  1. Forget that...I found a way (simply create a 'whereyougo' file on internal storage). I'm all good now, thank you
  2. Nope, it's a no-go with this app too. Downloading the cartridge I'm getting a message 'logging in failed'. I can't see anywhere in the phone directory to be able to copy the file over via PC.
  3. I didn't even think to check for an app - duh - thank you!
  4. I'm sure I managed (after a lot of effort) to get it working on my tablet about a year or two ago when abroad, although I really struggled to get the cartridge I downloaded to work like it was supposed to and gave up. Here there are very few Wherigo caches but one popped up close to home and it'd be perfect for this August souvenir event...but I'm stuck! I use my mobile phone (Motorola Moto G), or at a push I could try using my tablet... But I don't understand how I install this program and the cartridge. Am I missing something obvious? Can you help?
  5. AHHA! Perfect, I love you Thank you
  6. Any chance of Geocaching.com allowing us to have shorter/better profile urls? So mine is http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=3cd64db0-429b-4a3c-b9b7-d6b80b0b47f9 but it would be really awesome if it could be http://www.geocaching.com/profile/bloodheart - much easier to add an url on signature items or for easy user look-up.
  7. Well, this person has had my coin since February so I guess I should send this user a message - any more advice on how to approach them?
  8. Say someone has your coin and has had it for a while - how long is too long? If they've had your coin for a while without moving it on what is the best way to approach them about moving it on?
  9. I wish I could get a GPS device - I assume a dedicated GPS device would be more reliable than my mobile phone (are they?). I think I'm at least looking for a cheap portable charger when I next have some money. I've not used pocket queries, not sure I know how...
  10. My phone wasn't top of the line when it was bought 3 years ago, so now it's getting on a bit the battery life isn't as great, but I can't afford to replace it right now so it has to do. When geocaching it acts as my GPS, map, loads cache details, camera, internet for research on puzzles or to keep people informed about where I am, and as an MP3 player. With all these uses the phone battery drains within a few hours - yesterday I was only out a mere 3-4 hours, so not many caches found and missing out on some great photos. Fortunately as I don't go too far afield at worst this just means having to cut my trip short and doing without music on my way home, at least I don't have to worry about being in the middle of no where lost without a phone(!), but it's frustrating! Is there any other way to conserve battery life? Or is there a cheap means of charging my phone when I'm out and about? Any other cachers out there that use mobile phones for caching and can offer some advice? It's probably a long short, but I thought it was worth asking anyway
  11. Perhaps take up orienteering to learn some useful skills. Thank you for the suggestion, I already have orienteering skills...but orienteering still typically requires a map. A simple application to show maps offline is all I need.
  12. Hey guys, I use c:geo android app on my phone for geocaching, which works great, but the maps don't save for offline use...so I'll occasionally end-up somewhere nothing but a blue arrow and green cache marker on my screen...and no idea how to get to GZ. What could I use to make sure I have maps when offline?

  14. I'll have to remember this - I have been thinking of doing a reverse cache like this, it wouldn't be any good at my location but would be good 5000+ miles away where my fiancé lives (and where I'll live)...it's just the sort of cache he'd enjoy doing
  15. Anyone able to post links to the first geocache they placed - doesn't matter how simple or complex they were. I'm looking to place my first cache, but for the sake of easing into it gently (also because the local area is fairly well saturated, especially as an urban area) my first cache is going to be very simple - I feel a little intimidated by the more advanced caches locally. Just looking for an idea of what peoples first caches were like
  16. Thank you TriciaG, that's actually perfect
  17. I'm looking at placing my first geocache in a public park in the city near where I live, other local geocachers have done the work to establish contacts with the local council, but I don't know what to write in the email to the contact (yes, only via email) to obtain permission to place a cache. Any thoughts?
  18. Alas, that's not the one I'm thinking. The one I'm thinking is an old bunker that you reach going down a ladder in a shaft, I suspect it's around Sunderland, Gateshead or even Durham.
  19. Hey guys and gals, just a quick post to see if folks can suggest underground geocaches in England. Underground = old shelters, trainlines, etc. Bonus: I'm sure there's one in the North East but can't find it, anyone know which one I'm thinking of?
  20. I found it! *blush* As soon as I hit enter on this post I decided to check the back of the sofa (I had checked bags, suitcases, geocaching bags, geocaching box, etc.) on the off-chance and there it was *phew* - but I guess it's still worth asking what happens if you do lose someone's geocoin just in case it ever happens again.
  21. I think I've lost someone's geocoin The geocoins mission was to visit restaurants and I had the absolutely perfect place in mind near where my partner lives (5500 miles away), but once I got there I couldn't find the geocoin - I figured I'd left the geocoin at home, but two weeks later now I'm back I can't find it. I'm SURE that the geocoin is here at home, that I've put it somewhere to keep it safe and now I can't remember where it is...obviously I'm hoping to find it, but if not what do I do? How long do I wait hoping to find it? Do you just report it lost or contact the owner and offer to replace? What is the etiquette here? I should also point out that the geocoin owner is German so there may be some communication difficulties.
  22. For example I sometimes cache with my boyfriend, instead of individual logs (often stating that we found with each other) it'd be nice if there was an option for one of us to log for us both - perhaps have a list of 'friends' you can choose to temporarily bind with, so if you were working in a team of X cachers you can have one dedicated logger out of the team. I'd just like something to show when I am out caching with others.
  23. I'm hoping to place my first cache at some point soon, I have a cache container set-up and now it's just down to identifying the best spot and gaining permission (okay, so it's a long way to go yet) - but it's a simple cache, and I feel a little intimidated by others, although I've seen some poor caches there are many locally with a lot of work put into puzzles and information on locations history. I'm not in contact with the locals either, and the location I'm looking at for the cache had problems with vandalism with previous caches so none have been placed near there for a while...I have faith it'll work. Any words of encouragement?
  24. My local authority is listed in GAGB database, the instructions are to contact the manager of the area where I want to place the cache - this is fine, however what do you say in the email/letter? Do they need any details of the cache prior to placing? I'm not 100% sure where the cache is going to be placed, and I don't want to do too much to figure out a location until I know it's okay to place the cache, but I wonder if this is not a backwards way of doing things in this situation. I'm also a little concerned at the lack of caches at this location - one near, two long-archived caches in the area - given as this is a major park in the city centre it seems a bit strange for a prime location to be left without any caches placed...I'm on the local caching forum but don't want to give the game away on where the new cache will be so can't ask about the location.
  25. Okay, it's just normally when a situation such as this occurs it's not worded in this way. Unfortunately by the time I got to the cache the container was there but the cache itself was not, had to report my coin as missing
