  1. Break 2000 Complete the local 100x of three different types challenge Do one of the Nevada ET Hwy GeoArt series Convince another cacher to take over ownership of next of the World Series Puzzle series :-)
  2. Because I don't want to limit the overall caching experience. Sometimes the Web Page for the cache, especially with puzzles, can be the best part of the experience and that's OK. Other times, it's a fun unique hide in a beautiful spot that takes you of the beaten path. Hopefully you get both! Hiding a cache is an opportunity to be creative and design a fun experience. Why limit yourself to something that would be only fully view-able on a GPSR?
  3. How to i include links when messaging directly from the Message Center? The option doesn't seem to be there and when I cut and past links formatted in word, the text reverts to the formatted text (http.....).Do I have to message through a different option (i.e. email)? Thanks, GG
  4. Here is another version of this twist...
  5. My recent World Series puzzle Cache has a lock. To get the combination you need to replace the "fallen" pennant flags in their proper order corresponding to standings at the end of the 1989 season.
  6. Thanks Leprechauns! This is exactly what I was looking for. GG
  7. I am wondering if there is a way to quickly find challenge caches I qualify for. I am familiar with plugging the cache into the project GC Challenge Checker but is there a way to screen several caches at a time, say within a certain distance? Thx GG
  8. Wondering how to quickly find out how many logs have been posted for one of my caches? Thx GG
  9. Thanks. I would imagine that this could be enabled at least for phones using login, passcode functionality.
  10. I appreciate the need to support multiple display devices in your cache description. Is there a way to access you unpublished caches with phones or download to gps?
  11. Thanks. I am thinking just one GIF with some artwork above. I played around with uploading GIFs to the page. Interestingly they animated just fine when the address was a link to a GIF on this forum but did not when I uploaded the same GIF and referenced either of it's addresses after the upload. For example the first address (taken from this forum) animates on the page but not the second (GIF taken from the forum, saved on my PC and uploaded to the page images). Note that the second address is not the address you get in the image editor but the one you get after clicking on it. The GIF animates fine after I copied it to my PC. I am thinking that the page eliminates the animation if uploaded but doesn't impact the animation if it is linking to somewhere else? The address of the second one (uploaded) inlcuded=s /gs-geo-images in the address. Thanks
  12. I am designing a puzzle cache/page that will incorporate an earthquake related theme. The idea is that when you open up the cache page in the description area you would see a drawing of a billboard with text on it. Above the text picture a video of announcers getting ready to call a ball game would start. It would appear you were watching on a CRT style TV. After a few seconds the video cuts out as they say "we are having and earthquake". At this point the drawing of the billboard starts to shake and eventually breaks apart in to pieces. You would then click on the pile of rubble which would send you to a page (on line jigsaw puzzle page) where you would reassemble the pieces to read the text you need to solve the puzzle. Irrespective of the question of whether I should make such a page, I am wondering whether it is technically possible given the constraints with the site. I have done a bit or research on the board as to GIFs (they work) and embedded video (a no no it seems). I have already done the link to the jigsaw puzzle page bit so that that works. The collapsing billboard could be a GIF with a single run and an embedded link? The TV broadcast could be a GIF as well but what about the video? Also, can the active elements be incorporated into fixed drawings (e.g. cityscape)? I am still playing around with variations like you see the TV through an apartment window. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! GG
  13. Guidelines say counties or the local equivalent. I assume that your local reviewer knows the regional geographic equivalent (aka Shire, Parish, Borough,) etc. BTW - got a good friend in Melbourne. Spent a month enjoying down under in the early 90's. Plan on heading back next April. Looking forward to it. Cheers GG
  14. Is a county the smallest geographic region that can be used for a Challenge Cache? I am planning a Cache based on the tour of a famous band. To log it you would need to find a cache in each of the cities that the band performed in. However, the guidelines seem to suggest that a county is the smallest geographic designation that can be used. Though not ideal, not a problem per se, though there is one location in Virginia that is not in a county - a so called "Independent City". Curious how that would be handled if counties are indeed the smallest geographic region allowed. Thanks, GG
  15. Sounds like fun. Post the cache link when it gets published.
  16. Mystery Caches that are basically Wikipedia searches and the answers are no longer correct since the CO hasn't bothered to keep on top of the web page changes.
  17. Is there a way to let other folks view unpublished Caches? Ready to publish a mystery cache and would like to have someone beta test it to make sure all the links work etc. Thanks, GG
  18. I am fine tuning the look of a Cache Page and trying to Learn HTML at the same time. Needless to say this means lots of page edits as I test out each change. I assume that you can edit an unpublished page as many times as you want (without sending to the reviewer) but wanted to make sure this doesn't cause any problems. Thx GG
  19. Named after the Good Wizard from Bored of the Rings. A "discredited Rosicrucian," "32nd Degree Mason," and "Honorary Shriner" seemed an appropriate description.
  20. Longest Slump 2448 consecutive days without a find from 11/27/2009 to 08/10/2016. Stopped after the kids lost interest and moved on to other stuff. Picked it up again last year to add some interest to my usual waking/hiking routine.
  21. Not exactly sure what a gadget is in this context but I found a cache a while ago that had a small etch-a-sketch inside. You had to follow instructions to spell out the combo to a lock that accessed the log. Is that in line with what you are thinking? Thanks, GG
