  1. Hello Dogfort. Well done on creating this, I have just made my first contribution. Regardless of the areas it covers, I wish you sucess with it.......Especially because it plugs our forthcoming bash
  2. You could add finds to the ignore list so they are excluded from future PQs Adding to the ignore list can be done easily now with GSAK I've seen logs by cachers who only log with notes. Here's one Mark Ahaaaah, I definately hadnt thought of that. In fact, I have yet to use the ignore list. I will speak to Maaaster Hoomer and see what he thinks. Thanks.
  3. I’m inclined to agree. I can’t help feeling like a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to a big series though because we have completed some of them! In fact, I think that we were one of the first teams to set what could be deemed as a power trail (long since archived and approx 40 caches). This fact doesn’t mean that I have to like the way things have gone now though. Despite the fact that we have completed a couple of mega trails (3 or 4 years ago), I still feel that there are just too many now and I agree, the maintenance issue is questionable in some cases. If I remember correctly, a few years ago, power trails were not allowed but then the rule was relaxed. Why was that? I know it is controversial but I still feel there should be a mechanism whereby setting caches has a pre-requisite of length of involvement or cache finds. Just recently a cache nearby was archived due to non maintenance. The CO joined on day 1 and found a cache. They set a cache on day 2 and never logged on again. I know there is the age old argument that a newb is just a capable of setting a great cache as an old timer but in reality, how often is this the case? I’ve gone off on a tangent a bit but imo, increasing the minimum distance would at least help with the total amount of caches covering the country.
  4. I had thought about that but when you do a PQ, how do you remember which ones you have found? You could make a personal bookmark list of found caches, logged as notes? To be honest, GC.com isn't built to do what you want it to do, so no work-around is going to be perfect Thats a thought. It seems such a simple thing to be able to just 'turn it off' but perhaps I am in the minority in wanting this feature. Back to the drawing board .
  5. I confess, I would be on Jeremy's side. For us, the novelty has worn off and one of the reasons is the minimum distance. Post - cache, tree - cache, post - cache, tree - cache. Yes, I know that some caches are in lovely places and on lovely walks but I now feel there are just too many caches out there. It is getting harder and harder to sort the wheat from the chaff.
  6. I had thought about that but when you do a PQ, how do you remember which ones you have found?
  7. Does anyone know, is there a way of turning it off but still log caches?
  8. Can anyone tell me why the minimum distance between caches is 0.1 mile? Is it due to ease of grid reference or something? Just wondering if there was a case (or indeed, is it possible) for the minimum distance to be increased, or is everyone happy with 0.1 mile?
  9. I like that. No, actually, I like that a lot.
  10. I don't think it was on the COs property. If you have read the cache details and the clue then you would realise this. I shal be watching this cache as it is very local to me. Put it another way then. If the CO has had permission for this cache and the Land/wall owner is content to have the wall 'damaged', so be it . I still think that (possible) quicker answers to your questions would be to email the CO but I hope watching it proves to tell you what you need to know. Edited to add.. Ive just had another look at the whole page and there is no evidence to suggest that this cache is or isn't on the CO's property/land. You would have to have visited the cache site to understand the situation. Then you would see the wall, the vertical holes, and the so called 'green'. If you can, view it through Google earth and zoom in. You can just make out the metal seat. If you compair the cache page map and GE you will then see that the cache icon on the page is to the NW on as I said on someone's drive. Which is paved. This could be the COs residence but there is nowhere to hide a cache of the description ie: 35mm film case. The cache details tell that it is in one of the vertical holes. ( Cut off fence posts). Just remember that this is just another cache and I only wanted to point out as the title of this thread. Am now wearing hessian vest .

  12. May be the cache is on the CO's property? I do hope so because the clue mentions that the cache is in a wall and one of the DNF's mentions fresh damage to it . Perhaps you could try emailing the CO to ask them to check this cache out?
  13. Would you prefer the phrase budgie smugglers? Jon Tut, tut, tut. With your Budgie Smugglers and Mandy's metal knickers, this forum is a bad influence on the likes of me. I'm a good girl me, I dont smoke, misbehave, drink wine or nutt'n . Marty has a good point. Reading the cache page would be one way of filtering out the true 5/5's from the questionable ones. An obvious and simple way around the problem. Anyone who is serious about seeking out these particular caches will almost certainly do that before they embark anyway. Wont they?
  14. Oooooooh.......Speedo's. How am I supposed to work now?
  15. I have come across several series where the bonus cache has been rated as a 5/5, simply because you have to complete the others in the series to be able to find it. May be some further guidance is needed or some kind of 'pop-up' when you try to give a cache a rating of 5/5? The game has morphed so much over the years and (some) caches have become more ingenious and inventive. Perhaps it is time to redefine the ratings structure?
  16. Not my Geolympix. Just The Geolympix I haven't paid it the attention that perhaps I should. I mistakenly thought you had organised it all. Urbandude23, I guess if you can make the event meet with all the guidelines, you could have some interest. Good luck if you proceed. Now, lets have a better look at this Geolympammybob....
  17. Oh yeah, sorry Paul, I forgot about your Geolympix.
  18. Sounds a bit like a mega event but with a twist. I like the idea in principal though and would possibly attend if it wasn't too far away.
  19. Charlie has had 3 or 4 Ticks in the past few years. Horrible creatures but easy enough to remove with a Tick puller. The human complement of Thehoomer has so far, been Tick free. The nettles thing is an easy one for me, I just wade through them. When I start trying to tread carefully, that's when they usually get me. Those huge wood ants are one of my pet hates. Stand still for more than a few seconds and you are instantly on their menu. The main downside of the summer months, is being able to carry enough water for the 3 of us. We tried Charlie with Panniers but he....errr......disagreed with our proposal .
  20. Went caching yesterday(quite infrequent these days)and actually enjoyed walking ankle deep in the dreaded gloop for most of the day. We have been kicking up dust on the trail for a couple of years now and the mud was well......kind of a novelty. My memory is probably clouded but I'm sure we used to have the boot cleaning saga after every trip when we first started. This is probably my favourite time of year for the game. Its not too hot/cold, the trees aren't in full leaf and the insects haven't arrived yet.
  21. Thanks very much. I just figured, 'some' publicity was better than none .
  22. Just a quicky. Our 2nd event cache was published 3 days ago. How do we go about getting it onto the GAGB events Calendar please?
  23. Just read the full story.....very funny! Me too. It took me about an hour but it was worth it. About half way through, I actually found myself feeling sorry for Joe and had to give myself a short, sharp reality check . The questions on the form at the end are very very funny.
  24. To be honest, I would rather the police be over cautious than lame & disinterested. It is unfortunate but inevitable that a few people will get embroiled or upset in this process. The police can’t get it right every time....none of us can.
  25. Excellent post. This highlights the fact that signpost caches have their place in the game, as do cachers of ALL shapes and sizes.
