  1. Since many apps have been thrown out here in this thread, which app were you referring to?
  2. It really depends on what application you are using for geocaching. Each one has its own way of entering manual waypoints. I use Locus Pro (though Locus Free was very serviceable). Its a simple matter of adding a point to the database with the proper coords. And unlike many other GC apps, it also serves as a street navigation system. So, for those puzzles that require you to travel to the final coordinate, you can navigate the streets right from Locus and get out and head to the final spot using the standard GC tools like radar and compass and bearing/distance tools.
  3. Eplace? Here are pics of the one I got:
  4. Here are pictures of one of the ones I bought:
  5. You can also use BBC markup if you do NOT check that HTML box. [b ][/b ] for bold, [i ][/i ] for italic and so on. For an easy way to edit your listing, copy the text you have, open a new window and go to one of the forums and use either the quick reply or the full editor to edit the text for the listing. You then can use all the nice buttons up top for bolding and other formatting options. If you use the full editor, you can even preview it. When you are done, do NOT post your message, instead, simply copy all the text from it and paste it back in your cache description. To be honest, I don't know why they don't offer a BBC editor on the cache edit/add screens.
  6. I don't carry my debit card around. Never have. I am a cash sorta guy. There was nobody home and even later as the kids got home, wouldn't have helped, they do not know the combo to the safe where I keep it (have guns locked away there). Nobody is going to drop these rare wolf coins unactivated in a cache. As much as I want one, if I find one in a cache, I wont be a coin thief. I don't play like that. I ordered 2 of the sparkle ones but favored the monotone one better and it looked like a glow (moon) but I missed it. Just the way it goes.
  7. Not very serious effort at all. It, of course depends on the image, but using PS's content aware brushes it could take as little as a half a minute to remove a corner to corner watermark.
  8. Sorting like this is a Premium Member feature. Really? I can't find any mention of it on either Benefits of Premium Membership or Groundspeak Membership Comparison. If so, then I stand corrected. Yes it is! http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=175 9. Columns on Search cache pages are sortable. Clicking the Favorites Icon for example, will rank the caches listed by Favorite points.
  9. Except for the fact I didn't have my credit card at work when it was released. I had an errand to run after work and then soccer practice with the GD. So, by the time I got to the point I could put a CC into my paypal account, it was gone. In 5 years, I have never needed a CC in my paypal account. Its always been fine with just the bank account link. Until I tried to buy something from geoswag which refused to allow me to checkout unless I put one in (requiring both CC and bank account link). Just plain stupid. I have used paypal to purchase from many vendors on and off ebay and never had a problem. That is my gripe, not that the coin sold out. That happens. Had it not required a CC in my paypal I would have had both coins.
  10. Just a couple of Generic answers here.. ...because the hiding "muse" has struck them and they have a great idea. ...because they live in a rural area where there are not anywhere close to 10 of many of the types and never will be if nobody hides one ...because some of us are just more 'hiders' than we are finders Rofl! WIN, fail, WIN. 2 and 1 1. I do have the muse 2. I am in an urban area and it does have plenty of multi and puzzle caches. 3. I have SOOO many ideas for hides! Baby steps..traditional caches first I just haven't done any multi/puzzles myself but after some interesting conversation with a old hat at the game, I got some ideas. FYI, I may not even get to it this year as I am in the research and planning stage. But I have some interesting places to go, just gotta work them together into a uniform plan with a reasonable goal. I will do some first, trust me. I need to know how far to push the devious nature of them. Also..Some of the things I want to do require internet access to find some info on clues (no registering, just googling and looking up info found remotely). Is this acceptable or is it a no-no? Lastly, and I assume this will turn it into a multi-cache, what if I put a book of sheets with questions that lead you to the final cache in the initial cache. Each visitor takes a sheet (yea, I know I need to replenish them). Is this acceptable?
  11. That is an option for everyone. QR codes are there to AUGMENT not REPLACE existing methods, at least that is how I would implement them in my caches. Human readable numbers. Human signable paper logs. Human typeable URLS to logs. None of that changes. QR codes ADD to those options not take away from them.
  12. Here you go http://www.facebook.com/android.geocaching Honest, try NeonGeo as well if you like the GS offical app as NeonGeo is very similar but with better maps. There is a demo (try before you buy). You may like it better or worse than c:geo but at least you will know and costs nothing to give it a go.
  13. Nice coin. Wish I could have gotten one of each. This will be the only time I ever order anything from geoswag. By the time I got a CC into my paypal account (which geoswag required and I have not had to have in my paypal account for more than 5 years) and got it verified, one of the two coins were not available. What a totally unfriendly checkout process. Never again, no matter what coin they have.
  14. Take it one step further and change the URL to : http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?wid=b011faaf-dbce-4a36-b1e1-2eaa1a15d456&c=123456 That will bring you to the logging page with the tracking code filled in. Obviously this is not the correct tracking code for this TB, so it won't work if you try to use it. I tried substituting ID for WID, and I can't get it to accept the tracking code. If the TB is meant for discover only, you can append "&LogType=48" to that URL. That is exactly how my QR codes will be formed, right to the log page. The example I made went to the TB page and not the log page. I didn't want to post the link in case someone actually used it. It was simply an example of how easy a QR can be made and used. Its called a BOOKMARK in your browser. Scan the QR. It opens the log page. Bookmark it. Put your phone in your pocket and move on. Later when you have time to deal with it, return to the bookmark logs and write your nice lengthy logs. Honestly, I am more interested in them for geocoins and TBs than actual cache logs. They make more sense there than for logging a cache but I don't discount that use either. I can't tell you how many caches I have been to that listed TB/GC in inventory only to find a penciled in log entry that was a week in the past but not on the site saying someone removed the TB/GC. Will QR codes fix that? No. They will help as its a quick scan and log as retrieved. They WILL make some geocacher's lives easier. There is NO downside to putting them on tracables. None.
  15. The thing is, though, that you'd have to be really careful to have all the edges line up nearly perfectly for the scanner to read it. If a couple of pieces are slightly mis-aligned, it might not be able to read it. I'm not so sure the kids will be careful enough, especially considering the pieces have curved edges. No, YOU would actually assemble it. Let the kids figure out where the pieces go. They are good at that. Plus it involves them directly in the find
  16. I am pretty sure that both Mac and PC come with free paint apps. But as Huntleigh suggests, scissors and kids for the win
  17. With a premium membership you can create a pocket query to do this. You can also set up notifications to be sent via text message or email as new caches are published. Also, with a premium membership, you can sort searches by the placed column header (and thus, the newest are at the top).
  18. Wow, you folks are good. I haven't done all the legwork as yet, still in the planning stage. Now that I have a few guidelines to go by I can make better use of the surroundings (not limited by the .1 rule).
  19. I was thinking about making an interesting cache out of one of my next caches. List of waypoints to locations or perhaps questions to answer that give locations to visit. At those locations some form of information is available to solve the main cache location.? The final coordinates can't be found without visiting the locations to gather info. So, is this a Multi-Cache or Unknown Cache (puzzle isn't a choice in the list). And.. Can the waypoints/locations be within the .1mi radius of other real caches?
  20. Since I don't want a youtube account, I guess I am out. Alternate methods of entering?
  21. Here is a snippit I posted in another thread: Scan this (yes, right from your computer monitor). It will take you directly to: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2820991 BTW, that QR code got generated in less than a minute of my time, most of which was finding the TB url again to paste into the generator web site at http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ (one of dozens of free sites to generate QR codes).
  22. Wish Granted: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=QR+Code+Reader&c=apps There are 10 pages to choose from. Properly coded, the QR will have the link directly to this website to the tracking log page. All smart phones come with a web browser, thats all you need (other than the code reader). 1. Start Bar Code Scanner (example and one I use) 2. Scan QR (Opens web browser automatically) 3. Log it as if you had typed in the url yourself. Easy. No "special" app needed. Best of all? ZERO cost. You do NOT need another specialty app installed. You do NOT need any custom programming done. You CAN use the scanner for many other things, not just geocaching! TY about the laminator tip, will google it and see about finding one locally. I am assuming office max/depot will likely have them.
  23. You folks are great! Some really good feedback here. I feel better about asking the reviewer now. Thanks everyone.
