  1. Hello all, I bought my geo-sweetie a DeLorme PN-60w for Christmas and it's been very frustrating. After thinking I'd finally gotten everything figured out (TOPO 9, GSAK, getting the device to connect to the computer and getting PQ's to load to the device), I thought I was finally set. Nope. All of a sudden, the device decides it doesn't want to 'route' anything, anywhere, anytime! Previously, I was able to manually program in coordinates (Mystery caches) and navigate to the waypoint. Now, it won't route to a manually entered waypoint or a geocache from a PQ. I'm not certain, but I believe the trouble started when I tried to use the device to route to a geocache that I'd imported as part of the first PQ I loaded. I think the device firmware version is 3.3.665680?? Also, when after that string of numbers it reads "/ OFF" (I added the quotes.) And finally, I switched my GPX setting to 1.0.1 as was suggested on a DeLorme tech support thread. Help? Anyone? Anyone?
  2. I bought my 60csx off e-bay (brand new) for $200 about 6 months ago. I think the advice on pricing is sound.
  3. Thanks Brad. As you can see by my number of posts, I'm as new to this forum as I am to geocaching! I'll try to match my future posts closer to the category they belong in.
  4. Thanks, Zop! It's cool that you saw this and have experience with this unit! I actually downloaded GSAK about a month ago. It is clunky. And the learning curve is pretty steep. Janet asked me about it and I was all "Don't ask me about this for another six months!" Haha. Yeah, there's a lot to learn. Hey, would you and Julie feel like coming over for a spaghetti dinner sometime on a weekend? BTW - I'm sorry... what is your first name again? We BOTH apologize for that. Mike
  5. The receiver on the 60CSx is awesome! There is one drawback though. It is not paperless so you'll still want to carry your Android. I used my 60CSx for about 3 years and still love it! Although I've upgraded to the Oregon 400, 550 and now the 62s. There is a great GSAK Macro for the 60CSx that will allow you to create a POI database which can help with the paperless aspect but it's clunky and can get annoying. If you don't already have it, I really have to recommend picking up GSAK and using that to manage your database, especially when you gt into puzzle caching. It's well worth the $30. You create databases based on PQ's you download from geocaching.com and manipulate, filter, edit etc.. in GSAK before sending to the 60CSx (or just about any of the modern GPS's) Feel free to drop me a note from my profile if you have more questions. We're going to be around all weekend.
  6. Ithink I uploaded all the drivers, since I installed the 'Trip and Waypoint Manager" CD that came with the GPSer. Correct?
  7. Hey all, I've got a new GPSmap 60SCx, anyone have links to help tutorials as to how to use this with Geocaching.com? On the literature it shows a Geocaching icon. Do I need to download the software to it? I'm under the impression this is a good one and I'd like to get max use out of it. Any suggestions appreciated
  8. Thanks again for the responses. I think I might have been the first one to 'find' this, as there was nothing previously logged. I'm attaching some pics and also, hopefully, the link to my log on GC. Link to my GC post (hopefully): http://www.geocaching.com/mark/log.aspx?LUID=cd7fa603-653a-4cf4-aba5-6f6376845144&IID=706bcd5f-1c34-4691-b4d7-d4ef81ecb236
  9. Thank you all so VERY much for your responses! I'm not sure why I didn't get a notification of your responses, since I am 'watching' this topic. I figured I would have gotten an e-mail or something. Another fellow Coastie saw my post and sent me a direct e-mail. That's the only reason I knew you all responded! Thank you all for the warm welcome. This sounds like a very cool community. Looking forward to finding more benchmarks! I'll post pics and do my GC log after I have dinner. In Reno this weekend for some R&R.
  10. Ok, I'm still under 400 geocaches, so I'm still a newbie. I found a benchmark and took pictures but forgot to write down the coordinates. I'm not even sure how to look this thing up online, either here or at NGS. I don't even understand the stamping. It appears to read "VERDES", there's an arrow and it reads "NO 1". It was at the top of San Pedro Hill (zip code 90731) in the LA area. It can only be found by someone with affiliation to state or federal agencies with the clearance and a key to get through a locked gate. Not sure how to proceed... Can I only post pictures if they are online? Or can I post them from my hard drive? Thanks for any help Oh, and it's definitely NGS. I planned on posting the pics with this post, but it appears the pics need to come from an http:/ address.
