  1. I am preparing a mystery cache. In order for the cacher to find it they will have to find three other caches. I am planning on placing these caches in the list as Traditional Caches, as each will have it's own log sheetand it's own entry on geocaching.com. However on the back of each log sheet will be one of three parts of the answer to a "riddle" that will be asked in the mystery cache. I believe that these should be listed as four separate caches. I have been told by a fellow cacher that I presented it to that it should be placed as a multi-cache but I disagree. However, I have no experience with placing either a mystery cache or a multi cache and would appreciate any feed-back.
  2. No...this will not be a multi.cache and archiving will not be necessary. The reference to the waypoint will be put in as a mention to anybody interested in that. Otherwise it will be the final destination for the person who's only interested in it as a geocache.
  3. As soon as I move the geocache, the description will be edited accordingly, including, new location, the removal of the benchmark photos and an https://(etc.) of the waymark's web-page, along with a quick mention for interested geocachers...Thank you
  4. The geocache has been tampered with. I could put it in a less conspicuous place for the cachers (to avoid unwanted it "accidentally" being found) and put a note in the description suggesting they look for the waypoint?
  5. The waymark has been created...however I just posted it yesterday and am waiting for it to be published. You can see it as "http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM10K8Q_Gideons_View".
  6. The cache I referred to as having inaccurate bearings (that would put in the middle of a road shoulder) is actually a couple hundred feet away...down a road and on the other side. Both caches are maintained completely by visitors (I put the containers and logs that are currently there) and more and more of his listings are having to be archived. These two listings will soon be along a bicycle path and I was thinking of putting up a set of caches along that path. It will be a few miles long, and could include these two.
  7. If I enter a geocache under geocaching.com and also post the location under Waymarking.com can I invite geocaching visitors to also visit that location on Waymarking.com in the geocaching.com description?
  8. A Geocacher put a lot of caches in our area about nine years ago and then disappeeared. Needless to say, many of the still functional caches are either given inaccurate locations or are barely maintained by their visitors. There are some that I would like to care fore but it would be easiest if I could take them on myself. Like I said: the geocacher disappeared. I can't contact him through geocaching so it is not possible to do this through him...is there any other way?
  9. Nothing wrong with the responses except that they were becoming redundant. I learned a lot from the answers. A little sarcasm never hurt. My male box was being overrun and some of the answers I was getting had nothing to do with the original question.
  10. Please terminate this forum. My questions have been answered so I want to quit getting in my email. Thank you
  11. I started a forum a couple of days ago. There has been some helpful advise and I have a better idea of how a part of geocaching works. However it seems that the forum has gone on too long to be productive and that some other forums are spilling into it. If a forum has "outlived" its usefulness can it be terminated?
  12. Okay...the two NA's have been changed to one DNF. I'll watch the status and may check for it again.
  13. OCD? I doubt it, or I would have to be strapped down due to the condition of a percentage of the caches in my area. I just like the location and if you are from around the area you would probably know why. The person that put it there doesn't care about it any more. Okay...so it sounds anal, but I would like full maintenance done on the cache and it is being ignored.
  14. Looking from another angle...using the current coordinates and considering that this would be the best time of the year to find the cache...would it be legitimate to (as thoroughly as possible) search the area and if the cache can't be found to replace it with another one that would fit all the aspects of its description, using the same name etc.?
  15. An earlier finder can't find Bug Chaser. That's what started this whole thing. I'm not completely referring to my own inability to find it as a reason to archive it. If that was the case most of the NF's would be listed as NA's. Plus if you look through his caches the majority of his caches have already been archived.
  16. If only I could prove that the cache was NOT there...lol. You can prove something exists but you can't prove that it doesn't.
  17. I realize that being a reviewer is not simple and some responsibility comes with it. My issue is with the fact that everybody's hands are tied and there seems to be no way to get around the fact that a geocacher left a lot of geocaches around and due to the fact that he cannot be contacted they can't be adopted or archived and replaced. It seems there should be something that could be done.
  18. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clearer. My problem had nothing to do with looking for caches. I was bothered by the fact that caches can't be archived and replaced. The caches that I think should be archived are not only missing, but were placed by a person that has left the area and in the end left caches unattended. Some are missing and some are in high need of maintenance. He should have archived them when he moved and could do so today if he could be contacted. As far as placing caches I am going to quit for now and watch his to see what the logs are saying. I have been caching for over two years but am not naive enough to believe that I could replace all of them. I will continue to LOOK for caches.
  19. I realize that there is work involved in getting a cache archived. I have looked for it twice (extensively) at a time that there should be no brush to hide it and could not locate it. SaidCache found it earlier so he would have had some idea where it was and what he was looking for. The two caches prior to his were DNF's which takes it back to last summer. There were two finds before that. Who knows? If the cache could be archived it could be replaced and there would be a cache. But yes, I understand that there are things you have to go by. I think I'll just take a break this summer and maybe something will eventually come of this.
  20. Under the circumstances I wonder how long a cache has to be a DNF before it is archived. It is too bad that the situation is crippled by this type of judgement and I will not bother to waste my time with hiding caches any more.
  21. RE the previous log: SaidCache and I are the only two people that are trying to get decent caching into the area. The whole purpose of his requests to archive these caches was that the individual that had placed them had left the state and could not be contacted so adoption was no option and the large portion of the caches were were being damaged or were disappearing. As is the case with Bug Chaser they could be replaced the way we would like to have them if they could be archived. I fail to see why that would be such a problem. The problem should be addressed as one problem and not as many. If there is going to be no response then the whole idea of setting up an area where Geocaching could be enjoyable then I guess I'll carry the activity elsewhere.
  22. And does will the reviewer tell me why he decides against a posting. It seems that if "GeoCaching" follows its rules to the extent that a non-existent cache cannot be resolved that they are shooting themselves in the foot. However, I have been told that the decision can be questioned, which would lead me to believe that I should be informed of the decision or that it should at least be logged.
  23. The first Needs to be Cached log was placed six months ago. I have entered a new NTBC log tonight. If I haven't received some response in the next week or two I will probably just place a new cache in the area )I can't adopt it because the owner can't be contacted) and let the system work itself out. The worst that can happen is that it will raise a red flag and the problem can be addressed.
  24. Thank you. I don't know how a reviewer finds a Needs to be Archived log. It seemed it would save him some trouble if I communicated with him directly. Thanks again
