  1. Evening all,

Being a newbie - I have a quick question regarding Geocoins, if activated and placed in a cache, do they generally get passed around from one cache to the next and well tracked?

Or do they have a habit of disappearing off the face of the planet ?

    Regards

  2. The following maybe of interest:

    http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalW...tyType=document

Clothing would be sujected to 12% importation duty, Oddly baseball caps 2.7% both plus 17.5% vat, shame the about the carriage (not subjected to VAT, I reckon).

So 29 tee's after excise, tax & carriage was taken into consideration, would have an approx landed cost £11.05 each.......

May as well go and buy them on ebay for what little saving you'd make. :)

  3. Hi All,

I thought I'd add my pennies worth to the thread, Hobbycache.com are pretty easy to deal with, prices are favourable and to top it all off - for those eBayer's amongst us, they'll accept paypal.

For orders below $75, the carriage works out at just over £8.00 to the UK, so I guess it may well be worthwhile if several of you want to club together and place an order - Customs charges might be an issue mind you, especially if the orders of high value.

Teeshirts work out at approx £7.66 (based on current exchange rate of £1 = $1.76), however Paypals exchange rate is always slightly out of sync.

    Food for thought...

    Cheers

  4. Moote's GPS Visualizer was very interesting and useful - Worth me asking the question just to discover this.

Having spent most of the evening looking for Mac software, I'm now fairly sure that I'm not going to better Mac SimpleGPS. The way it hooks up the geocaching.com etc is all very impressive - It's miles ahead of the rest (Mac stuff anyway)....

Many thanks to everyone for the help.

    Cheers

  5. Hi All,

I'm a poor deprived Apple Mac user running OS X Tiger, currently I'm using Mac SimpleGPS to download waypoints to my etrex without issue's.

Does anyone know of anything else I can use, not that I have a problem with Mac SimpleGPS, I was curious to discover if there was anything better out there?

I looked at GPSy but didn't get very far with that...

In fact I'm interested in any geocaching software full stop for Apple Mac.

    Cheers

  6. Hmmm,

Worrying stuff Moote... I had a quick look at you're profile.......

As a result, I felt strangly compelled to check my Nerd Score:

    Aghhh 71%

29% scored higher (more nerdy), and

    71% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Mid-Level Nerd. Wow, it takes a lot of hard nerdy practice to reach this level.

That's it, I'm off to take up power boat racing or something.......................................

Only joking, but I wonder how many others will now take the test B)B)<_<B)B)B)

  7. Wow,

I'm amazed how a simple question could lead to all this, don't get me wrong, I'm finding it all very interesting - Being a newbie to geochaching and to some extent web forum sites, I'm amazed by the wealth of information being exchanged and the level of interest shown to my original question.

In hintsight, maybe I should have asked which postcode district has the least number of caches ? <_<

I suspect I'll have an answer to that question quite soon....

    Cheers

  8. Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience of connecting a Palm Tungsten E2 to a Garmin etrex, I'm running Cashemate on my Tunsten. It would be pretty cool if I could download waypoints to my etrex straight from the Palm.

Any suggestions where I can obtain a suitable cable?

    Regards

    Mark

  9. Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice regards my new etrex for use within the UK, I guess I'm looking for confirmation of which settings others are using within the UK - I had real trouble locating my first cache this afternoon, 200 - 300 mtrs out...

    Current settings:

    Position Format: hddd mm.mmm

    Map Datum: ord srvy GB

    Units: Statute

    North Ref: Mag

    Variance: 0004 W

    Angle: Degrees

I've heard that using the WGS 84 datum within the UK isn't very accurate, is this true - How do my settings sound?

    Many thanks

    Mark
