  1. I couldn't figure out how this could happen since your TBs haven't been released and -- if you'll excuse me for saying so -- there's no good reasons for anyone to be looking at your profile to see if you posted any TB pictures. So I poked around and was astonished to discover that geocaching.com conveniently posts every single TB picture, allowing people to scan for anyone making the same mistake you did. Mystery solved! And apparently, judging from your logs, many people do just that. I always assumed accidentally posting a TB code would be a minor problem, quickly remedied, but, no, it turns out that your mistake was broadcast to the entire geocaching world! And, by the way, I notice that it wasn't just people in Germany. I have no idea why anyone would do that, but as Gitchee-Gummee says, now you've learned the lesson. NOW GO DELETE THE PICTURES! (Although the worst damage is done: the gallery only shows the last 1000 pictures, so yours fell off the list a couple weeks ago. Although now people will find your pictures through your post here.) I edited the photos (deleted them) and now I need to erase each individual log entry, right? There isn't a "delete all logs" tool is there? Thanks for the help!
  2. I made the unfortunate error of posting my 4 travel bugs with their ID's showing, and was inundated by "logged" finds form mostly Germany. Short of junking these 4 TB's, what can I do to start fresh again. so they have no log, no finds, etc? Is there any kind or recourse available for starting a TB out anew? I don't want a strike against me for TB abuse or whatever!! Thanks and a valuable lesson learned! WoodGlue
  3. Of course I won't ignore what you said! I appreciate the guidance! I haven't released the TB's yet, so I need to go back and do what you suggested and I will. WoodGlue
  4. Looks like I need to re-read everything I can get my hands on about prepping (and placing) a cache, trackables, etc. I don't want to run afoul of any rules or community standards! Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate your help! WoodGlue
  5. I made a huge mistake, right? WoodGlue
  6. Hi Andy, The items that I have them attached to are collectible. Perhaps I marked them incorrectly? I appreciate your guidance in this whole issue, as I'm new to Geocaching and admittedly don't understand some of the finer points! WoodGlue
  7. Thanks Andy! I appreciate your answer, expounding on the whys etc!! WoodGlue
  8. I've got 4 more new travel bugs. I want to know if I have to give each one a unique name or what exactly? What have you done in the past? Thanks, WoodGlue
  9. I kinda thought so, but didn't want to make a mistake! Thanks for your help! WoodGlue
  10. What is usually put down for "contact"? Should I put my email address there? Thanks, WoodGlue
  11. Probably. What GPS do you use? Garmin Dakota 20
  12. Is it possible to create a waypoint without actually being at the physical location? Thanks, WoodGlue
  13. Is there a thread or a section of this forum where people post or make available the contents of their caches? I seem to recall seeing a thread where people had posted photos of recently found caches and the contents of their personal caches. I'm trying to get more ideas on swag and containers, etc Thank you, WoodGlue
  14. Garmin cHirp I bought the Garmin cHirp to program and put in there. Any feelings on this? Is the Garmin cHirp frowned upon because it's a way to send out clues to another Garmin user, thus maybe speeding up the finding of the cache? I'm not too concerned that anyone won't be willing to trade up to a $5.95 item. It is just a cool game after all and it is the thrill of the hunt that really matters the most when all is said and done. I may only ever have 1 cache, but it will be a fun and a nice cache.with any luck. I was thinking about a theme too, but have kinda decided against it because I want to have an array of goodies (from a paracord bracelet to a pack of sealed Topps Baseball cards, etc) I may do a Disneyland cache, eventually because those planted seem so popular and look like they're fun to do. Thanks you guys. I do appreciate the feedback and tips and things to consider. WoodGlue
  15. Yes, unactivated swag "bugs" LOL I thought maybe I should leave 2 to start with. Of course, I'll also include several "activated" dog tags in hopes that they make it to the UK or some far flung place someday! The container that I'll most likely be using is this one: http://shop.geocachi...-w-logbook.html I'm anxious to find out what kinds of goodies that people treasure and like, etc. Thanks, WoodGlue
  16. I'm getting ready to start collecting stuff to put into my first geocache. I want a "knockout" collection of items. What are some of the best items that you've ever seen in a geocache or what do you wish to find in a cache? And how many travel bug dog tags should I include in my first cache? Thanks in advance for your help, suggestions and ideas! WoodGlue
  17. Hi, I'm having trouble downloading a POI.gpx file onto my Dakota 20. They all show up as waypoints and not under POI. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, WoodGlue
  18. Another question. Did any of you download GPSGate software? I updated my new Garmin using GarminExpress, but am really uncertain about downloading GPSGate. Thanks, WoodGlue
  19. I'd like to submit a compatibility problem. I'm using I.E. 11.0.9600.16746 I was unable to add a new GPS device in My Profile unless I added Geocaching.com to the "Compatibility View Settings" under the IE Tool menu. Not a true bug per se; just a compatibility problem. WoodGlue Internet Explorer 11
  20. I ended up buying the Garmin Dakota 20 with City Navigator SD card for $206.00 which I think was a pretty good deal. I don't think I've either under-bought or over-bought. The idea that I can trade info with other Gamin units also appealed to me. Thanks for all your help, WoodGlue
  21. Hello, I'm new here and new to geocaching. I'd like to spend around $200.00 for a new GPS and I'm having trouble deciding which model to buy. As far as I can tell, it will be a tossup between the Garmin eTrex 20 and the Garmin Dakota 20. The problem I always have when buying a new gadget (of any kind) is "underbuying" or trying to "cheap out" LOL and I don't want to make this mistake with a new GPS. My price limit isn't $200.00, however I'm not looking to buy a Mercedes Benz when a Honda will get me there safely. If you had around $200.00 to spend and had to buy one or the other, which model would you choose and why? If you can make a case for a more expensive GPS, I'm willing to be swayed. Thanks for your help and advice. Happy New Year too! WoodGlue
