the Street Maps section. I agree that it should be in the support section for the CrossoverGPS as well. JetSkier
  7. Fedex just delivered my update right after I posted last. There seems to be about 500mb free on the SD card. The maps for my area are pretty much up-to-date now. There is a slew of new POIs. Restaurants and Gas Stations are all up-to-date now. It installed firmware version 2.14 (which I already had installed) and then it installed version 2.36. They didn't touch the outdoor mode. Mine still reads 1.52 even though the web site has version 1.68 listed. I'm pretty sure I installed that 1.68, but I guess when I re-installed 2.14, it may have re-installed version 1.52 of Outdoor mode. Maybe I'll apply that 1.68 to see if it only installs outdoor.exe. The new maps are NOT read in outdoor mode, it still uses the internal detailed maps. Not a big deal since I only really need detailed maps in Nav mode. I hope this info helps! JetSkier
  8. Oh Crap! I missed that. I just thought, as any normal person would, that the upgrade CD would upgrade the maps INTERNALLY so I could still have my mp3's, photos and waypoint files at the ready. Leave it to Magellan to screw that up! JetSkier
  9. What do you mean by the "new map update"? The Vehicle Nav maps should all be internal and shouldn't use an SD card. At least thats what the Crossover does. The update that I just bought is a CD that should update the internal maps on the unit. My SD card is free for whatever I need it for. JetSkier
  10. I'll let you know how the update works out. As for #2 (topo), I live in Florida so Topo doesn't really do me any good. However, you can have a different region selected in Outdoor mode than you do in Vehicle Nav mode. That means you should be able to keep you topo SD card loaded. When in Vehicle mode, it'll be set for the USA, but when you switch to Outdoor mode, it'll load your Topo from the SD card. JetSkier
  11. I have a CrossoverGPS and I love it! It has it's downfalls, but it has workarounds as well. I just ordered the new Crossover Maps for $79 from Magellan. I'm hoping the CD that I get has newer firmware with some of the downfalls fixed. I would definately recommend the unit. JetSkier
  12. Thanks for the help Embra. I haven't posted to the Yahoo group yet because this isn't my main GPS. I started with a Meridian Marine, then I got the Color as a gift. Last fall I bought the CrossoverGPS and that's what I use as my main GPS. I then use the Marine as a backup. The color was my double backup. You may be wondering why the Marine (in B&W) was my backup over the Color, that's because the Marine was my first GPS and it ran like a charm for two years before I got the color! It's hard to give up on your 1st... JetSkier
  13. Embra, Yup, I've got mine setup in on/off protected mode so I have to hold the pwr key. I've put fresh batteries in and I've also tried booting up into software download mode. Nothing seems to work. I've even tried removing the SD card in case it was causing a boot up failure. JetSkier
  14. I've got a Meridian Color that's doing the same thing. Sometimes it'll turn on, but mostly I'll see the screen backlight come on for a second and then it goes dead. I even attached it to my cigarette lighter adapter in the car and it still won't come on. I've taken it apart and messed with those contacts but still nothing. Any other ideas? JetSkier
  15. This is common with the Magellan CrossoverGPS unit. Other models, including Magellan handhelds, don't stop routing you until you turn it off. I use the CrossoverGPS for geocaching and since I put the 2.14 firmware update on, it mostly lets me get to within 10-20' before it tells me I'm "near my destination". From this point, I usually don't need the GPS to find the cache. Occasionally, I'll re-enter the waypoint to get a new bearing on it. I heard rumors that a firmware update will be coming out in March which will address this issue. JetSkier
  16. I have a crossover and I usually download .loc files and convert them to .upt files using gpsbabel. Then I load the .upt file onto my SD card, via a card reader, and load them in Outdoor mode. If you want to navigate to them you can do one of two things ... 1) Convert them to .wpt file or .gpx, load them in the POI editor that came with the unit. Upload them directly to the unit as Custom POIs. Then you can select them and route to them. 2) The Crossover stores an Address book and a Waypoint book. They are both accessible from either Nav mode or Outdoor mode. To move a Waypoint to the Address book (so you can route to it), you simply need to go into Nav mode, select Enter Address, My Addresses, Address Book, List Waypoint. Find the one you want to route to and select it. Press Save and it's now in the Address book. Back up to the Address Book, select List All, find it and select it. You now have the option to Route to it. It's a little lengthy but if you're only doing a few geocaches at a time, it's not bad. Hope this helps, JetSkier
  17. For outdoor mode, that same .loc file can be converted to a UPT file using gpsbabel. Then you copy the UPT file to your SD card via a card reader. Insert the card in the unit, goto Outdoor mode, Options, Import and select that UPT file. JetSkier
  18. Hey Got GPS, don't worry about the "negativity" coming out of that lightning bolt. I don't own a Colorado, but I do have several Magellan units and I belong to each of those Yahoo groups. The Yahoo group is MUCH easier to view pics, download pdf or firmware or whatever since it's all in one place and you don't have to search for it. It's silly to think that only a geocacher that reads these forums are the only people buying this unit! JetSkier
  19. How do you know there are updates coming in March? I'm happy to hear that since they have finally responded to my requests for some new features in Outdoor mode geared towards geocaching, as well as other outdoor activities. Here's the response that I got:
  20. Well, I re-installed DR 1.0 and was able to get it to run! Not only did I have to shut down all of my applications, but I also had to stop Yahoo Messenger. I remember having to do this once before, but when one of the updates for Messenger came through, I no longer had to shut it down. I guess more recent updates are now causing the problem. JetSkier
  21. John, I only have Mapsend Topo ... the original version. I don't have Topo 3D USA. Mine does not ask for a serial number and creates img files instead of imi. That's the difference. JetSkier
  22. Thanks Embra. I usually have AutoCAD, Outlook Express and MSVC++ Comiler running. When it first started happening, I could shut down these other apps and it would run. Now, it just doesn't run. I boot up fresh and it doesn't run. Topo and S&D run fine, even with all those other apps running. I've since uninstalled it for the disk space, but maybe I'll try again someday... Thanks again. JetSkier
  23. I've got the patch. Drop me an email and I'll send it to you. However, I can no longer run my DirectRoute 1.0 on my XP machine. Not sure if it's all the recent patches for XP or some other software that I have installed. It simply just won't start! JetSkier ... jetskier underbar orl at yahoo dot com
  24. That has happened on my GPS as well. You can try two different things. 1) I read somewhere (in these forums) that if you go to the map display, in outdoor mode, then remove and re-insert the card, it'll reset it's internal cache and your upt files will be visible. 2) Remove the SD card, then try to import waypoints. After the error message, re-insert the card and try again. I put the upt files in the root of the SD card. Not sure if you can put them in a sub-folder or not. JetSkier
  25. I think I read somewhere in these forums that if you go to your map screen (Outdoor mode) and then remove and re-insert the SD card, that will cause the unit to flush it's buffer of that card and re-read it. I've had the same type of problems where it can't see the new file that I added to the SD card. If you're interested, I modifed the GPSBabel code to have the GC # and the Description swap position when writing the UPT file. Email me if you would like this modified version ... jetskier_orl at yahoo Hope that helps, JetSkier
