  1. One on ebay ending this evening, just search under geocaching - Item number: 140011803228. Cheers Mark
  2. Oh yes you can... Admittedly it's a USB-RS232 convertor with an etrex connector Hmmm, neat solution, shame about the price
  3. Hi, I've since been asked by a few others regarding USB eTrex cables, I should point out that the solution wasn't for one usb eTrex cable, but rather a cheap eTrex serial cable and usb to serial converter from two different eBay sellers (not me). Combined cost of which was less than £20. Cheers Mark :-)
  4. Cachemate without doubt the only and probably best piece of geocaching software for Palm worth having. With regards to which model - Whats the budget? Secondhand or new? If new, then go for an Tungsten E2 (colour) approx £140 (cheapest), avoid the Zire models at all costs, as in my opinion the screen is just too small to be useful. Palm E2's still fetch decent money on ebay, so much so that you'd be better off buy one new (at least you'll get 12 months warranty). Secondhand, well the choice is endless via ebay. I just managed to purchase a mint Palm Vx (monochrome screen) this afternoon for £14.00 complete - which was a real steal. If your not fussed about colour screen and all the bells and whistles - Buy a Palm Vx, good memory and small. With regards to Sony models, I'm currently using a Clie N770C/U - My personal experiences with Sony made Palm devices, is that the colour screens have a dull muddy, washed out look about them. You won't go far wrong with either a Vx or an Tungsten E series. Cheers Mark
  5. Hi, As far as I'm able to establish, Destinator software uses CSV files to generate POI's, you can export CSV's from within GSAK via the export function. If you take a look at www.pocketgps.co.uk and click on the yellow speed camera, it'll take you to a page for downloading free speed camera overlays for TOM TOM etc. Interestingly dig around this site, they suggest you use CSV files on Destinator V3 devices. Now whether your supposed to just drag CSV file to the device, or whether your device came supplied with software to convert CSV files I can't answer, as pocketgps doesn't make this clear. I'm a Tom Tom user, so can't advise exactly without seeing the unit, my guess is that on the installation disk that came with the device, will either be a program to sort it all out for you, or at least instructions. Cheers Mark
  6. I'm off to do some proper research before I ever post another comment again. Good bye........
  7. Hmmm, I might have got the wrong Hound Tor
  8. Well, although I now live in exile up in Preston, Lancs - I'm originally from Bovey Tracey in Devon. Although new to geocaching, I've spent a lot of time on Dartmoor - I still travel to Devon on a monthly basis to see the family, in fact I'm going down in a couple of weeks time, my personal choice whilst down, are for the following: All of the Ten Tors Series. along with Dartmoor Myths & Legends Series. In addition I'd go and do the virtual at Hound Tor (GCG4CR), mainly because out of all the tors, this one's my personal favorite. I reckon the above would keep you busy most of the week, whilst giving you a chance to explore some of the best areas of Dartmoor. But as Pete mentions in his cache descriptions, especially for the Ten Tors Series: "as always with Dartmoor, take care & make sure you are properly equipped for walking on the moor". Regards Mark
  9. Fugawi UK Digital Maps™ Version 2
  10. I have an Apple Mac and a copy of MacGPS Pro, most raster maps in the following formats will work with MacGPS Pro: GeoTIFF, TIFF (TIF), JPEG (JPG), GIF, PNG, PICT, BMP, Photoshop (PSD), SGI, TGA, PDF in OS X, and for Nautical Charts - NOS and BSB 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The MacGPS Pro website mentions that Fugawi maps could possibly be used by MacGPS Pro, but it's all a little fague. Does anyone know what file format Fugawi maps are in? Am I correct in thinking the Fugawi maps are ".JPR" formats (a Fugawi calibration format), I was wondering if any Fugawi users could confirm this for me? If it's true I think I've found a possible solution to one my problems, as MacGPS Pro will read & auto-calibrate these files. Regards Mark
  11. Route 66 is also available for Apple Mac......
  12. You really shouldn't have made reference to the HarryKrishna discussion thread, I was reading the comments and happened to come across this..... http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....dc-99c45925303b Here's an entry on one of his cache logs: "I packed up and was ready to leave when I was joined by a Burlington police officer who gave me a citation. Apparently I wasn't discrete enough this time and someone spotted me and called them. I have a mandatory court appearance at 8:30am on Wednesday the 17th at the Burlington Municipal Court nearby. I plan to plead 'Not Guilty' to the charge 'made an open and obscene exposure of his person to another, knowing that the conduct was likely to cause reasonable alarm.' I'll start a thread in the Northwest Forums to post the law and my defense and to keep everyone up on the details. Wish me luck." Takes all sorts I guess
  13. Let me know if you find anything, I understand Garmin are to release OS X compatable software in the near future, including Mapsource towards the end of 2006 - Fingers crossed See: http://www.garmin.com/pressroom/corporate/011006.html Regards Mark
  14. Hi Moote, Thankfully I also have a Windows based laptop & Pocket PC (works) as well as my Mac, I reckon I hold out for Memory Map on you're advice. Thanks for the help Cheers Mark
  15. So which is better, Memory Map or Fugawi? I'm thinking about Fugawi, as I understand I can download the maps on to my Palm. Whats the general consensus? Cheers Mark
  16. Hi, I presume you have the installation CD's for Tom Tom and installed it via the PC, or did you copy someone's SD card ? If so, then it may explain the reason why nothings running, the maps etc are installed onto the SD card, but essential parts of Tom Tom navigator program are installed on the PDA's internal memory during installation, rather than the SD card - this may explain why nothings working. If you have the disks, have you installed the main Tom Tom application, rather than just a map? If possible, give me a little more information regarding how you're installing Tom Tom and I try my best to help. Cheers Mark
  17. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has or used a Garmin Forerunner 301 or similar Forerunner? I've recently started running (since I stopped cycling a few years ago, the lbs have piled on) The idea of the Forerunner 301 with heart rate monitor is quite appealing, however can it be used for geocaching? - Or am I better off sticking with my eTrex and trying to persuade the other half I really need an Forerunner just for my running. It'll be an easier sell if I can use the Forerunner for both
  18. Hi Keith, You're friend with the Sony will probably take offence if you only offer him £30, but in honesty that's about the going rate, I certainly wouldn't pay much more for it. One's currently for sale on ebay with a day to go, at £9.99 - Two others have sold within the last couple of weeks both fetching around £33 plus postage. As regards to Palm software, thats simple: Cachemate is a must have for any Palm owning geocacher. I've downloaded a PQ with 500 caches local to me and I'm finding it easlier and cheaper than generating masses paper, plus if I decide to take a quick detour out and about during my working day, I always have the cache information to hand - Excellent..... http://www.smittyware.com/palm/cachemate/ http://www.palmsource.com/interests/geocaching/#2 (scroll to bottom of Palmsoft page for links and further information on Palm OS programs) Personally I biased, generally I've always found the Palm OS to be a lot more user friendly than Pocket PC, if all you wish to use it for is as a contact & datebook manager, then it's hard to beat. Masses of software available for it, and generally the Sony machines had a very good reputation, excellent screen and good build quality. I currently use a Sony Clie PEG-N770C/U which is a slightly higher spec machine that the T625, I paid £33 off eBay and in honesty its very useable for both geocaching and managing my day to day business appointment and contacts. Regards Mark
  19. In the absence of any other suggestions, I'd suggest uninstalling it, rebooting and reinstalling GSAK to see if that resolves the problem... Cheers Mark
  20. If anyone's interested, please see my User Profile for further information regarding my plans, you'll find both the coin and my future planned TB's listed, photographs to follow later - Many thanks to all who have dropped in and left comments. Regards Mark
  21. No worries, I've decided, it's going out into the wild soon......
  22. So be it, Everest Geocoin Travel Bug has been born, he'll be released into the Lake District in the near future, needless to say the Geocoin will defaced (probably engraved with maporter), drilled and fitted with a travel bug. That way hopefully it'll remain in circulation giving as many people who wish to, the chance to bag the Everest Geocoin icon on their User Stat's, rather than vanish into someone's personal collection. As to regard the logging issue - log both I guess, afterall it both a trackable Geocoin and a travel bug Different I guess....
  23. In a mad moment, I purchased an Mount Everest seven summits geocoin off of eBay the other night. I was toying with the idea of letting it loose in a new cache I'm planning in the near future, hence the reason for my question. Needless to say I'd be pretty miffed if it disapeared within the first week, never to be seen again...
