  1. The New Hampshire 234 Challenge (GC36PAC) A small and exclusive club of NH's finest and a well earned achievement I might add. I'm not sure I'm up to the task or how to go about it. I'd like to learn more before I strike out blindly on my own, so how about a leg up ? How did you Plan ? What did you learn ? What would you do differently ? Can I borrow 50 bux for gas ?? KT
  2. heh, heh, heh.... That's Thea, she never fails to bring a smile to my face ! Here's a link to another funny rascal:
  3. Thanks for the theory link and clarification of said link... looks like fine winter reading ! Special thanks to Doug, Walt & Min for their advise also. I'll keep working at this and see if I can zero in better as to what is happening when and why and report back. In the meantime, here is an interesting link for you other Garmin Montana users: http://garminmontanagpsr.wikispaces.com/Common+Issues?responseToken=09cfdf7f9734dc91c894d35ad3a6d700f KT
  4. Well, I'll bet most of you guys know about the following site, but maybe it will help another new Montana Owner with questions: http://garminmontanagpsr.wikispaces.com/Common+Issues?responseToken=09cfdf7f9734dc91c894d35ad3a6d700f My issue is spelled out pretty clearly in #7 although for me the problem occurs while walking, not driving. "Navigating (Track Up) while mounted in the automotive cradle, Montana reports direction of travel correctly, but when stopped the unit seems to have trouble maintaining correct bearing, and the map screen will rotate in random directions until travel resumes." Sounds like one of those things I have to live with for now.... Thanks to all who responded !
  5. I hear ya. I am firmly in the Garmin camp and always seem to want more ! Thanks for the reply. // KT
  6. Also.... What is happening, especially while I am standing still trying to figure my next move is that my little blue triangle dances and hunts the screen like a beagle sniffing for a hare. Lets say I am navigating to a cache and it appears on my screen that my prize is 90 degrees to my left, no wait behind me at 7 o'clock, no just up ahead, oooh no, out further at 2 o'clock, nope here to my left..... ggggrrrrr.....
  7. Thanks Min, yeah I'd rather have the compass on myself. I'll put it through another calibration gyration, something I've been doing a lot lately but seemingly to little avail. KT
  8. Oh yeahhhh..... an everyday occurrence. Sometimes 2 or 3 ! Good place to start though, thanks for checking in. KT
  9. Hi Doug, thanks for the come back. I'll play with the tracking settings you mentioned and see if things improve. Maybe I flummoxed a setting to change things along the way (?) but I remember a more steady and precise heading a while back and less frustration. Any and all ideas are welcomed. KT PS: Should I not be in "track up" mode ? Seems like I want to see what's coming up...
  10. Would you make a few suggestions or point me toward a recent relevant thread for better options ? Thanks ! KT
  11. Ahhaaa ! This sounds promising ! I like the theory. Thanks for checking in Del. In fact it does happen while walking and maybe I notice it more when I am standing still, checking out the map or making a couple steps this way or that. Funny, I disgruntedly commented to myself yesterday while driving how solid the map was ! I'll grab my manual and see what kind of settings there are to play around with on the Montana 600. This is encouraging ! Thanks again ! KT
  12. Anyone else seem to think their machine is acting more "unstable" as of late ? I am still finding the booty alright, but while getting to where I am going my location on the map seems to be bouncing all over the place. When I first started a couple years ago with my Montana everything on the screen seemed so much more "steady". now the screen dances around constantly. Is this cause for concern ? Any ideas ? Thanks KT
  13. Anyone share my pain ? When navigating to a cache using the map screen, my map will occasionally flip 180 degrees showing "North" for instance in the opposite direction I am traveling. I know instinctively or by the sun the machine is wrong, flip the screen to compensate and my unit immediately flips again to the wrong orientation. Do that enough times, it settles down and accepts my correction for a bit only to do it again way too soon. I can't blame to software update as this was happening before, actually I had hoped the fix would have been built in.... Any suggestions ? Thanks. KT
