  1. Okay, thanks for the responses. I've logged my find on the appropriate website. But . . . isn't there a way to depict the find on my profile? Others' profiles have different country flags depicted as geocoin finds. How do I do that?
  2. I found a gold, Canada geocoin in a cache yesterday. It has a number imprinted on the back, so I thought I would be able to track it via that number. Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Someone please walk me through the steps of how to enter it as a trackable on my profile? I tried doing a search for "geocoin" under the Travel Bug tab...but there are thousands of pages...and I don't know what this one is called. I've seen other cachers, with coin insignias/country flags, etc. listed on their profile page, indicating that they had found those specific coins. So, I know it's possible. I just don't know how. I appreciate any help that the more experienced cachers can pass on to me. Thanks in advance, Holly "NCGeoDiva" Greensboro, NC
  3. I just discovered Geocaching, too! My husband's parents got him a GPS for Christmas - - and as he was searching the Internet for software, he stumbled on geocaching.com We did our first cache on New Year's Eve and have been frighteningly addicted ever since. LOL As of today (1/25/06), I have completed 73 caches. I've got a fever...and the only prescription...is more caching!!!
  4. I'm new to this, but in my opinion, signature items have no intrinsic value. Unless you're collecting other people's signature items, they're just something that would be of interest to the cache owner ( to see who has come by, etc.) I consider leaving signature items as a bonus. Something you'd leave without taking something else. If you're going to trade, trade something of value in addition to leaving your calling card. That way, a few months down the road, someone doesn't have to open up a cache full of business cards and get disappointed. Now, if you were going to leave a PAIR of cufflinks, for example, that might be different. Someone might actually be able to use those. But, one... Not too many one-armed men who like to wear formal clothes rummaging around in the woods, eh?
  5. I completely agree. I think that leaving things like old golfballs is not only inappropriate, it's rude. The person that put together the cache didn't look around on the ground and fill the box with whatever they could gather from the trash around them. The took the time (and expense) to put something in the cache that would be nice to find. I think that "McCrap" takes away from the sport. Kids' toys have their place (for family geo-excursions, etc.) But, wouldn't it be nice to open up a cache and find something that grown-ups are actually interested in once in a while? Okay, off my soap box... Short answer to your question... In my opinion, leave something you'd like to find. I've gotten great deals at the dollar store on DVD's, CD's, batteries, and decks of cards. I've also been known to leave jewelry or hair accessories (the diva in me). It's not that I'm spending more money than others...just being more choosy in my purchases. Trade up, Trade Even, or Don't Trade At All.
